Chapter 87: Why Do Commoners Like Me More Than Sharon?
Sharon’s POV—
The spider roared again and used its hands horizontally to attack. Until now, it was using vertical attacks. The trees were cut in half by its attacks. I jumped in the air and dodged its attack. It looks like it won’t gonna leave me.
Suddenly, the spider spit a web attack. I barely moved out of its way. The place where it hit, got instantly decimated. The trees were broken into pieces and a huge hole formed in the ground. A trickle of sweat dropped from my head.
This web attack is not used to trap the prey. It’s used as a giant hammer. Fuck! Not only I have to dodge its leg attacks but also, its spit attacks.
The spider attacked once more. I dodged it and focused on its attack. It attacked a few more times but I evaded it.
Dodging its attack, I realized something. The spit attack is something it can do more than once, but there is an issue. It is a single spit of webs. It was a dense network of webs coagulated to form a... single flexible rod like structure. All the webs in its body have superimposed on one another to form this. The rod is white in colour. Upon hit by moonlight, it glowed in dark. And the spider can retract it. One thing is certain, there is only a single web attack, which it can do for multiple number of times. Although, there is a loophole. The time taken by it to attack, and the time to retract its spit is same... but there is a small gap between attacking and retracting.
What I need is to, somehow let it attack one of its legs. Keeping that in mind, I tried to get closer to one of its legs without getting crushed by it.
The spider roared in irritation and tried to crush with its ’targeted’ leg. I evaded it and kept myself close to the ’targeted’ legs vicinity.
Retracting its spit, it tried to hit me with it but instead, it hit the ’targeted’ leg. As a result, its balance disrupted and started to collapse on the ground. Fuck! It might collapse on me!
I immediately geared myself up and jumped on a tree. If I use my speed, I won’t be able to avoid getting crushed. But if I jump from tree to tree, I might cover more distance.
With all my strength, I scaled optimum distance by jumping trees and hid behind a large rock.
The spider fell on the ground with a large thud. This shook the ground. Countless cracks appeared on the ground. The sudden change in air gave birth to gust which destroyed the near by trees. Dust flying made it difficult to keep my eyes open. Due to the strong gust, some small debris also flew and hit me.
After sometime, I opened my eyes and poked my head out of the rock to see if the spider can move or not.
The spider was... dead. Apparently, this mindless creature lost its calm in anger and couldn’t control itself. As a result, it used all its strength into one single attack. It was so powerful that it tore apart its ’targeted’ leg. The whole area was covered with green puss from its body. It makes sense as it was trying to protect its body with its legs. The abdomen portion was its weak point.
I sighed deeply. To an extent, I don’t want to deal with any one of these again. Let’s continue moving now.
As I walked further, I reached a field with no trees. There were numerous small plants and flowers, which had a beautiful silver lining along their outline.
Sensing no more danger, I walked into the field. This forest is so beautiful. It makes me feel that I am in a fairy tale. Although, it would be wrong
A dark fairy tale... should be correct.
It’s so gorgeous and lavishing, yet it contains a few parts which can be compared to a horror movie. Especially, the living organisms. Till now, I haven’t met any friendly being. Everyone wants to kill me.
Ok, am I am idiot?
Obviously, they want to kill me because that’s in their nature. Have I gone mad? For them, I am their prey.
Yet, I don’t dislike these fleeting things. For some these species may be something they fear, and for the remaining, they may be something akin to reality. These species show truth. A human’s strength is always limited. There will always be problems which will challenge their limit, whether or not, they can adapt themselves or not.
The moon hangs in the sky like the biggest jewel on the sky. It evokes a sense of self-satisfaction in the observer’s soul.
The fragrance of these flowers hit my nose as I plucked one and observed it. Its petals were delicate with intricate layers placed side by side, and one upon another. As I touched it, I felt as if I was touching a silk fabric. Its smell had an alluring effect on my senses as if it wanted to seduce me. The white colour added the charming effects in this flower’s essence.
Suddenly, a group of fireflies entered my view. They were illuminating the field with their light, challenging the moon’s undefeated waves. Yet, at the same time... they were enriching each other’s beauty.
Finding a spot, I say down. I don’t know whether the heavenly view seduced me or, I was tired. A firefly flew and sat on the flower in my hands. The petals were its throne, and my hand was its palace.
The firefly flew back to its swarm after I put the flower on the ground.
It’s time to move again.
Third POV—
Kelshin walked towards a group of maids and ordered them to clean his office.
"You people, would you clean my office again?" asked Kelshin, with a smile etched in his face.
The maids nodded and immediately went to his office. They admired his gentle nature very much. For them, he was the epitome of kindness.
Seeing those maids’ foolishness, Kelshin smirked and left his mansion.
Entering his private garden, Kelshin took a deep breath. He personally took care of his private garden as he believed it would be a disgrace to his father’s memory.
He ran his hand over some flowers and smiled. Being in this garden always made him believe that he was connecting with his father. Taking care of his garden was a treat to his tired soul.
"I knew, you would be here. Relishing again in your father’s memories."
Kelshin smiled, "Maybe. Taking care of this garden makes me feel good."
Uriel nodded his head and said, "Having a hobby is a good thing. It can help you release all your tension."
"Why are you here? At this point of time, you are usually found in your bed. Do you have to say something?"
Kelshin turned and observed Uriel’s expression.
Uriel had a hesitant expression on his face. He was a little bit afraid to break this news to Kelshin.
With a heavy voice, Uriel said, "I have a bad news."
Kelshin frowned slightly and then relaxed. He said, "My master, Suroralia... has betrayed me, right? I know that already," he laughed a bit, "I am not angry at all. So, don’t be worried."
Uriel sighed, "If you say so. I never thought she would betray so. Can I ask you something else?" Kelshin nodded his head, "I am confused about... the demon queen. Why hasn’t she given you the invitation? You helped her to catch the emperor, didn’t you?"
Kelshin closed his eyes in contemplation. The time had already passed and there was no news from Aerila. It seemed his fear had come true.
"It seems my plan has failed." Regret was evident in Kelshin’s eyes.
"You mean—"
"Either Sharon has escaped already or, Aerila has betrayed is as well. It wasn’t that shocking to me. She is an unstable person. Her goals were unclear from the very start."
Uriel was shocked. First Maria, then Suroralia and finally, Aerila. All of them had betrayed them... one after one. Although, Kelshin was neither shocked nor, angry. It was as if he knew that they might betray him.
"Uriel, do you know why commoners like me?" asked Kelshin. He wanted to Uriel’s thought about this.
Uriel’s brown eyes reflected confusion. He never expected Kelshin to ask this type of question to him.
"What do you want to know?" asked Uriel, with a soft tone.
Kelshin shrugged, "Just your thoughts, nothing else. Let me make this simple. Tell me, why do commoners like me more than Sharon? What’s the reason for this?"
Uriel replied, "Because of your image. You have created a very benevolent and honest image for yourself. Forget about commoners, even nobles like you. Whereas, the emperor lacks support of nobles and if, we talk about commoners... they do like her. But they like you more."
