Chapter 51: You’re Crazy

Chapter 51: You’re Crazy

"Babe, what the hell was that?" Tasha ran down the stairs to meet up with her husband.

"I got attacked by that fucking bitch!" He retorted, "That’s what happened! Barry got shot and is on his way to the hospital."

Tasha’s hand went to her mouth in shock.

"I told you that bitch is fucking crazy!"

"Mr Perez." A voice called and Dante turned just to see two police officers standing in the middle of the living room with a notebook and a pen.

"I know you’re distressed at the moment but I want you to answer some questions of ours if you don’t mind." The police officer said.

"Okay." He said and sat down on the couch while the police officers stood and asked some questions.

"Do you have any idea who attacked you this morning, sir?" The policeman asked.

"No, I don’t. " Dante answered.

"Did you or your wife alert us or the press that there’ll be an attack here?" The man asked again.

Dante and his wife exchanged glances. "No, we didn’t."

But Dante already knew who alerted them. It was Raven undoubtedly. She wanted this to circulate around town.

But his mind was already already working. He was going to turn this into an attack from an opposing party since he was running for governor. It would certainly work in his favor.

"Have you been receiving threats of any kind?" The man asked again.

"Yes," Dante answered and Tasha turned to stare at him in shock, albeit surreptitiously. "I have been receiving threats telling me to back off from the election or they’ll end me. At first, I thought it was just some stupid shenanigans... well... not until this morning."

"Hmm."

As Dante answered, the other policeman scribbled down in his notebook.

"Your assistant is injured and unconscious at the moment. Was the bullet meant for you?"

"Yes." He answered.

"We questioned your chauffeur and he made his statement." The man said, "He said you received a phone call and that you were pleading with whoever it was on the other end to accept your offer."

Dante wanted to clench his fist in anger, but if he did, the policemen would see it and think that there was more to this than meet the eye.

"Yes," He answered, his expression impassive. "I did plead with them, but it was only just to stall."

Other questions were asked and Dante answered. But he didn’t let the policemen know he was aware of who the attacker was. If he told them, people would put two and two together and associate him with Raven Moon, and he didn’t want that. He was going to take care of Raven Moon by himself!

Raven’s heart jolted furiously with fear as the policeman asked the question. But fear always didn’t last long on Raven. The faster it came, the faster it disappeared.

She gave the officer a deadly smile that made him shake in his boots.

He had never seen a delicate yet dangerous woman in his life before!

"And what if I am?" Raven asked, "What you gonna do?"

Adam, terrified out of his wits ignited the car engine and drove off.

For a moment, the police officer stood still and watched them drive away, but then he regained his composure and screamed at his fellow policemen.

"That’s Raven Moon!" He yelled running to the other officers, pointing at the driving car.

"What the hell do you mean?" One asked.

"It’s her!" He yelled, "Raven Moon, the murderer! The fugitive! She was the one who shot the gun!"

Without any other questions, the policemen boarded their cars and began chasing the driving vehicle with their sirens blaring loudly.

Adam gritted his teeth, glancing at the flashing red and blue lights in his rearview mirror. The wail of the sirens grew louder, but he didn’t panic.

"Stay calm!" He said to Raven who nodded in response.

Then he tightened his grip on the wheel, his foot pressing harder on the gas. The engine roared as he weaved through the city streets, darting between slower cars like a shadow slipping through cracks.

The police kept pace, but Adam knew the streets better than they did. A sharp right took him down a narrow alley, barely squeezing through as trash cans clattered behind him. The squad cars hesitated for a second—just enough time for Adam to push ahead.

A long, open stretch of road appeared in front of him. Perfect. He shifted gears and floored it. His car shot forward, tires screeching as the speedometer climbed. The cops were fast, but they weren’t fast enough.

Up ahead, a red light. Cross traffic. No time to stop. Adam made a split-second decision—he yanked the wheel left and skidded into a side street, tires burning rubber as the police tried to follow. One car overshot the turn, slamming into a parked vehicle. Another barely made it, struggling to keep up.

Adam smirked. They were good, but he was better.

The highway was coming up. If he could make it there, he could disappear. But the cops weren’t giving up. More sirens echoed in the distance. Roadblocks were ahead.

Time for the final move.

He spotted a construction site to his right—a half-built ramp leading nowhere. It was risky, but the risk was all he had left. Without hesitation, Adam yanked the wheel and aimed straight for it.

"Wait! Wait! You’re not gonna make it!" Raven yelled, clutching the seat belt tightly. "You’re not gonna make it!"

The car hit the incline at full speed, launching into the air just as the police reached the site. For a brief second, Adam felt weightless, his car soaring over the unfinished bridge. Then—boom! He landed hard on the other side, tires screaming as he regained control.

Behind him, the cops skidded to a stop. No way they were making that jump.

Raven, hyperventilating, stared at Adam in shock.

"You’re crazy, you know that?!" She yelled at him, but not with anger but with admiration.

"Yeah, I got my craziness from you." He replied, "You’ve grown on me."

Adam started the engine, laughing at Raven’s face, and then drove off. He was already gone.
