Chapter 509 - Chapter 509 Chapter 497 Cant Wait
Chapter 509: Chapter 497: Can’t Wait Chapter 509: Chapter 497: Can’t Wait Lu Hongjun thought he had already retired and that the matter had been too long past for anyone to still pursue it. Yet, after hearing Lu Jiaxin’s words, he became somewhat uncertain again.
Lu Jiaxin said, “Tell me the exact location of the items, and I’ll have Wang Lin retrieve them.”
Without a second thought, Lu Hongjun rejected the idea, adding, “That’s not going to work. What if your bodyguard gets greedy, takes the items, and runs off?”
Seeing her cautiousness only convinced Lu Jiaxin more of the extraordinariness of these items: “Rest assured, they would give up their lives to protect me, so why would they abscond for a few trinkets?”
Lu Hongjun’s face changed dramatically as he asked, “What do you mean they would give up their lives to protect you? Have you been in some kind of trouble?”
The kidnap attempt had already been disclosed to Lu Jiaguang, and it wouldn’t be long before he was informed too. Of course, Lu Jiaxin didn’t mean to hide the incident, but she didn’t want to worry them.
Lu Jiaxin explained, “Someone got envious of my fortune and tried to kidnap me, but my bodyguards fought them off valiantly. Now, give me the exact address. I’ll have Wang Lin familiarize himself with the area first, then retrieve it tonight.”
“It’s well-hidden. They won’t find it without me,” he said.
Going back and forth, Lu Jiaxin relented, “Fine. I’ll send someone to pick you up after dinner, and you can lead the bodyguard to fetch it tonight.”
If he was willing to go through the hassle, the bodyguard wouldn’t mind. As for whether Lu Hongjun’s body could take it, if he wanted to act tough, she wasn’t going to interfere.
“You’re not coming?”
Lu Jiaxin certainly wasn’t planning to go. “It’s just a few items, nothing worth the trip.”
“They’re all treasures that you don’t see every day.”
Lu Jiaxin laughed lightly and replied, “Last week, Su Heyuan bid for a yellow-ground famille rose ‘Fortune and Longevity’ vase for me. Could your treasures be rarer than famille rose?”
Upon hearing this, Lu Hongjun couldn’t help but query, “Su Heyuan has a girlfriend, the Young Lady of a senior official in Hong Kong. Her family delayed their marriage because an elderly family member passed away. If he’s giving you such valuable gifts, he must have some hidden motives–you shouldn’t accept them.”
Lu Jiaxin snorted coldly, “Just because you have a corrupt heart doesn’t mean everyone else does.”
“Su Heyuan and I might as well be siblings, and I know his girlfriend; we often dine together. It’s not the messy situation you’re imagining.”
Rendered argumentless by the rebuff, Lu Hongjun could only say, “Each one of my items is better than the famille rose porcelain Su Heyuan bought.”
Lu Jiaxin’s interest was piqued by his claim, and she decided to accompany them that night. They’d surely need to prepare equipment for the night’s endeavor, so she called for Li Qing and Wang Lin, instructing them to purchase flashlights and some other gear that might come in handy later.
Around nine, Lu Jiaxin had Wang Lin go to pick up Lu Hongjun. Unexpectedly, at the pickup, Tang Sufen stubbornly refused to let Lu Hongjun leave, arguing that it was too unsafe at that hour and any matters could wait until the next day.
Miao Na, not one to indulge such resistance, dragged her back into the room and pressed a knife against Tang Sufen’s carotid artery, “My boss doesn’t have the patience to deal with you, otherwise I would have sent you to heaven by now.”
To consider the boss soft would be a grave mistake. Kang Huijuan would spend the rest of her life in prison, Ah Fei was shot in the head, and Brother Qiang’s life was worse than a dog’s without his legs. It’s just that the boss was kindhearted and didn’t dwell on trivial matters.
Tang Sufen was so frightened that she wet herself.
Miao Na released her disdainfully and then tucked the dagger back into her boot. With such little courage, she dared to make trouble in front of the boss. Truly, she didn’t know the meaning of death.
Wang Lin took Lu Hongjun to the Shichahai mansion and showed him to a guest room in the front courtyard, “Mr. Lu, please wait here. The boss is currently occupied and can’t come over, but if you’re tired, feel free to rest.”
Lu Hongjun said he was tired and wanted something to eat.
Wang Lin was somewhat surprised but still nodded and went to find the cook. He asked for a bowl of egg and vegetable noodles for him, accompanied by a side of sour and crunchy radish and smashed cucumber.
“Why isn’t there any meat?”
Wang Lin said with a smile, “The cook said it’s not good to eat meat late at night as it’s hard to digest. If you want meat, Old Master, I can have the cook prepare some for you in the morning.”
Lu Hongjun ate a mouthful of noodles with dissatisfaction but didn’t expect it to be very tasty, and even the sour and crunchy radish and smashed cucumber were delicious. Since there wasn’t much, he finished it all.
After eating, Lu Hongjun regretted having such a tense fallout with his daughter. Otherwise, he could have lived with her and enjoyed good food and drink.
It wasn’t until half-past ten that the group set off. Since Wang Lin had already made a trip in the afternoon, even though it was dark and the road was hard to find, they arrived quickly.
Parking next to the horse, the group zigzagged until they arrived outside a bungalow.
Lu Hongjun took out the keys and asked Lu Jiaxin to open the door. Lu Jiaxin refused, passing the keys to Yan Yijun while she took out a mask to wear.
As soon as they pushed open the front door, even with a mask on, Lu Jiaxin could smell the strong moldy scent. This was why a house falls into disrepair so quickly when no one has lived in it for long.
Yan Yijun closed and locked the door behind them and then asked Zong Jinghua to stay in the yard while the rest of them entered the house.
Lu Hongjun pointed at the stairs and said, “The item is in the attic; let’s go up and get it.”
Seeing the thick layer of dust on the wooden staircase, Lu Jiaxin said disdainfully, “Wang Lin, Li Qing, you go up and bring the item down.”
Upon hearing this, Lu Hongjun said, “The item is in a hidden compartment in the attic. If I don’t go up, they won’t know how to open it.”
“Then you go up, and I’ll wait here,” Lu Jiaxin said. She was not keen on getting covered in dust, and she wondered how he had found this place and knew about the hidden compartment.
Having no other choice, Lu Hongjun had Wang Lin help him up, and Li Qing, along with Nick, also followed. As for Yan Yijun and Miao Na, the two stayed by Lu Jiaxin’s side. Yan Yijun was always close at hand when she was out and about, with Miao Na following closely when it was inconvenient for him.
About ten minutes later, they all came down.
Lu Jiaxin noticed that Li Qing and Nick were each holding two boxes, a total of six of varying sizes and all locked.
It wasn’t suitable to open the boxes there, so Lu Jiaxin told Li Qing, “Put these boxes in the suitcases.”
“Okay.”
Back at home, Lu Jiaxin had the six boxes placed in the front courtyard’s reception room. After they were set down, she said, “You can all go out now.”
Yan Yijun and the others immediately left, with him being the last one and thoughtfully closing the door behind him.
Lu Jiaxin pointed at the locks on the boxes and said, “Hurry and open them.”
To her, locking them was entirely unnecessary. If it was their own people fetching them, there was no need to lock them; if someone else stole them, they could simply find someone who knew how to pick locks. However, seeing how cautious he was, Lu Jiaxin thought if these items weren’t national treasures, she would burst out laughing at him later.
Lu Hongjun first took out a bunch of keys from his pants, then looked at the numbers on the six boxes and chose the key marked with a 4.
