Race With a Heart -
Chapter 81: Too Good To Be True
Chapter 81: Too Good To Be True
Martin’s heart was beating wildly. He couldn’t believe the truth of the words he was hearing. It was too good to be true, and usually when something is too good for truth it turns out to be a dream.
But he felt the warmth on his face, Paxton’s big hands that held him in a firm embrace, and the driver’s dark eyes flickered with beautiful lights of hope.
If this is a dream, Martin never wants to wake up again. If this is a dream, Martin wants to stay in it forever. He took a deep breath and replied:
"Yes," he confirmed. "Yes of course!"
Steve’s reaction was sudden and unexpected. The driver released his face and hugged him with as much force as if he wanted to crush him in his arms.
"Thank you," he whispered in an emotional voice. "Thank you Martin! I’ll be the best boyfriend in the world for you! I promise! I know I don’t deserve you, but I’ll do my best to be worthy of your love! "
"Steve ... What are you saying?"
Martin felt a twinge of pain in his heart again. It pained him that this wonderfully beautiful dear man had such a low self-esteem - him, the wonderful Steve Paxton, who was working wonders on the track!
"Steve, I love you just the way you are. This is not a fan’s blind love. Not anymore. I know Hannah’s story. I know that you are still very hard and very sad. But I ... I think you treat yourself so hard that you don’t see what kind of person you really are. The only thing you have broken about yourself is your approach to yourself. You don’t see how many people care about you. You really are much better than you think and I’ll show it to you! "
The grip loosened, and Paxton slowly released him completely. Martin was afraid the driver would run away, but Steve took his face in his hands again and gently, tenderly kissed his hair-covered forehead.
"Thank you," he repeated quietly, and suddenly he was back to reality. "Aren’t you cold? This floor is freezing cold. "
"I didn’t notice," said Martin quietly. He was so busy with Steve that he didn’t have time to pay attention to such little things. Now that Paxton had told him about it, the boy actually felt the floor felt cold.
Martin got up and dusted his knees. He did so so vigorously that he staggered, but was immediately grabbed by Steve’s strong arms. The mechanic looked into his eyes and shuddered. He felt as if he was consumed by their fascinating depth, in which, however, there was no longer this almost demonic darkness. Instead, there was a passion and love that Paxton’s mouth did not tell, but that the boy felt emanating from the entire silhouette of the driver. Martin’s heart leapt up happily.
They hadn’t moved for a few long moments, staring into their eyes, captivated by their closeness. For the first time, feeling that there is more to them than just physical desire. Something that made them hear each other’s heartbeat.
The tension between them was so strong that Martin couldn’t bear it.
"You were wonderful on the track," he announced, tearing slightly.
"So I heard," Steve admitted. Then he added, "Would you like to come with me for a beer, or maybe ... we’ll go straight to you?"
"I also have beer in my fridge ..."
"Compromise is sometimes the best solution ..."
Even so, they were still motionless, staring into each other’s eyes as if hypnotized.
"I think we should move," Steve suggested, but he didn’t even flinch.
"Yes," agreed Martin. "Why don’t you let me go?" he suggested.
"What? Ah yes!" Paxton smiled sheepishly, released him, and stepped back, embarrassed, scratching his head. "Sorry."
Martin shook his head.
"It was pretty nice," he admitted. Suddenly, for some reason, he took Paxton’s hand. It was as if he wanted to maintain physical contact with him.
Paxton smiled. He smiled broadly, naturally, sincerely. Then he laughed. He suddenly looked like a young boy excited about the gift he had been given.
"Phew!" he suddenly blurted out of his mouth. "I had no idea I would be so relieved! I had no idea when I finally told you what I wanted and that when I heard your answer, I would be so light on my heart! I guess that’s how a boy feels when a girl accepts his proposal. "
Martin, flushed, slapped him lightly on the shoulder. A proposal may be an exaggeration, but Martin must have known how a boy asks a girl to be his girlfriend felt. Now he had the opportunity to feel the emotions of the other side, the one being asked, and he had to admit that they were just as big and just as overwhelming.
And it is also joyful when you could answer ’yes’ to the proposal of a man you love.
