Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 149: Finally Awake
Chapter 149: Finally Awake
The sensation of punishment weighed heavily on Justin as he was exiled from Darkwood Villa. And this beautiful place now felt like a miserable hell.
Justin’s mind was spinning non-stop, filled with worry for Iris’ well-being. He longed to call Niles to ask, but such a connection was strictly prohibited.
Xavier’s decree had left Justin unable to contact anyone within the villa until permission was granted.
It felt like Justin would be happier if he were sent straight to the Fire Room rather than being ignored like this. Furthermore, he had known Iris for so long that he genuinely worried for her.
This punishment is truly torturous!
"Sigh!" He took another deep breath while casting his gaze on the scenery outside.
"Milord, please give me a chance. I promise you... I will take care of Lady Iris. If you give me a second chance, I won’t disappoint you this time." Justin could only talk to himself even though he knew Xavier wouldn’t hear him.
"Are you sure you will protect her?"
Suddenly, Niles’ voice came from behind, making Justin jump. He immediately turned his head and saw Niles walking towards him with a cold smile radiating from his eyes.
Justin gasped, looking at Niles, now standing beside him. While Niles completely ignored Justin, his eyes were fixed on the scenery outside, paying no attention to him.
"N-Niles, why did you come here—" Justin paused, feeling he had asked the wrong question. A grin appeared on his shocked face before he continued. "Ugh, I mean, will Lord Xavier allow me to return?" he asked curiously.
After a while, he turned to Justin, who was still looking at him, and said, "A lot happened at Darkwood Villa, and Lord called you back home..."
"Huh!? What do you mean, Niles?" Justin raised his eyebrows in confusion. "Did something happen to Lady Iris?" his voice sounded trembling, frightened that the little girl would be harmed.
Niles shook his head.
"No, she is fine. But, we might move to another city or country in a few weeks."
"Move? This fast? Why?"
Niles explained everything to Justin about why they should move and told him to help erase all traces of Iris after her incident.
"I see. Alright, what are you waiting for? Let’s go—" Justin exclaimed. As long as he could go back home and be forgiven by his lord, it was enough for him.

Darkwood Villa.
The sky slowly turned dark as the sun dipped below the horizon. Xavier was still sitting where he had been since morning, with his eyes never leaving Iris on the bed.
There was no emotion on his face. However, a few moments later, his expression slowly changed, and a small smile emerged from the corner of his lips. He stood up from his seat and walked quickly towards the bed.
’You’re finally healed, Iris.’
Xavier gently placed his hand on her forehead, trying to wake her up from her unconsciousness. When he saw her long eyelashes flutter slowly. Suddenly, he felt a mix of emotions, a thrill, and fear; Iris would be traumatized if she remembered her encounter with Selina.
Xavier sat on the side of the bed, his gaze never leaving her, waiting for her to open her eyes fully.
"Iris..." he greeted her softly; however, he felt worried when he saw her blue eyes slightly red. "I’m sorry, Iris... I couldn’t come to rescue you sooner."
Iris closed her eyes again as a bright light dazzled her eyes. But when she heard Xavier’s voice sounding sad, she forced herself to open her eyes and met his worried gaze.
She could see how sad he was now. Her hand slowly moved to hold his hand.
"X-Xavier... This is my fault. I didn’t hear your warning. I—"
Xavier placed his finger on her lips to stop her from saying anything. "No need to say that. The most important thing to me is that you’ve returned to me healthy."
Instantly, Iris’s eyes widened as she remembered what happened to her in the woods and realized that she was still alive and now talking to Xavier. She clearly remembered a woman attacking her, and with just a blow, that woman sent her flying, and she thought she had died.
But why was she alive again?
She was puzzled.
"This is just a dream, right? That’s why I can see you by my side, Xavier," Iris said, raising her hand to touch his pale, handsome face.
When her palm touched Xavier’s cold skin, her heart fluttered.
"Why does this feel so real? I can feel your cold skin again, Xavier..." her voice trembling, excited but simultaneously confused. "This isn’t real, is it? How could I survive after that woman threw me like I was a piece of paper?"
She withdrew her hand, but Xavier grabbed her hand before it moved away from his cheek.
"Iris, you’re not dead. You’re still alive..." His voice sounded hurried.
Iris was stunned. She turned to meet his golden eyes once more as if she wanted to ensure that the man before her, Xavier, was real and not just her imagination.
"Are you for real?" She asked while frowning.
Xavier didn’t answer her but lowered his head slightly towards Iris and captured her dry, red lips. He kissed her gently, letting her know this wasn’t her imagination but reality.
After a few seconds, their lips parted. His eyes stared into her blue eyes with a loving smile.
"You’re alive, Iris Gray. With me beside you, you will not die," he vowed. "From now on, no one on this earth could harm you..."
Xavier lowered his head once more and covered her lips with his. The lingering kiss seemed to have expressed his inner feelings toward her—the fear of losing her.
After the kiss, Iris’s fair face blushed. Now, she believed she was still alive. But something bothered her mind.
Why didn’t she feel any pain at all? She felt like she had just awakened from a good night’s sleep.
"Xavier, how long did I sleep?" She asked, afraid she might have been in a coma.
