Chapter 113: The Mark
Chapter 113: The Mark
[This Chapter may not be the best for many users. But alas, it is how the book is]
Nyz stood on the battlefield, facing the king and his massive army. Behind him was the King of Verlont, who stared furiously in his direction.
"Boy!" Bryant shouted. "Who are you?"
There was no response.
"Why did you kill my son?!" Hugo, King of Verlont, glared viciously at Nyz, his chest heaving. Then he turned sharply to Bryant. "And you, King Bryant—how dare you attack me, your ally?!"
"Ally?" Bryant scoffed coldly. "Where were you when Freau needed your support against Welit? I called upon you countless times, yet you ignored me."
"And so you wage war against me?" Hugo’s expression darkened further. "Was it you who sent this bastard?"
"I have no need for such petty tricks," Bryant declared proudly. "My soldiers and I are more than enough."
Hugo descended to the ground, approaching Nyz aggressively. "Then this little rat is trying to stir trouble?"
Nyz silently watched the powerful aura closing in. Although a strong Zorath, he was only capable of barely holding off a rank-five cultivator. Killing one directly was impossible. His skills specialized in stealth, espionage, and assassination—not direct combat.
"Speak, boy!" Hugo bellowed, towering over him.
Realizing there was no escape, Nyz lowered his stance slightly, eyes shifting toward Bryant. Both kings tensed, ready to strike the instant he moved.
I will die today, Nyz thought bitterly, but I will complete Master’s task first! Taking a deep breath, he suddenly pointed toward Bryant, a sly smirk appearing on his face.
Seeing this gesture, Bryant’s eyes narrowed angrily.
"Such arrogance! Fine, I’ll end your life myself!" Without hesitation, Bryant charged forward.
"I’ll kill him!" Hugo roared in anger, refusing to let another take revenge for his son’s death.
Perfect. Nyz quickly sidestepped, dodging both kings’ simultaneous attacks. His arms transformed as he swiftly delivered a punch toward Bryant, sending him flying back.
Hugo suddenly noticed arrows raining down toward his soldiers.
"SOLDIERS, HOLD FIR—"
"You bastard! This was your scheme!" Seeing his unprepared troops fall, Hugo exploded in fury. "SOLDIERS, ATTACK!"
"Dammit!" Bryant gritted his teeth, realizing someone had triggered this chaos. "ATTACK!"
With both kings giving orders, their armies surged forward, plunging into violent chaos.
Nyz took advantage, quickly disappearing amidst the battling soldiers.
"Find him!" Hugo growled, eyes bloodshot. "Bryant, you treacherous dog! I’ll avenge my son with your army!" He immediately charged toward the Freau army.
Bryant intercepted him swiftly. "Your enemy is right here!"
The two kings clashed fiercely, eyes still searching the battlefield for Nyz.

Celis emerged from the building with Rose and Luna.
"What’s happening?" Rose asked, panicked.
"It’s Welit!" A fleeing citizen shouted, sprinting past them. "They’re attacking!"
Rose paled instantly. Celis’s expression also turned grave.
"Follow me," Celis urged, grabbing Rose and Luna and ascending quickly into the sky. They hovered high above, observing the invading soldiers flooding into the city.
"War..." Rose whispered in shock.
"I’d heard rumors that Freau and Welit had gone to war," Celis admitted grimly. "But I didn’t think it would reach here."
"We must do something!" Rose exclaimed desperately.
"I can’t," Celis said solemnly.
"Why not?" Rose demanded, confused. "With your strength, you could stop this easily!"
"I could," he sighed deeply. "But sects are forbidden from interfering in mortal wars. There’s a natural balance we must respect, and breaking it has severe consequences." He pointed to soldiers capturing civilians below. "Besides, the rules dictate innocents must be spared; this is mainly soldier versus soldier."
Rose reluctantly nodded, recalling similar rules from the war in her homeland. Sects had similarly refused to intervene then, causing endless suffering.
"Come, staying here is meaningless now," Celis urged gently. "The city will soon be in ruins."
Rose nodded painfully, biting her lip as she watched children crying below.
"Can’t we do...anything?" she asked hesitantly. She understood the rules but loathed them deeply. If someone had saved her back then, perhaps things would’ve been different.
Celis sighed softly, sensing her turmoil. "Do you want me to save this city?"
"Yes," Rose replied without hesitation.
"Alright, I’ll—" Celis suddenly froze. "Wait, what’s that?!"

