Rearing Demons
Chapter 112: War Progress

Chapter 112: War Progress

Zhal’s eyes widened when he saw this.

TRA—

Before he could say anything, Jisvruul crushed his throat.

"Enough. It’s time for you to be recreated." Opening his mouth wide, he swallowed Zhal whole. "You’ll remain alive until it’s time. But if you cause trouble, I’ll just kill you." As Zhal entered his stomach, Jisvruul wiped his lips.

"Zhal! Mom!" Fren, despite his injuries, rushed toward Jisvruul with rage in his eyes. Seeing him come, Jisvruul didn’t even flinch. Instead, he stepped forward to meet him.

"AH!" Fren raised his fists, aiming to strike—but with his weakened strength, what could he truly do?

Jisvruul effortlessly caught his hand mid-swing. "I’ll be needing you as well. It’s great to see you being so proactive." Fren struggled furiously, but Jisvruul ignored his futile resistance, soaring into the sky and dragging Fren along.

"Fren!" Ley screamed desperately, legs trembling as she struggled to stand, watching helplessly as her brother was taken away. She had seen almost everything, though she’d barely heard a sound. With shaky steps, she approached her mother’s severed head lying on the ground.

Her knees buckled as she fell beside it, eyes widening and heart racing wildly. "MOM!" she howled, tears flooding down her face.

"Alright, it’s time for me to join the battle," Yur announced, turning toward Xia. "Your father should be nearly done by now."

"Okay," Xia replied with a gentle smile.

Wings erupted from Yur’s back, and he leapt off the hawk, diving toward the soldiers who were finishing the battle below.

"Julian," Yur called out, appearing swiftly.

"Yur?" Julian turned around, smiling as he saw the young man. "We took the city easily. How was it on your end?"

"It went well. I infiltrated the castle and killed everyone." Yur’s words made Julian’s eyes widen in shock.

"You killed everyone?" Julian repeated, stunned.

"Of course." Yur nodded casually.

"What do you mean, everyone? Even the children?!" Julian asked, his voice trembling.

"Don’t worry. I had someone else handle—"

"Yur!" Julian grabbed Yur’s collar angrily. "We agreed: no children, no women! No innocents unless they were soldiers!"

Yur calmly removed Julian’s grip. "I never agreed to your terms," he said bluntly. "You made that decision yourselves. I simply did what I deemed necessary."

"The youngest prince was only eight!" Julian shouted, furious. "He was just a child!"

"What of the children who’ve lost their parents in this war?" Yur replied coldly. "Losing a parent—a protector—is far more painful than losing one’s own life." He looked out over the bodies scattered around them. "Think about it: all the children, wives, husbands, and mothers connected to these dead enemies will feel a pain none can imagine." Yur locked eyes with Julian. "Julian, don’t you know how much it hurts to lose someone dear?"

"Watch your tongue," Julian growled, understanding Yur’s implication.

Yur sighed and patted Julian’s shoulder. "The war favors us, yet you want to argue about minor details?" Shaking his head, he continued, "You’re grieving for people who would gladly destroy Freau, people who would have made you suffer."

Yur turned away, descending toward the ground. "I did you a favor, Julian. I soaked my hands in the blood you’d never dare to spill."

Julian clenched his fists tightly, knowing Yur spoke some truth, yet he couldn’t fully accept Yur’s brutal logic.\

War was natural; battles were inevitable. But war had its rules—innocents shouldn’t be involved.

Looking up at Xia still on the hawk, Julian’s expression darkened. Xia, this Yur is ruthless. Maybe... maybe he isn’t the best for you? He shook his head, refocusing. He still had a war to win.

"Alright, men, rest up! We move to Welit’s capital in a few hours!" Julian roared. "With this victory as proof, we’ll conquer the capital and all beyond!"

"RAAH!" The soldiers cheered, exhaustion mixed with adrenaline.

Fortunately, their losses were minimal. Without any rank-five cultivators opposing them, the battle had been effortless. Moreover, catching the enemy off guard had drastically reduced their casualties.

