Race With a Heart -
Chapter 125: Some Things are Simpler, Others a Little Less
Chapter 125: Some Things are Simpler, Others a Little Less
Although Karl did not want to do this, he had to agree with his fiancée. The metaphor she used got to him because it spoke the language of racing.
Many parents instruct their children not to drive too fast. Mothers’ hearts trembled as their sons became racing drivers. The sport was safe, yet their hearts trembled. Some have explicitly asked that their sons withdraw from the sport. There were also those that put kids out of their dreams of racing early enough so that they would never try their chances. These boys never got behind the wheel of a racing car, and perhaps the world will never see a true champion who turned into a bank clerk because of his mother’s fears.
Karl acted exactly like these mothers. The problem was, he wasn’t Steve’s mommy. So why the hell was he interfering so much with his private life?
This was because Paxton one day, quite suddenly, found himself in such an emotional state that he couldn’t take care of himself. So, whether he wanted to or not, Karl assumed the role of his guardian. He made sure Steve took his medication regularly, ate decent meals instead of drinking alcohol, and slept in a hotel room instead of some random lair. It was he who persuaded him to come back to the track and get him a job at the Fergus Stables. For a time, Karl was Paxton’s mother, father, boss, and only friend. He was the only man in his life.
And now Martin appeared in it, a barely twenty-year-old half-orphan boy who had barely graduated from high school, currently had no interesting prospects in life. How would someone like that handle when Steve has anxiety returning? This naive kid won’t be able to do anything but sit in the corner of the room and cry. They will both be lost and unhappy.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Walton took a deep breath. He was convinced that Martin was not a good partner for Steve, but Anna was right, Steve had to try, and apparently Martin was the first person to make him feel like this. So even if Martin is not the perfect choice, he is the only choice at this point and therefore has to be accepted. As a longtime friend of Paxton, Karl can give him some tips on how to survive a sudden crisis and how to deal with the driver’s mood. Although probably the latter problem, Martin had already mastered.
"I understand what you mean," Walton told his fiancée, "and I know you are right. I’m just too tired to think about it today. I assured Steve I wouldn’t stand in their way, but it would take me more than five minutes to really accept their relationship. "
"I’m proud of you," Anna announced and moved closer to him. "Hope you learn from Steve’s case, and when our daughter wants to go out with some punk, you won’t mind."
"For our daughter I will choose a husband in the cradle and he will be the eldest legal son of some millionaire with little chance of bankruptcy!"
"You sound like a real loving daddy. So what, we will try to get a baby girl today? "
"I’m tired, but not enough to refuse such a tempting offer. Let’s make a little Esmeralda today ... "

"Can you do something about that face of yours? It’s depressing," Steve complained.
Martin finally looked up at him with bright eyes. The young mechanic looked more depressed than the situation required. Steve didn’t want to see the boy worrying unnecessarily, but he had to admit that he was enjoying his concern.
"Sorry," Martin said helplessly.
"What are you really worried about? I am not dying. "
"No, but your starts ..."
His racing starts ... Steve would be lying if he said he didn’t care about them, that he felt no pain at the thought that he wouldn’t be able to compete for a while, but since the situation was out of his control, it didn’t make any sense to worry. Paxton knew that if he succumbed to sadness, it would be easier for him to fall into a black hole than to reach for the sun.
"They’re just starts." Steve reached for Martin’s face and gently stroked his cheek.
The boy blushed at his touch and his eyes were dangerously inflamed with passion. Martin’s skin was so soft and warm that Paxton had to take his hand away, otherwise he risked tearing his stitches, which in turn risked a longer stay in the hospital, which he didn’t want for any treasures of China or Persia.
"Anyway," added Steve, "I’ve already figured out the entertainment for this time, so you don’t have to worry about getting bored."
"Entertainment?" Martin’s eyes flashed with interest. "What did you come up with?"
Steve decided that his idea would be very interesting for Martin and would surely surprise the young mechanic, but for now it should remain undisclosed. He didn’t want to give Martin hope when not everything was buttoned up yet.
"I’ll tell you when everything is taken care of. Rather, tell me what’s going on in your work. Did you say hello to our friend convertible? "
Martin blushed even more, and Steve regretted asking the question because he was clearly feeling its effects between his legs. Maybe he’d been beaten, stabbed, and stuffed with drugs, but everything was fine down there, and even better than fine.
"I did say hello," the young mechanic replied boldly, which with his blush of shame was an absolutely beautiful and delightful contradiction. "He said hello to you and said he’d love to see you in action again!"
Hell, the kid was getting brazen. Or was he always like that?
It is very likely that Martin has always had such daring in him. After all, as a teenager he rode races and it would be impossible if he lacked courage. To Steve, the boy seemed sweet, innocent and gentle, but Martin had proven more than once that he could be bold and consistent in pursuing goals. This was how he broke through the resistance Steve had to their relationship.
Yes, Martin was bold, but now he seemed to have no fear at all. How will he react to Paxton taking up his game?
"Who knows? Maybe he will see me ... in action. "
Martin’s bravado was just for show, because the boy blushed so much that his face began to look like a crimson rose. He also began to look away. At that moment, he was unbelievably downright delightful, wonderfully charming!
Steve could hardly hold back the urge to grab Martin in his arms and do very naughty things with him.
"What?" Paxton smirked. "Are you starting to sweep?"
"No! Just..." Martin became sad again "Dave still doesn’t tolerate our relationship, so I don’t want to do anything where he can see us. "
They both knew their relationship would face adversity, but they didn’t expect it so soon. In fact, they probably avoided thoughts of any intolerance that might happen to them. Dave was a good, smiling teenager, but his violent when he heard news that Martin and Steve were a couple gave them a taste of what might still lie ahead. The world is full of good people who will not accept them.
"You know why he’s so against us?" Steve asked seriously. He knew that a younger colleague was important to Martin. "It’s religious reasons or ..."
"I don’t know." Martin shook his head. "We talked a bit today and he almost accepted us, but then he was firmly against. He thinks you have led me astray. "
"He’s right," Steve sighed, feeling guilty about Martin. "Considering how it started ..."
"Do you ... remember everything about our first night?" Martin asked carefully." Not only the general situation, but ... details?"
Paxton sighed and looked at the tips of his toes under the cover.
"Not everything," he admitted, "but enough. Enough to be ashamed of. "
"When we were at the hotel, I was paralyzed," Martin announced, "but not quite out of fear. I mean ... If it were someone else, I wouldn’t be so scared. I was afraid of what you were going to do to me because I didn’t think of you that way then, but if it were anyone else, I would have knocked out his teeth. But it was you and I couldn’t ... defend myself. "
"I used my idol position," Steve sighed bitterly. "Dave is right."
"Do you know how many fans dream of something like this? Don’t get me wrong, the point is... damn how do I say this... ?!
Martin was clearly frustrated. Steve looked at him carefully, curious to see what the boy would say about their first night.
"Sometimes we have fantasies about certain people," Martin began to say, as if choosing the words on the fly, "but when we actually face the possibility of doing it, we are overwhelmed and... and we don’t know whether we want to do it or not. Because it is so... unreal. But ... It’s not like I slept with you for a backstage pass or a concert ticket. You know what I mean?"
"Not really," Steve admitted.
Martin’s frustration grew even more. Then Paxton smiled warmly at him and touched his face again.