Master, the final ritual is complete!
I have also completed mine!
Yur rose from the soft bed, his muscular chest bare. Behind him, Xia lay naked, a blissful smile on her face.
Good, Yur replied calmly. Await further instructions.
Understood.
Yes, Master!
Disconnecting from his subordinates, Yur turned back toward Xia, who blushed shyly under his gaze.
Zul, show me the ritual’s progress.

[...]
"Yur?" Xia’s gentle voice interrupted his concentration. He turned toward her, eyes emotionless as always.
"I...don’t feel good," Xia said weakly, her voice trembling.
Yur swiftly pulled away the blanket covering her bare body, closely examining her stomach.
"Lie still," he ordered, all warmth gone from his tone.
[Warning! Warning!]
[The Ritual has Failed!]
"Dammit!" Yur slammed his fist down in anger, shattering Xia’s leg instantly.
"AHHH!" Xia screamed, agony overwhelming her senses as her leg twisted grotesquely. "YUR!"
Ignoring her pleas, Yur stood abruptly, watching the glowing Glythari’s around her stomach vanish. His expression darkened. "Fuck."
Enraged, Yur turned and left the room without another glance, leaving Xia writhing alone in excruciating pain.
"YUR, HELP!" Xia shrieked, blood gushing from her mouth, foaming violently. Blisters erupted across her stomach and abdomen.
"It burns!" she sobbed hysterically. "HELP ME!"
————————————————————————
Yur flew swiftly, heading towards a predetermined location.
"Yur!" Julian suddenly approached him, furious. "The Welit capital—it was completely destroyed! The buildings collapsed, the citizens vanished—wait, where’s Xia?!"
"Fuck off," Yur growled, shoving Julian aside roughly.
"What did you just—"
Suddenly, a faint, desperate scream reached Julian’s ears. Daddy!
Julian’s heart froze. "Xia?!" he gasped, turning toward the distant voice.
Daddy, help me!
Julian spun around frantically to confront Yur, but the young man had vanished without a trace.
Daddy! Xia’s voice, desperate and terrified, echoed louder.
"XIA, I’M COMING!" Julian shouted desperately, panic consuming him. Sweat poured down his face as painful memories resurfaced. He charged recklessly toward the cries. "This time, I’ll protect you!"
————————————————————————
Bursting into the room, Julian froze, horror gripping him. Xia lay on the bed, covered in blood, skin torn open from frantic scratching. Blisters exploded painfully across her body.
"Daddy...It burns!" Xia wailed, reaching weakly for him.
"What happened?!" Julian choked out, quickly forcing potent medicinal pills into her mouth.
"AHH!" she screamed again, blood spilling uncontrollably. Her limbs spasmed violently. "Help me, Daddy! Help!"
Julian desperately infused his essence into her body, but nothing stopped the internal fire burning her alive.
"What’s going on?!" he shouted helplessly, tears streaming down his face. Black flames visibly consumed her from within, beyond his ability to extinguish.
"KILL ME, DADDY! PLEASE!" Xia’s scream tore into his soul. Julian trembled, blood vessels bursting in his eyes as agony crushed him.
He tried to figure something out, going through anything in his spatial ring. He pulled out all medications, every pill.
Using his own essence, he tried back against the flames, yet no matter how much he engaged it, he was powerless.
Nothing worked!
"Daddy!!" Her arms held his clothes tightly as she trembled severely.
He could see she was getting weaker, yet the pain was not getting any better. What do I do?!
Trying his best to come up with anything, the only thought coming in was an action he had done many years back. Something that saved his father from a painful death.
Clenching his teeth, he stared at his daughter, tears streaming still.
"I’m sorry, baby! Forgive me!" Sobbing uncontrollably, Julian lifted his sword, eyes tightly shut, and swung down toward Xia’s neck.
The room fell silent. Julian collapsed, holding Xia’s lifeless, bleeding body in his shaking arms.
"XIA!" he screamed in despair, clutching her head tightly. "YUR!"
The force of Julian’s anguished howl obliterated the building around him, reducing everything to dust.
