Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife
Chapter 122: We Are Adults!

Chapter 122: We Are Adults!

Iris was slightly surprised to hear her grandma’s question. She tried to appear as calm as possible and simply nodded in response while glancing at Xavier. She was curious to see if he was already aware of the news.

"Heaven! That child was unlucky," Cassandra continued, her tone filled with sadness and pity. "She died at such a young age, and her death was scandalous. How could she be found dead with someone else’s husband in a hotel room?"

Iris remained silent, her thoughts racing as she processed her grandmother’s words.

’Grandma, if only you knew that your granddaughter was responsible for their deaths, you might be in shock,’ she silently sighed and continued to eat.

Now, she felt confused about why God needed someone like her to take a sinner’s life. Why didn’t He simply end their lives Himself?

This was one of the questions she wanted to ask Lucian, but that man seemed to avoid her, adding to her frustration.

"Did you know about the news, Xavier?" Cassandra asked, glancing at Xavier.

"Yes. I read the news on the internet while I was heading here," Xavier replied calmly.

"I’ve heard that the Winters family business is facing problems. People are leaving many negative reviews on their resort business page."

"I read that as well," Xavier responded, his gaze shifting to Iris, who kept her head lowered, seemingly uninterested in their conversation.

They continued eating dinner, but it didn’t take long; something crossed Cassandra’s mind again. She looked at Iris and Xavier, who had finished half their food.

"Do you two know how they died?" Cassandra asked, but before Iris and Xavier could react, she continued, "I read on the internet that they said they died from exhaustion during se—" She could not continue her words. She somehow felt uncomfortable.

Iris nearly choked upon hearing her grandmother’s words while Xavier maintained his usual expression.

Looking at the two, Cassandra thought about the need to remind them. She fixed a sharp gaze on them. "I hope you both can control yourselves during your se—"

"Grandma, please..." Iris interrupted her grandmother, unable to let her continue. She could sense where this conversation was headed, possibly due to her previous discussions with Justin. It was unbearable to listen to such talk, especially with Xavier present.

"Oh, you understand what I mean, Iris? Oh, dear... Good... It’s good that you understand. Well, you both must ensure you don’t overexert yourselves," Cassandra said casually. Still, her words felt like thunder in Iris’s ears.

Speechless, Iris could only let out a long sigh.

"Xavier, I know you are still young and strong, but I hope you can—" Before Cassandra could finish her sentence, she heard a chair being pushed back.

"I am done!" Iris stood up from her chair and looked at Xavier. "You’re finished, too, right?"

Xavier nodded calmly, but inwardly, he laughed hearing Cassandra’s mind; she was so concerned about their sex activity.

"Let’s go upstairs, Xavier. There’s something I want to discuss," Iris said hurriedly, casting a brief glance at her grandmother. "Grandma, we have finished our dinner. I’m heading upstairs with Xavier. You can leave the plates in the sink; I’ll wash them later." After saying that, she grabbed Xavier’s arm and led him upstairs.

"Ooo..." Cassandra said. She was still taken aback by the sight of Iris’s empty plate. She watched them as they disappeared from her view.

"Wow! This is the first time I’ve seen her eat so quickly..." Cassandra whispers with a smile on her face.

....

"Why do you seem embarrassed talking about that?" Xavier asked as they settled on the sofa, sitting beside each other.

"About what?" She turned to look at him, a slight frown appearing on her forehead.

"Talking about us having sex," Xavier said calmly. However, it was clear that Iris tensed up again after hearing it, causing her to blush even more.

’How could he talk about this so casually? How shameless you are, Xavier Darkwood!’ She scolded him in her mind while trying to maintain her calm expression, but she felt she had failed because her face had now turned warm.

"Could you please stop discussing it?" Iris wanted to say those words, but they remained stuck on her lips for unknown reasons. She remained silent, not wanting to delve further into that matter.

However, her wish was in vain as Xavier continued, "We’re both adults, Iris. It’s natural for us to discuss such things. There’s no need to feel embarrassed," he chuckled.

Iris, who had been trying to ignore him, could only let out a deep sigh. After shifting her focus to a different topic, she looked at him seriously, "Indeed. But, Xavier... I don’t want to talk about it. There are more important matters we need to address now."

Her serious expression made Xavier halt his teasing. "About your grandma’s illness?" he asked. He sensed her worry earlier when he heard her thoughts in her sleep.

"Yes. You mentioned that you’d accompany me to the hospital. Can we go there tomorrow? I want to hear from the doctor as soon as possible..." She spoke with concern in her voice.

Xavier nodded while gently stroking her hair. "I will arrange an appointment with the doctor and inform you when we can go."

"Thank you, Xavier. I appreciate it," Iris replied softly. She couldn’t bear the thought of losing her only family in this life. If there were anything she could do to help her grandmother, she would do it.

...

Xavier didn’t need to hear her thoughts. Only seeing her face turn gloomy, he knew how sad she was.

He took something from his coat pocket and handed it to her. "This is for you..."

Iris was surprised to see the flat red velvet box in Xavier’s hand. "What is this?"

"A gift. I bought it when I was in Dubai," he smiled, looking at her confused expression. "Open it—"

Iris was stunned to hear that Xavier had bought a gift for her. Even though he was there taking care of his family business for only a short time, he still had found a way to think of her. She felt touched.

She slowly opened it and was shocked when she saw a beautiful ring inside the box.

"A ring?"
