Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 206: Emerald Island
Chapter 206: Emerald Island
Emerald Island.
After an hour on the boat, Iris could see a vast island with huge hills and green trees almost covering the entire island.
She could also spot a few white buildings on the island. What amazed her was that the island was surrounded by white sand and emerald-colored water.
"Justin, is this why it is called Emerald Island, because of the sea color?" Iris asked Justin, standing beside her, waiting for the officer to help them dock the boat.
"Yes, that’s because of the water around the island. This place is wonderful, but too bad we rarely come here," Justin answered her in a barely audible voice. "You know the reason, right?"
Iris nodded. She understood that the island guard would be suspicious if they didn’t age.
She heard from Xavier that they rarely employed humans because of this matter. Humans would be wary of them. They could erase human memories, but if they did it too often, there might be side effects. That’s why Xavier chose to rotate his visits to his properties on this earth just in case — not to arouse suspicion.
Justin continued speaking when he noticed her not uttering a single word, "On this island, we usually stay in a restricted area. The guard and his family can’t visit without permission. They will only appear if we summon them to come..."
"I see. So the building in that area is the restrictive one?" Iris pointed to a few white buildings she had spotted earlier.
"Yes. You will stay at the main building, Lord Xavier’s place." He pointed at the big building on the hill. "That place is restricted. Even Paul can’t go to clean that place. Lord Xavier has a vampire maid who will clean that place occasionally."
Iris was stunned hearing how restricted that place was. ’Did Xavier already arrive there?’ she narrowed her eyes, looking at the beautiful cabin, but too bad. Her vision was not sharp like Justin and the others.
After failing to see inside the cabin, she glances at Justin again, "How about Eric?"
"He will reside in the building near the woods, over there..." Justin pointed to a far-end white house. "The house is near the place where Paul and his family stay."
"Justin, thank you for arranging everything for Eric..." Iris sincerely said. She felt warm because although Justin and the others didn’t know Eric, they still helped him settle here.
"Don’t say thanks to me, Iris." Justin laughed while scratching his hair. "It was Lord Xavier who arranged everything for Eric. I merely called Paul, the island guard, to prepare everything, including taking care of his meals. So Eric could enjoy his life here..."
Iris nods. Now, she wants to meet him and express her gratitude.
...
"Iris, you didn’t change your appearance?" Justin was curious because this girl hadn’t used any disguises since they were at the airport.
She frowned before responding to him, "Didn’t I already tell you?" When she saw him shake his head, she continued. "I didn’t need to do that again because Xavier gave me this pendant," she showed the pendant hidden under her clothes. "This pendant has magic; it will not show my real face but other people’s perception."
"Wow! I’ve never heard something like that before." Justin felt amazed. However, suddenly, something crossed his mind, "But I still see you the same, Iris!?"
"That’s because I allowed you to see my real face." She laughed slightly when she saw him narrow his eyes.
"Are you serious?" he asked suspiciously, afraid Iris was lying to him. "Did your hair color light brown and long flow down your back!?"
Iris was surprised because her hair had already turned ash-gray like her hair from her previous life. Why does he still see the young Iris’s hair!?
"Did this pendant not work?" She said while observing the pendant.
"Why?" Justin asked.
"My hair color has changed. You are supposed to see it because I allow you to see my real appearance. But why you can’t—" her voice trailed off when Xavier’s face flashed through her eyes.
’Gosh! Xavier, did you also make Justin not see my real appearance?’ She was utterly speechless.
"Really!? Damn!! It must be Lord Xavier who hid that from me," Justin couldn’t help but feel annoyed.
"Hahaha, no worries, I will talk to him," Iris said, feeling amused, looking at how annoyed Justin was now.
...
Before long,
They finally got off the boat, and a white-haired man with tan skin approached them with a big smile. He is Paul, the island guard.
"Sir Justin, welcome to the island. I’m so happy to see you again..." Paul greeted Justin politely but was stunned when he spotted the beautiful woman standing not far from Justin. Mesmerized by her beauty, her skin glows, and she has gorgeous dark, long wavy hair.
"Sir, this lady?" Paul swiftly gazed at Justin.
"She is Lord Xavier’s wife, Lady Iris..." Justin answered him while turning her gaze at Iris. He tells her that the older man is Paul, the Island guard.
Paul was shocked when he knew the woman’s identity. He immediately bows to greet her, "My Lady, please accept my greeting. I’m Paul, the guard of this island. Please let me know if you need anything during your stay here, Milady."
"Thank you, Paul..." Iris answered while trying to act normal.
For some reason, Iris wasn’t used to being greeted by Xavier’s people like this. Moreover, now that Eric was beside her, she felt awkward after seeing Eric’s sour expression.
Iris silently sighed deeply before saying, "Paul, I need your help to take care of my brother, Eric. He will stay on this island from now on..." she said.
"Milady, don’t worry. I will take care of Sir Eric..." Paul said. He already got a word from Justin about Eric. But he didn’t know if Eric was Lady Iris’s brother.
"Thank you," Iris feels grateful now that Eric could settle on this island until she found the person behind their miserable life.
