Chapter 100: Opening Up A New Chapter
However, when Adrian learned who the first person to emerge from the World Dungeon was, he was beyond terrified. Now that he had returned to Orca, he no longer possessed the advanced Mecha he once relied on. So to say, he was weak. Far weaker compared to Igaris, who had effortlessly crushed an Elite Diver.
So, he did what any coward would do.
He reported Igaris’ accomplishments in Ashvale to his family. If left unchecked, it wouldn’t be long before that young man grew strong enough to challenge them.
Of course, the Adrian family’s foundation was formidable. A lone youth couldn’t possibly pose a real threat anytime soon. With that belief, they didn’t raise their guard too much. Instead, they dispatched a few watchers to monitor House Vance from the shadows.
As the noble house of War Commander Izroth, Vance couldn’t be touched openly without provoking a massive backlash from the Earth State. Such chaos would make it even harder for Adrian’s family and other three’s to maintain their grip on power.
So, for now, Igaris was safe, as long as he remained in plain sight.
But—
"Master, it seems the boy had other motives. He’s disappeared from House Vance," one of the spies reported urgently to the head of the Ecrox House—Adrian’s family.
The leader of the Ecrox House was a broad-shouldered, middle-aged man with bushy eyebrows and a terrifying presence. His aura alone could silence an entire court.
He clenched his fists the moment he heard the report.
"Fools! What were they thinking, letting that boy walk free? He should’ve been dealt with the moment he stepped out of the dungeon on his own two feet!" he roared, his voice more beast than man, vibrating through the stone chamber.
"Do the other three houses truly believe he’s some kind of saint? That he won’t seek revenge for what we did to him?"
"Bang!"
He slammed his hand down on the armrest of his obsidian throne.
"And the Emperor... that blind old fool. Why did he even let one Vance survive? Just to leave a splinter festering in our throat?"
"Brother-in-law, I think you’re worrying for nothing," said a slender man with neatly trimmed glasses, lounging casually beside the imposing leader. "That boy is all alone. And we have the Emperor backing us. What’s there to fear? We’ll catch him long before anything serious happens."
The leader snickered coldly and turned his piercing gaze toward the man. "You think so too, Ash? Then you’re more of a fool than I imagined."
He leaned forward, voice dropping to a growl. "Even a starving dog knows when to bite the hand that beats it. That boy, he’s no ordinary mutt. He had already discovered a Path from that beginner Dungeon. You should learn something from him."
The room grew heavier with tension.
"Your sister spoiled you and Adrian rotten," he added with a sneer. "And look at the mess you two have become."
Ash’s face flushed crimson with humiliation, but he dared not speak a word in return.
"Now go! Order everyone to find that boy at once. I want his head by tomorrow!"
—
Woodinson House, Main Hall
Aluna stood at the center of the marble floor while the extended family crowded around in raised tiers. Pale chandeliers cast silver light over unsmiling faces.
A tall man with the same icy-blue hair stepped forward. His voice carried through the hall, cold enough to frost the air.
"What do you mean you found no path Aluna?"
She met his gaze without flinching. "Father, I was given the body of a Mecha Rider. For someone like me, the Summoner’s path was impossible. There is no point in debating it."
Murmurs rippled through the room. She continued in a steady tone.
"I memorized several advanced mech blueprints through memory implantation. They can raise our military strength, and we can produce them on a large scale."
A girl near the pillars let out a sharp laugh. "That is not what a World Diver should bring back, cousin. Mass-produced machines will help the common soldiers, but they give no true power. You should have taken a risk to go to the Forsaken Land you spoke of and brought home Summoner arts. That is the real path."
The girl’s smile turned mocking. "Instead you lived like a sheltered princess for thirty days. You are a disappointment, Aluna. Shame on you."
Aluna’s brows drew together. A dull ache spread beneath her ribs. None of them recognized the effort it had taken to survive.
Are these people truly my family?
Then, a sudden flicker of unfamiliar memories slid across her vision. She saw a boy with dark hair—warm afternoons in a garden—two children laughing like old friends.
Igaris.
For an instant her chest tightened with loss.
I was happy once. How did everything become like this?
She shook off the image. Her voice remained steady, but a tremor quivered behind it.
"I acted in the best interests of the house. If that is not enough, decide my worth as you see fit." she added coldly.
Whispers filled the hall again. Her father’s expression hardened, yet disappointment lingered in his eyes.
But, once again, Aluna was seeing Igaris happy face, like an illusion.
"He is a rapist, a useless parasite. I have done nothing wrong by leaving him. So why does my heart feel heavier with every breath?"
No answer came from the watching faces. The truth, whatever it was, would have to be uncovered by her alone.
__
Far, far away from Guava City, Igaris was now traveling down a lonely road in an old car.
The vehicle’s technology might have been outdated, but the memories it carried were timeless.
It felt like just yesterday he had taken a trip with his family in this very car.
As those cherished moments replayed in his mind, his vision blurred with tears.
In the driver’s seat sat Jeffrey, the loyal butler of House Vance, guiding the car steadily while keeping a discreet eye on Igaris through the rearview mirror.
That very morning, his young master had returned from the World Dungeon—safe, sound.
Jeffrey had thanked every god he knew for such a miracle.
But the true shock came not from Igaris’s return, but the fact that he was no longer crippled.
It could only mean one thing: the young master had discovered a path that not only restored his body but possibly elevated it to an entirely new level.
And yet, joy was quickly overshadowed by urgency.
When Igaris spoke of going into hiding, Jeffrey understood immediately.
Something had happened in that other world—something serious enough to place Igaris on the radar of the Four Houses.
So without delay, they packed only what was necessary and set off on a journey toward a new, uncertain destination.