Nobody had expected a trade city, one that held so many kingdoms’ interests, to be attacked so abruptly. With Welit’s royal family eliminated, Freau had effectively secured victory, though only Yur knew the truth. Julian and others still assumed the rank-five threats remained.

Xia alone knew Yur’s secret, and he ensured she stayed quiet.

Suddenly, Yur received a telepathic communication.

Master, I completed the fourth ritual circle! I’m heading to the final site. It was Jisvruul.

Good. Remain on standby after the final ritual.

Understood.

Nyz, report, Yur demanded, needing Nyz to complete his task quickly.

Master, I’ve set the bait, but the kings of Freau and Verlont have noticed me.

Yur frowned deeply. Don’t get caught.

Understood.

Yur ended the communication, frustration mounting. These two rank-four demons were proving troublesome. Unlike Velmira and Jisvruul, who had perfectly executed their duties, Zhal and now Nyz risked derailing his plans. I need the Freau King gone quickly.

Annoyed, Yur crushed the head of a nearby corpse as he walked.

Velmira, how much longer?

I’m creating the final ritua—

Before she finished, Nyz interrupted. Master, I’ve been spotted by the Freau King!

"Damn it!" Yur’s dull eyes ignited briefly with fury. Nyz, kill him at any cost!

U-understood.

"What’s wrong, Yur?" Xia approached, hopping off the hawk. "You look upset."

Yur turned slowly, hiding his emotions behind his usual blank expression. Zul, how long until the Mark? It’s nearly been a week.

[Scanning Xia...]

[Mark Completion: 97%]

[One more intimate encounter should complete the Mark.]

Finally, good news. Yur stepped toward Xia, suddenly pulling her waist toward him and planting a deep kiss on her lips.

"Y-Yur?" Xia gasped softly, embarrassed at being kissed publicly.

"What are you doing, Yur?" Julian landed behind them, frowning deeply. "You two aren’t married yet."

Yur turned back, indifferent. "It was excitement." He released Xia’s waist but kept holding her hand. "We’ll explore the city. You should move toward the capital."

"You aren’t joining?" Julian asked, confused.

"No need. I’ve done all that’s required. All that’s left is hunting the Luminous Heart cultivators." Yur smiled at Xia. "Ready?"

She blushed, silently staring down.

Julian sighed, relenting. "Fine, I’ll handle the capital. Then this war will truly end."

HE felt uneasy. Victory had come too easily—suspiciously so.

"Have fun." Yur grabbed Xia’s hand and flew off toward the city.

"What’s going on?" Celis muttered. Despite days of searching, Jin was nowhere to be found. "Why can’t we find him?"

Rose felt her world crumble. They’d searched relentlessly, yet nothing. Even Celis’s scanning abilities yielded no results. It was as if Jin vanished entirely.

"I’m sorry I couldn’t help more," Celis apologized.

Rose sighed heavily. "Thank you for trying." She bowed slightly, holding back tears. Despite escaping the slave camp, they’d lost Jin again. Misfortune haunted them constantly.

"Come with me," Celis offered gently. "My sect is the strongest in this world. You’d be safe and could cultivate."

Rose hesitated, finally shaking her head. "I must find Jin."

"Give it a few more days," Celis suggested kindly. "If there’s no news, come with me. I’ll have my contacts search thoroughly. Information gathering isn’t my specialty, but I know people who excel at it."

Rose bit her lip, then nodded. "Alright, I’ll accept your offer."

Celis smiled warmly. "Don’t worry, my people will find Jin even if they must turn the world upside-down." He formed a glowing blue bird on his palm.

"What’s that?" Luna asked curiously, momentarily distracted.

"It’s my Azure Messenger Bird." Celis explained, "If you touch it and clearly picture Jin, it’ll deliver his image directly to my people to begin searching immediately."

Rose placed her hand into the gentle warmth of the bird, immediately envisioning Jin’s face.

Suddenly, urgent shouts erupted from outside: "Soldiers! RUN!"
