Chapter 205: A Worry Can be Healed by ... Another Worry?
Jack should be pleased with another victory on a track, while Kevin’s partner looked as if he was in mourning. Moore looked a little worried.
"Did something happen?" He asked.
Today Kevin had a very light day, so he managed to pick up Lambert at the airport. He was looking for Martin and Steve as well, but Jack just shook his head and said, "Let’s go!" There was no point in arguing. The two are definitely busy with each other, and Moore should focus on his man.
At the airport, Kevin sensed something was wrong with Jack’s mood, but asked him at home, where they could both talk comfortably.
Lambert hugged him without taking off his jacket. He has always been a strong and cheerful man, but even he once in a while had moments when he needed support and comfort. Today was one of these moments, it seemed.
Moore gently stroked his head. Though his heart ached over Lambert’s suffering, he was glad to be here for him. So Kevin didn’t repeat the question, just let Jack lean on him for as long as he needed to. How many minutes did it take? Two? Three? Ten? It wasn’t important. The important thing was that Moore could now be there for his man who really did look like he needed support. So Kevin passed on to him all the love he had in him.
"Thank you." Jack glided away from him smiling faintly. He seemed to be feeling better now. "I charged my energy."
"Is that all I am for you? Charger?" Kevin joked.
"Exactly" Lambert began to take off his jacket and boots. "We have to do something for you to come to competitions with me. Maybe I’ll smuggle you in a suitcase?"
"And what, chargers cannot be taken out of the country? Do you have to smuggle them?"
Jack did not take up the teasing challenge. He just smiled faintly. He really looked like something was teasing his heart. Something in the stable.
Jack’s smile faded slowly as he looked at Kevin. Eventually he turned completely pale.
"Steve is sick. It cannot participate in races. He is... out of racetrack. Perhaps permanently."
This news came as a real surprise to Moore.
"It’s something serious?" he asked feeling real anxiety.
"He will live, but... For a racing driver, it’s like a death sentence. I’m afraid he’ll have a hard time taking it mentally. He acted as if he was about to fall apart. Kevin... I’ve seen Steve struggle with whatever life throws at him. I’ve seen him drink so as not to feel pain, get into fights, go to bed with random girls... I’m scared, really scared that this one punch is too much for him. I am afraid it will be even worse this time. "
"But now Steve has Martin ..."
"He left him and disappeared. He left. Alone."
At that moment, Moore felt a very unpleasant pain in his heart. He felt a very distinct unease.
Everyone is able to endure a certain dose of suffering and injustice. This is necessary because everyone’s life is strewn with difficulties. Some say suffering ennobles, and yes, it did, but when people’s heart suffered too much suffering, it could go two ways - either break down the man or make him struggle to turn a person into someone he wasn’t before. Either way, excessive suffering kills the man he was and creates someone new.
The young professor had seen too many victims broken by force so much that they could no longer stand on their own legs. He also saw some who began to rebel against an injustice that their hearts could no longer bear, and began to create their own justice. Both types plunged into darkness.
This darkness was already in Paxton. Kevin saw her clearly after Steve was stabbed and became a suspect in the Rita Evans murder. There was an unusually deep blackness in his eyes, in which some terrible demon lived. Such disgusting monsters are extremely difficult to tame, and their favorite food is pain and hopelessness. Steve by some unimaginable force of will locked this monster in the dungeon, but each subsequent blow on Paxton made the demon grow stronger and the walls that bound him were getting weaker and weaker.
"How did he ’leave him’?" Moore was trying to find out. "He broke up with Martin?"
Jack shook his head helplessly. He went deeper into the apartment and sat down heavily on a beautiful old leather sofa.
Kevin saw that his beloved man was having a really hard time with the Paxton situation. After all, Steve was like a younger brother to him during the rebellious teenage times. Thanks to Martin, Paxton has gotten calmer, but now, in his most difficult moments, he has left Martin behind. Did he really break up with him?
Lambert sighed heavily.
"I don’t know if he broke up with Martin," he replied. "Martin pretends nothing has happened but is in pain, I can see it clearly. He smiles, even laughs, but there is no joy in him. He avoids me as if he is afraid that I will ask him a question he won’t answer. Today, at the airport, he deliberately went the other way so that he wouldn’t have to come back with me. I’m worried about him too. Damn it! I know I’m totally helpless right now that I can’t help to deal with the problems in between them, and it really pisses me off! Kevin, please tell me good news. Tell me that at least everything was fine with you, that the party was successful ... "
"It was successful," Moore smiled warmly. "Nobody asked me personal questions, me and my father weren’t at each other’s throats, but someone wanted to pick me up."
Jack narrowed his eyes, and Moore knew his attention was slowly diverting from anxiety about his friends in the stable towards anxiety about his own happiness.
"Was she pretty?" He asked.
"HE was cute. He is considered one of the most beautiful and attractive actors in Shakespeare’s theater."
"Actor?!" Jack suddenly jumped up from his seat, but quickly realized how stupid he was acting in jealousy, grunted and decided that since he was up, he might as well go to the kitchen. "Hmm, I’m not surprised he wanted to pick you up. You are a very attractive man... "
"Um, I guess I really am," Kevin admitted thoughtfully. "I never thought about it before, but I can actually appeal to guys."
Lambert definitely did not like his statement, yet Jack tried hard and courageously to continue to pretend that everything was fine and that he was not jealous at all.
"And how did you like being hit on by another guy?" he asked in a seemingly indifferent tone.
"The experience was ..." Kevin lowered his voice significantly. Jack, concerned, stopped on his way to the kitchen and turned to his boyfriend.
"What?" he urged, looking forward to the answer.
Moore couldn’t tease him anymore. Although he was worried about Martin and Steve, he smiled broadly. It was at times when others were having a crisis in their relationship that it was important to make your own relationship stronger.
"Far from the pleasure it gives me when you hit me on. For me, as my life partner, only you are the only option. As for the one-night stand or short romances ... "
Kevin watched Jack’s eyes widen with anxiety or maybe jealousy. The driver was clearly concerned about his suggestion that Moore might have a little affair with another man.
"As for the one-night stand ...?" Lambert repeated thoughtlessly, looking straight into his lover’s eyes.
"As for the one-night stand, I don’t need any having you. Who would have the strength to romance when sex with you is like lifting weights while running a marathon? Seriously, Jack, sex is good for your health, but with you I will crash out of exhaustion. And would I have another lover to think about? Never."
"Never?" Lambert smiled in satisfaction.
"Never," Moore admitted. "If you abandon me one day, I will not be touched by any man. I will take a wife so that my father will stop bothering me and I will devote myself completely to scientific work. "
"Really?"
"Why don’t you believe me so much? How can I convince you?"
Jack clearly swallowed hard, as evidenced by the movement of his Adam’s apple. His gaze, a little shyly, began to move down Kevin’s body ...
