Chapter 105: Making Preparation
Chapter 105: Making Preparation
The Dungeon known as Martial Sanctuary was unlike any other. Its entrance took the form of an ancient Chinese temple, complete with curved roofs and intricate wooden architecture. Above the gate hung a wooden sign engraved with the symbol of Taichi, the classic Yin-Yang pattern that shimmered faintly under the sunlight.
This was it. The gateway to the Martial Sanctuary, the world where his next objective awaited.
However, today was not the day to enter. He had come only to observe. He needed to understand the layout, the defenses, and most importantly, find a safe method to get inside without revealing himself.
The entrance was heavily guarded. Five individuals stood on alert. Three men and two women. All dressed in red uniforms marked with the crest of the Skadi Empire across their chests.
Each of them gave off a fierce presence. Judging by their aura, they were all at least Champion Rank or higher. They weren’t the threat to him, but they could be secretly backed by powerful forces.
He studied them carefully. Charging through would be really risky. Using his real identity was equally impossible. After all that had happened, it was far too dangerous to expose himself openly.
He needed another approach.
If he wanted to step into the Martial Sanctuary, he would have to do it silently.
Without a trace.
Then his gaze fell on a group of people entering the Dungeon. Some moved alone, but most traveled in tight-knit teams.
He narrowed his eyes thoughtfully. The world inside the Dungeon was vast. So how did these people manage to find each other so easily once they were inside?
It seemed like there was something he wasn’t aware of.
Turning to Shirley, he asked, "Shirley, how do these groups manage to regroup after entering the new world? Is there some secret method they use?"
Shirley smiled faintly. "Yes, there is. They use a rare magical treasure called Soul Connectors. I’m not exactly sure how they work, since I’ve never used one myself. But from what I’ve heard, they allow two or more people to stay close when their souls are transferred into the other world."
"Hmm.. Sounds like something only the elite would have access to."
"Exactly. Most ordinary Divers don’t own them. But my father used to go into the Dungeon with his closest friends. That’s how I found out about them."
He nodded, understanding now. "Do you happen to have any of those Soul Connectors at home?"
"Yes," she replied softly. "Just a pair. My father kept them for the day he’d take me on an adventure with him, once I was strong enough."
She looked down sorrowfully. "But... that day never came."
He fell silent, his mind racing with the implications of Shirley’s words.
Ashvale had been a beginner-level world. That’s why he hadn’t encountered many powerful World Divers there. But this Dungeon... this Martial Sanctuary... it was different. Here, World Divers would appear in large numbers. Veterans, elites, maybe even monsters in human form. The stakes were on an entirely different level.
And then there were the inhabitants inside the world itself. Would they be friendly? Cooperative? Unlikely. He had to be prepared for anything.
Just as his thoughts darkened, the familiar sultry voice echoed in his mind:
’My Liege, I’m quite interested in exploring this new world this human girl spoke of,’ Evernight transmitted.
Hearing her, he smirked inwardly.
’Oh? You sound excited. What happened to your concern about the war in Ashvale?’ he asked, amused.
’Fufufu... That’s because I’ve done my part. I have delayed the War,’ she replied with playful confidence. ’Now, I’m simply waiting for you to fulfill your promise, Igaris.’
Her words made him pause.
He understood that she must’ve gone through a great deal to delay the war in Ashvale. He was feeling happy for her. But her mention of his promise also stirred a flicker of unease.
Only beginners were allowed in beginner-level Dungeons like Ashvale. Its remains active for small period. And once a Dungeon closed, it disappeared permanently.
So, the chances of returning there were slim to none.
But he couldn’t tell her that. Not yet.
He planned to find a way back. Somehow.
Until then, he had only one option.
To grow stronger. To raise an army that would shake the stars.
"Igaris, do you think it’s time?" she asked quietly, her fingers brushing her bracelet — the one that held the Soul Connectors.
"Not yet," he replied without looking at her. "We still need preparation. Entering now without understanding the layout or current power dynamics inside would be foolish."
She nodded, though a part of her longed to storm through those ancient gates. She had been waiting for years — waiting for a chance to find closure for her father’s death, and now, waiting for a chance to grow beside someone she believed in.
Igaris turned back. "Let’s head back for now. We’ll make plans tonight."
’My Liege... are you not worried someone will recognize you?’
’Of course I am,’ he responded mentally. ’That’s why we are moving cautiously.’
’Hmm... but you cannot stay hidden forever. Kings don’t rule from shadows.’
He didn’t answer. She wasn’t wrong.
He also didn’t plan to hide or run away forever. He was just waiting for the right time.
Back at Sophia’s house, the mood was more relaxed. Sophia had prepared dinner, and Shirley set the table. Igaris sat on the porch, staring up at the half-moon rising above Stargaze City’s skyline. The lights of the city flickered below, far removed from the darkness in his heart.
Shirley appeared beside him with two cups of tea. "When you were small, you always did like to sit in silence. That hasn’t changed," she said with a small smile, handing him one.
"Because, I can focus better like this," he replied and took a sip.
"I see. So what’s the plan?" she asked, sitting beside him. "We sneak in, but what then?"
"First, we locate a Martial Sect. According to the records, they holds the key to recruiting elite martial warriors. If we’re lucky, we can convince a few to join our cause."
"And if we’re not lucky?" she asked.
"Then we make them see reason. One way or another." his eyes glowed darkly.
He didn’t planned to turn them mindless slaves, but if he had no choice he wouldn’t hesitate.
Shirley’s eyes narrowed slightly. "You’re planning to use force if necessary."
"Yes. This world runs on strength," he said calmly. "And I intend to build something unshakable. Something worth bleeding for."
Shirley looked down at her tea. "Then I guess I need to start training harder."
From within his inner world, Evernight smirked as she eavesdropped. ’Fufufu.. Such loyalty... She’ll make a fine Empress someday.’
His brows twitched after hearing her. After all, he planned make her his Empress. Not Shirley. But she had yet to realise his feelings at all.
