Chapter 32: Girlfriend?

Only Larry’s smile alone made Raven so uneasy. It was official, Larry was unhinged. He had a screw loose.

Well, it was only expectable.

He and Lara were monsters. The monsters their dad created.

Being abandoned at a young age by their mom, raised by a nanny who didn’t care a dime about them, and always abused by their father whenever they didn’t meet up to expectations.

Their home was hell, even if they had all the money in the world.

That was the reason Lara had decided to pick on Raven.

But being abused doesn’t give anyone the right to take out their frustrations on other people weaker than them.

"Uh... okay." Raven said, "I’m sorry. I was nosy. Should we continue please?"

"Are you afraid of me?" Larry asked, "Do you also think I’m the devil like the rest of them?"

"Um... I don’t know sir." Raven shrugged shyly, "I just personally met you a few hours ago, so I don’t really have any thoughts about you. I’m just here to work as your temporary assistant, sir. But since you’re a famous CEO, I can tell from what I’ve been seeing on the news that you’re a hardworking, inspirational man that our youth should look up to. So I think you’re cool."

It even sounded weird in Raven’s ears as she said that. But she felt that since her charm couldn’t work, flattery might.

Larry regarded Raven for a while before nodding, "Okay. Let’s continue."

They spent the next few minutes reviewing the contract. Raven asked for clarifications in some clauses, and they were answered by Larry.

Then they were done.

"That’s all then." Larry said, "If you impress me today, then I’ll cosign."

"Thank you, Sir."

"Now get to work," Larry said.

Raven got to her feet and moved to the door.

"Oh! One more thing!" Larry said, stopping Raven in her tracks.

She turned, "Yes?"

"Before Perry’s accident, he was handling a mob."

"Huh?"

"The guys that are searching for the bitch that murdered my sister."

"Oh!"

"You’re to visit them today and give them a deadline. The police are useless! How is it so hard to find one goddamn bitch!"

"Oh! Okay." Raven smiled deceptively, "I will visit them tonight."

And then she left to the outer office and buried herself in work.

Even though she didn’t finish college, she was awesome at doing secretary jobs. And besides, she hadn’t spent the last ten years doing nothing.

A few hours later, it was getting late, and employees were clocking out.

Raven carried the reports to Larry’s office and then stood as he analyzed her reports.

They were all neatly done.

Larry nodded his approval. "I don’t normally give out compliments, but I gotta, but I gotta say, you did a pretty good job."

Raven smiled shyly, "Thank you, sir."

There and then, Larry cosigned, "Welcome to Kins Corp, Holly Pringle."

"I’m honored, sir." Raven said, "I’ll definitely do my best."

Everyone had already gone home for the day, so it was just the both of them.

"It’s getting late," Larry said, getting to his feet as he grabbed his jacket. "I have a date."

He put on his jacket and threw his suitcase at Raven who caught it.

Then they headed out.

Outside, the chauffeur was already waiting for them.

Larry got in. But when Raven was about to do the same, he stopped her.

"Huh? I thought I was to escort you home." Raven said in surprise because the contract stated she always escorted him home.

"That’s if I’m going home." Larry replied, "I’m going on a date. So you should go home, Holly. Don’t be late tomorrow." Then he took the suitcase from her, "Drive to Glow Restaurant." He ordered the chauffeur.

"Yes sir." The chauffeur answered before driving off

Raven stood, watching the car drive away.

"A date huh?"

She hailed a cab. But she didn’t drive to Glow Restaurant first, she drove to the mall.

There she changed. When she came out, she wasn’t looking Holly-like. She was looking like herself. The red wig was gone, the freckles, the prosthetic... she had taken everything off. Even if Larry saw her now, he wouldn’t recognize her.

Then she drove to Glow Restaurant. There, she found Larry, sitting on a table on the far end of the restaurant that overlooked the city.

He was obviously waiting for someone.

Raven sat at a table by the entrance where Larry wouldn’t even bother to look. She ordered a drink and then observed.

A few minutes later, she saw Larry’s face lighten up... she didn’t know he could smile.

He waved at a lady who had just entered the restaurant. Raven turned just to see that the lady was a famous supermodel, Millie Hogan. She was tall, stunning, and had those slender, long, sunburned legs that were typical of models, with her hair lying on her exposed shoulders.

She was wearing a flare pink strappy dress that exposed her cleavage, matching it with a handbag and heels.

Raven quickly stood up with the drink in her hand, intentionally bumping into her and spilling the drink on the model’s clothes.

"What the hell?!" Millie gasped in utter annoyance. "Are you blind? Can’t you look where you’re fucking going?"

Raven dropped the glass on her table, gasping in feigned shock, "Oh my God! I’m terribly sorry, I wasn’t looking."

"How can you not see me?" Millie yelled at her, dropping her handbag on the table as Raven offered her some tissues.

"I’m terribly sorry." Raven kept apologizing.

She grabbed Millie’s handbag and began to wipe the drink that had spilled on it. She had the opportunity to slide a bug into her handbag so she could listen in on the conversation she was to have with Larry.

But her questions were answered when Larry came over, "Babe, what’s the matter?"

Raven’s eyes popped out. Babe? Larry had a girlfriend? Since when?

She had meticulously done her research about her predators so how could she not know that he had a girlfriend?

"It’s this stupid bitch!" Millie replied, "She spilled a drink on me!"

Everyone in the restaurant was already staring at them.

"You’re causing a scene..."

"Causing a scene...?"

"I’m really sorry Sir." Raven apologized dramatically in a voice Larry wouldn’t recognize, "I really didn’t see her!"

’It’s okay."

Larry grabbed Millie by her arm and led her to their table.

Raven paid for her drink and immediately left.

She put on her earbuds and then began to listen.
