Chapter 50: Leon Does His Work Well
Chapter 50: Leon Does His Work Well
Sharon’s POV—
"Your Majesty, you can go in," said Leon.
Both Maria and Kaerin looked at him with confusion in their eyes. They were sceptical about Leon’s capability.
Leon was not only my assistant but also, he was my most loyal subordinate. He was a master of torture. Torturing was like an art for him. His ability ’The Land Man’s Shadow’ was a mental-illusion type ability. With this, he can manipulate someone’s brain and thinking into his preference, making them think that the illusion in front of them is true. These illusions could be of anything. Due to this, the torturing becomes much easy and there is no use of physical force. Although, there is a downgrade to it. He needs someone’s approval for using his ability. It was a failsafe mechanism for Leon, if in case his powers go awry.
"You haven’t broken him, have you?" I asked him.
Leon shook his head in denial. "Your Majesty, be rest assured. I haven’t broken him."
I nodded and turned towards Maria and then Kaerin. I said, "Let’s go then." The three of us entered the cell again.
Heriedieck was sprawled on the floor. His eyes held akin to nothing. His filthy gaze fell on us when he raised his head.
"I-I... will answer y-your e-every question..." croaked out Heriedieck.
I said, "Good. If you had made this decision, it would have saved us from the trouble. There would have been no wastage of time. Well, let’s get to the point. Who is the real owner of Nightinshade?"
Heriedieck swallowed his saliva in hesitation. He replied, "Duke Kelshin Dimortyil is the real owner of the Nightinshade."
"How did the organisation start?"
"My f-father... and his father were the ones who had started it... back in twenty years ago."
"Is it a family business for the two of you? I didn’t know inheritance worked here as. Apart from his county, he gave you his pathetic thinking. What was your organisation’s main motive?"
"Our organisation motive was to use commoners for our own profit. We thought themselves as rogue dogs, who were roaming freely without masters. So, we... decided to be the one."
"What about the bombing plan? Did Kelshin know about it?"
"No... he didn’t."
"So, you are saying that you acted on your own."
"Yes."
I nodded and turned towards Maria. "Do you have anything to ask?"
Maria flinched at my words but slowly nodded her head. Glaring at Heriedieck, she asked, "Do you have anything to say about that bastard... Kelshin’s maid?"
Heriedieck shook his head in denial. "I don’t know," he replied. Maria didn’t say anything. She clenched her hands for a moment and immediately relaxed it.
A wave of pity passed through my eyes. I am sure she must be devastated. Her whole life must seem like a lie to her. The man, who she considered her saviour was a fraud and his son, her master was the one who used her for his own profit. Thinking this, my hatred for her decreased significantly. Although, it was still there.
"Will you tell all this in the court? I want you to confess all your crimes and Kelshin’s as well. Do that and I might spare your life," I said.
Heriedieck’s eyes widened. He stuttered, "Is t-that t-t-true?"
"Yes. Confess and maybe... I can grant this wish of yours. Pardoning is not a problem for you." I turned my back towards and started to walk towards the exit. Maria and Kaerin followed me as well. Just before leaving the cell, I said, "Think about it more carefully. You won’t have this chance again." With that, we left his cell and locked the door.
◆◇◆◇◆
Reaching my office, I took a seat in my chair. There was a look of triumph on my face. Even Kaerin and Maria were aware of my giddiness. Finally! I can get rid of my unwanted fiancé. Maybe I could end everything with this only. There would be no protagonist for me to feel threatened from.
’It’s over! There is no more ’cream buns.’ System, I won.’
[Until, you end this... I am not going to believe your words. Anything can happen at any time.]
’Fair enough. You will see my victory. And you will engrave it in your algorithm.’
[I will, if you keep your words that is.]
I don’t think Kelshin will be able to dodge this. He is going to get convicted.
"When are you going to break your engagement?" asked Kaerin. Her eyes held an enthusiastic layer in it and her tone was full of happiness.
"Soon, Kaerin," I turned towards Maria, "I want to ask you one thing."
"Go on," said Maria.
"What do you think about all of this? Now you are no longer his maid, and you have joined hands with me," I asked her.
Maria replied, "Betrayal... if that’s your question. I feel betrayed by them. My saviour was the one who ran the organisation from the shadows. I would have to commend him for his creativity. He orchestrated a very convincing act, one that trapped me for a very long time."
"Oh! Is that so?" mocked Kaerin.
"Yes. Do you have something to say?" sneered Maria.
"Nothing. I don’t have anything to say to you," Kaerin sneered back at her.
I sighed, "Can you please stop arguing? Are you two little kids? Why do you always need to fight each other?"
I don’t understand their need to fight each other. Can’t they at least be civil around me? Taking a deep breath, I continued, "Maria, you have proved your loyalty on me. Then again, you are my marker. So, at the very least... I don’t have any eminent danger from you. For now... I will trust you. But if you try to betray me..." I trailed off my words, leaving it on Maria to think whatever she wanted. Maybe she will be irritated from my words.
But Maria smiled widely. She kneeled on her knees and grabbed my hand. Putting a kiss on the back of my hand, she said, "Thank you! Thank you very much! I will not at all disappoint you."
Before I could say anything, Kaerin lifted me up and placed me on the table. She tore my dress’s chest region, freeing my breasts into the cold air.
