Chapter 49: Jealous

"You will expose me if you call me ’madam’ in front of my friends, Josh."

Aurora didn’t wait for him to respond but got into the car.

She took her cell phone out of her bag to check David’s message. However, she saw nothing.

She stared at her cell phone screen for a few seconds, puzzled. It was unusual for David to take so long to respond to her text messages.

A few minutes after leaving Green Hill, Aurora finally turned her attention to Josh, who was driving silently.

"Josh, I’m supposed to sit next to you. How can we be friends if I’m sitting in the back seat? You look like my driver. No one will believe me if I say we’re friends."

Josh’s expression tensed at Aurora’s words. How could his boss’s wife sit next to him? He felt confused and didn’t know how to respond.

He could only squeeze the steering wheel tightly and stare straight at the busy road ahead.

Not hearing him speak, Aurora couldn’t help but laugh inwardly.

"Josh, are you worried Alex might become jealous and angry with you?" she asked playfully.

But Josh answered her nervously, "Y-Yes, ma’am. He might be angry with me."

"Stop calling me ma’am! Call me Aurora! That’s my name. Can you call me that?" she protested again. This wasn’t the first time she had asked him, but he still refused.

Josh tightened his grip on the steering wheel again without saying anything or making any gesture to signal his acceptance of her request.

"If you refuse my request, I will ask Alex to instruct you to call me by my name. Do you want me to tell Alex to instruct you instead??"

Aurora offered, knowing well that Alex wouldn’t care.

Her marriage to Alex wasn’t like any other marriage; it lacked feelings and romance. Their relationship was merely a contract-based marriage arrangement.

"Please don’t, ma’am... Aurora..." Josh finally managed to speak. He stopped her, but in his mind, he was already planning to contact Alex later to ask for permission.

Aurora smiled with delight upon hearing Josh finally call her by her name.

It felt much better than being addressed as "Madam." It was a bit odd, though, since Josh had been one of a few very close friends in her past life.

After a brief pause, Aurora remembered something and shifted her gaze back to Josh.

"Can I ask you something, Josh?"

"Sure," Josh replied, glancing in the rearview mirror for a moment before focusing again on the road ahead.

"Before working for me, were you Alex’s bodyguard?"

He nodded. "Yes, I’m, Ma’am."

"So, who will guard Alex if you guard me now?" Aurora asked.

She knew that Alex had a few strong bodyguards who usually followed him, but she was aware that Josh was the strongest among them.

"Boss Alex has someone better, more qualified than me to guard him. I don’t know if you’ve heard of this person before, but we call him Dave," Josh explained without glancing at her.

Aurora was stunned. She knew him; he was their leader and rarely appeared. He was responsible for ensuring Alex and the company’s VIPs’ safety from behind the curtains.

’Gosh! Alex, why did you send Josh to guard me? Now you’ve dragged Dave out into the field again?’

Aurora sighed silently as she looked out the window, trying to distract herself from thoughts of Alex.

However, she was taken aback when she realized they had entered the campus area. She directed Josh toward her faculty.

Aurora quickly moved to the front seat before the car stopped in the parking lot and sat beside Josh.

"Ma’am, please don’t do that. You might get hurt..." Josh was taken aback by her sudden movement.

"It’s fine, Josh. I need to sit here because I’m worried that someone might think you aren’t my friend but my chauffeur..."

Aurora chuckled, glancing at him briefly before opening the door.

"Okay, let’s go, Josh! We’re going to be late..." She spoke calmly, but inside, she felt anxious about whether Josh would fit in with her campus friends and if he could enter the class.

Aurora stepped out of the car without waiting for Josh to say anything, ignoring his puzzled expression.

But, as she exited the vehicle, she noticed David’s car approaching the parking lot.

"Damn! Why is he here now?" she muttered softly, glancing at Josh, who stood beside her.

"Let’s go, Josh..." she tried to avoid David as she walked toward the building.

Still, she could hear his voice calling out to her.

"Good morning, beauty. Huh!? Aurora, why are you avoiding me?" he asked, managing to walk beside her.

"We’re late," she replied casually, not slowing her pace.

Josh leaned closer and asked in a low voice, enough for Aurora to hear, "Who is that man?" His tone was defensive.

"He’s Alex’s cousin, my classmate, but he doesn’t know I’m married to Alex. Please don’t say anything to him."

Josh was surprised to hear this; he hadn’t been informed about any of Aurora’s classmates. "Yes, no worries. I’ll make sure of it," he assured her.

...

David’s eyes were fixed on the unfamiliar man walking alongside Aurora.

Several times, he wanted to ask her about him, but he didn’t have the chance because the man stayed too close to them.

After a few more minutes of waiting, it seemed the man would not leave Aurora’s side. David decided to ask her, ignoring whether the man would hear his question.

"Who is that man? Why have I never seen him before?" David asked in a low tone, but Josh clearly heard him.

Josh raised an eyebrow and shot David a sharp, intimidating glare. However, the shameless David ignored him.

While Josh and David exchanged glances in a silent battle, Aurora sighed inwardly.

Once again, she found herself needing to craft a story to hide Josh’s true identity as her bodyguard.

After a brief thought, she answered David, "You don’t know him? He’s a new student in our class."

Aurora explained casually, though she inwardly blamed Alex for putting her in this situation.
