Chapter 202: My Husband

Chapter 202: My Husband

After making their new plans, Eric started to suspect something.

’When did Iris get a rich friend? Why didn’t I know about it?’ Countless questions filled Eric’s mind.

He knows Iris so well. She’s not the type of person who has friends outside their Guild. Even within the Guild, she only sticks to a few people. She’s pretty introverted.

But now, she claims this vast, fancy mansion belongs to her friend.

Eric couldn’t shake off his suspicions.

’Did she really know a rich person, or did she buy this place without telling me?’ He narrowed his eyes, looking at her. Unable to contain it any longer, he finally asks, "Iris... Can I ask you something?"

"Hmm," she nods.

"—You said this is your friend’s house?" Eric looks at her curiously.

Iris knew Eric would ask about this eventually. She had no plans to hide her relationship with Xavier.

"Brother Eric, I want you to meet someone, the house owner," Iris said.

"Really? Let’s go..." Eric was excited to meet that person.

"Wait, bro... you should change your clothes." Iris stopped him, noticing he was still in his pajamas. Eric halted, looking puzzled.

"The wardrobe over there has some clothes for you. Pick something. I’ll wait in the living room," Iris said, quickly leaving the room, grateful she’d already prepared a few outfits for him.

"Iris, wait," Eric shouted before Iris opened the door. She turned back to look at him. "Did you keep my cell phone!?" he asked.

Eric wanted to check the news online about what happened to his Guild. It’s tough for him to believe Iris’s words. How could his powerful assassin guild disappear in just one night?

He wouldn’t believe it unless he saw the news for himself.

"No, I didn’t. Well, brother... I found you almost dead. I didn’t have time to look for your things..." Her face darkened as she remembered how terrible his condition was when she saw him a few days ago.

"Ah, sorry, I was just asking."

"I’ll get you new phones, but I suggest you avoid anything linked to your old identity. I’ll arrange for a new identity for you."

"Sounds good, sister," he said, letting Iris leave the room.

When Iris left Eric’s room, her eyes immediately landed on Xavier, who stood at the end of the corridor with his back facing her. He gazed out through the large window at the corridor’s end.

Iris walked toward him, thinking of surprising him, but Xavier turned to her before she could.

She could only offer a smile.

Already aware of her plan, Xavier gently took her hand and softly asked, "Have you finished talking to him?"

Iris gave him a sharp look in response, making him confused.

"Why’s my darling looking at me like that?" Xavier playfully said, holding her chin with his fingers, tilting her face slightly upward.

"Oh... did you miss me that much? Is that why you’re giving me that narrowed gaze?" He moved his head closer, bringing their faces nearer.

Iris, taken aback, pulled her head away, fearing he might kiss her again. "Y-You heard our conversation, and you’re still asking!?" she smiled at him as she saw him smirk.

"So, should I change my clothes now? I should look presentable to meet your brother, right!?" Xavier was excited when he heard Iris wanted to introduce him to Eric.

Iris was a bit surprised by his question.

"Why do you want to look neat for Eric!?" she asked, puzzled. "Ugh, well... all your clothes look the same to me. Unless you get a new color, it won’t make much difference..." She said casually.

Iris thought Xavier would abandon the idea, but she was wrong. His following words left her speechless.

"Should I go shopping now? I could be back in just two... five minutes..." Xavier said with a deadpan expression.

Hearing Xavier’s words and seeing his expression, Iris began to doubt whether he was serious or simply joking.

She recalled his reluctance when she had asked him to wear a colorful outfit for their date at Silver River. Eventually, he had agreed, thanks to a compromise they’d made.

"Xavier, there’s no need to change. You look handsome in whatever clothes you wear..." Iris said sincerely. Anything he wore looked the same to her—handsome and perfect.

A proud smile lit up his face at her compliment.

"But why are you trying to impress him with your appearance?" Iris asked, looking jealous.

Xavier didn’t immediately respond but drew her into his arms. He leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "Because you consider Eric like your own family. This is my first time meeting your family, and I want to make a good impression."

Iris stifled a laugh at his explanation. "You don’t need to do that. Trust me, Eric will like you..." She said,

"Huh!? Why?" His eyebrow slightly arched, surprised by her words.

"Because he owes you. I know him well. He’ll repay whatever you’ve done for him," she softly explained.

This was one thing Iris admired about Eric; despite his involvement in dirty business involving killing for money, he had a soft heart. He cared deeply for those around him, never breaking promises and repaying the kindness shown to him.

To some, Eric might seem harsh on the outside, but in reality, at least to her, he was kind and gentle.

...

Not long after they settled in the living room, Eric arrived, accompanied by one of the servants.

Iris smiled as she noticed how shocked Eric appeared when he saw Xavier sitting beside her.

"Brother, come join us," Iris urged when she noticed Eric hesitating, looking at Xavier as though he were frozen in place.

Once Eric sat across from them, Iris began the introductions. "Brother Eric, this is Xavier Darkwood. He owns this house, and he is also my husband..."

Eric jumped as if struck by lightning upon hearing Iris’ words.

"H-Husband? This man is your husband?" Eric asked, finding it hard to believe. "S-Since when did you get married? W-Why have I never seen him before?"