"Let’s go to me now," he asked. "I want to be with you, but not here. Someone may accidentally see us and ... "
"Do not be afraid, I will protect you from all evil. But yes, let’s go to you," he agreed. "I want you so much ..."
Martin knew Steve was actually willing to do anything to protect him. He remembered Paxton dropping into the auto repair shop to free Martin from the gangsters. There were five of them, big thugs, one of whom threatened the boy with a knife, but Steve was not scared. He boldly moved between them, knocked one down and overpowered the other, the most important. He was like a hurricane that destroys everything in the way to his lover. He was fucking impressive. And terrifying. It was enough for one false move and Steve himself would be in mortal danger.
Therefore, Martin would never count on Paxton to save him from any oppression. He himself will become strong enough to fight for himself and for Steve. Like he did when Don Alston showed up and threatened to divulge their secret. Okay, Jack helped him then, but Martin was already richer in this experience and would have done better in a similar situation. But until he is quite strong, the best way to get out of trouble is to avoid it. Therefore, instead of continuing here where everyone could see them, Martin preferred to go to his apartment, where safe within its four walls they could do whatever they liked.
And for the first time, they will be doing it as a couple.
Martin still couldn’t believe it was all happening. The road to his home was like a dream. Although Steve gave him a ride quite often, he wasn’t doing it now as a sullen workmate who wanted to have sex. Now he was doing it as Martin’s wonderfully beautiful, a bit intimidated but very horny boyfriend.
The young mechanic was amazed at his luck, but at the same time he felt a great uncertainty and anxiety in his heart. Steve finally decided to give them a chance, try to open up to Martin, but what if Martin doesn’t live up to his expectations? What if halfway through, Paxton again decides he has no right to be emotionally involved and withdraws?
Both thoughts were terrifying and Martin tried to suppress them but couldn’t. All he could do was make a promise to himself that he would try as hard as he could to make Paxton feel comfortable with him and their relationship. It will probably not be easy for them, but patience, understanding and love can even tame a wild animal, let alone Steve Paxton! The young mechanic did not feel like an animal slayer, but he was dealing with a man who longed for love, but did not believe that he deserved it. It should be easier to deal with than with a lion or a tiger.
Or more difficult, because animals are guided only by their instinct, and man still has an intellect that can tell him the truth, but can also drive irrational fears into his subconscious. Martin was no scholar, but his experience with Steve taught him that the driver really doesn’t believe in his right to happiness. The fact that he offered Martin a change in their relationship was very surprising. Therefore, the boy felt that these events were unreal and prayed that it would not be just a dream.
Steve was indeed with him all the way and hurriedly accompanied him as they walked up the stairs to Martin’s apartment. He was there when they stepped in and began kissing and caressing each other hard and passionately, as if they had been fasting for at least a year.
Martin was just getting his hands on Paxton’s belt when the phone rang in the driver’s pocket. The phone ringing was completely ignored by them. As soon as he was silent, the phone rang again. But they did not want to answer. However, on one attempt, Martin could not stand it.
"He’s so insistent, maybe it’s something important?"
Paxton irritably took out his phone.
"It’s just Karl," he announced and rejected the call. He even wanted to turn off the phone. Walton called again.
"Karl is your boss," remarked Martin.
"But now I’m after work."
"He is calling so insistently, maybe something happened?"
Steve shook his head irritably. Walton definitely spoiled his mood.
"Yes?" took the call for the sake of Martin’s peace of mind.
"Steve, thank God you picked up! Where are you?"
"At friend. I’m a little busy, you understand," he grunted knowingly.
"Oh, I’m sorry, but ... are you okay?"
"At best. It’s very urgent or can we talk tomorrow? "
"We can talk tomorrow. Have fun."
"I’m going to," Steve announced and ended the call. He smiled warmly at Martin and was about to turn off the phone so that no one would disturb them again when he saw that he had received a text message from an unknown number. He thought it was spam, but for the sake of peace of mind he read it and turned pale.
’Your romance with the Mechanic may cease to be a secret. Get 10K cash ready. Today at 9 p.m. ... ’ the address of the meeting was given.
Steve re-read ’Your romance with the Mechanic may cease to be a secret’ and felt his blood turn to ice.
