Chapter 49: Bodyguards
Chapter 49: Bodyguards
Dante didn’t like the mien of his wife. He had expected her to be understanding and less judgy... but here she was, with that expression on her face.
"Babe... are you okay?" He asked worriedly.
"Well... yeah... I... I uh..." She stumbled for the right word, "I’m just... shocked. I mean... you did that?"
She still didn’t even believe it.
"I know what I did was wrong, and nothing I ever say will rectify my mistakes, but I really regret what I did. It was so horrible of me."
"So that lady had a good for murdering all those people."
"What?"
"I mean... she was sexually assaulted, her mother and younger sibling died. If I went through that I don’t think I’d still have the will to live." Tasha said slowly.
"Wait... are you seriously supporting her?" Dante asked, surprised, "She’s a murderer."
"And whose fault is that?" Tasha retorted.
"Seriously? Tasha, this girl is a murderer, currently wanted by both the police and the FBI. Even if she had to go through what she did, nothing ever justifies murder."
"You sound like a hypocrite, you know that?" Tasha asked rising to her feet.
"This mad girl is coming for us. We should be making plans on how to keep us safe, we should be making plans on how to stop this girl, not fighting over it." Dante said, equally getting to his feet.
He hadn’t expected this reaction from his wife.
"Maybe if you hadn’t done what you did back then, none of this would have happened!" Tasha fired back, "I thought I knew you, but I obviously don’t. I’m taking Hollen and Maya away from here. I can’t afford to leave them here."
"You think you’re safe anywhere you go?" Dante fired, already getting fed up with this conversation. "She’ll hunt you. That bitch is crazy! Anywhere you go, she’ll find you and she’ll use you to get to me. I’m sorry, Tasha. But I’m not letting you leave this house."
"What?" Tasha asked obviously shocked.
"You’re not leaving this house, Tasha, and that’s that. The kids will be homeschooled.... They can’t afford to go to school. Lara’s kid was also abducted at her school. I’ll hire a teacher."
"You can’t be serious!"
"I hope you bear with me, Tasha till I capture this girl." Dante said, "I’m hiring more guards today. I really hoped that you, of all people, would get to understand me. But I was clearly mistaken."
And then with that, he walked off, leaving Tasha stunned. Throughout the whole seven years of their marriage, they haven’t had such a heated argument before.
Tasha felt that this wasn’t the same man she had fallen in love with. This wasn’t the same man she knew.
She inhaled and heaved out a slow deep breath.

The Next Day
By morning, Perez Mansion was swarming with cars. Hefty men dressed in dark suits, their expression unfriendly, their facial attributes horrible.
These were men who had gone to war in their time and had come back with scars and wounds. Just one look at them, one would be horribly terrified out of their wits.
They were the bodyguards that had been recently hired by Dante Perez. He wanted to ensure that there would be no entrance into his home. All the men were explicitly ordered not to allow anyone in, no matter who or what they claimed they were.
All of the men were dispersed all around the corner of the house. Not even a rat could enter the mansion without being noticed by the bodyguards.
Tasha, on the other hand, didn’t like this. Not one bit. She wasn’t sure if she was going to be comfortable with all these men all around the house.
"Babe, what is this madness for fuck’s sake!" She yelled at Dante when she dragged him to the corner of the house. "This is total madness! I can’t go anywhere without seeing one of these men! I definitely do not like this! Even the kids are terrified out of their wits! They’re scared to even come out of their room because of these men!"
"It’s all for the best, sweetie." Dante replied, " I thought we had this conversation yesterday. It’s better the kids are terrified but safe rather than them being not terrified but unsafe!"
Tasha rubbed her forehead in frustration. This was definitely not getting her anywhere. She tried to use a softer tone.
"Babe..." She called out, reaching for Dante’s hand. She squeezed them in hers as she gave him the puppy look. "Please... beg her for forgiveness. There must be something she wants you to do. Please... do it. Then we can have peace."
Dante jerked his hand away. "I’m not doing that. She’s out for my blood and I’m out for hers. I’ll find her ... and end her."
Then with that, Dante walked off.
Now, Tasha was getting really scared. This isn’t the Dante she married. This was someone else. She was determined to come up with a way for her to escape this mansion... even if that’s the last thing she does.
Dante was already dressed and ready to head for the office. He felt terrified leaving his family here, in the hands of these strangers, but this was the time of the election, and his schedule was packed. Besides, his wife and kids would be safe in the hands of this man.
"I’ll get going now." He said, trying to kiss Tasha goodbye as he always does but she jerked her head to the side, avoiding the kiss.
Dante pressed his lips in a thin line. "I hope you know I’m doing this for us."
Then he crouched down and kissed his kids. "Daddy will be back okay?"
The kids nodded.
He stood to his feet and glanced at his wife once more before heading out.
He got into the car, with Barry Gaines sitting beside him. The chauffeur drove off, with the three cars of entourage trailing behind him.
Just as the cars got out of the building, they heard a gunshot, followed by the bursting of tires.
"Holy shit!" Dante exclaimed ducking down on the car, along with Barry and the chauffeur.
"What the fuck was that?"
