Chapter 102: Why Do These Villagers Hate Foreigners?
Third POV—
The village chief looked completely devasted. It was as if he had lost his will to live. That woman... that damn woman, killed everyone. She killed each and every of their soldier brutally. Never in his life, he had seen such a bloody sight. That monster... she... was sitting on his son’s corpse, and was giving him an innocent look. It was like she was just a bystander; without any knowledge of the carnage, she had done to their village. Her face was covered with their men’s blood.
"So, what’s your stand now? Do you still want to make me son’s ’slave?’ Aya, your son is... hmmm... dead?" said Sharon.
The man underneath her groaned in pain. Sharon turned her head towards him. She said, "Oh, he is still alive. My bad! Chief, you should hurry. If I were you, I would you hurry to save my son, whose legs are being pulled towards his death bed."
Did she think he would abandon his son? No, never! But then, why were his legs not moving forward? Why weren’t his legs listening to his command?
Sharon’s POV—
The village chief was standing with a complicated face. Tch, his face is similar to a person suffering from constipation.
"Let me make this easy for you. If you don’t move, I will kill your son. But if you move, I will spare your son’s life for your life. Wow, aren’t I a benevolent ruler? I am merciful, right?"
The village chief’s face lost all its colour. So, what is he going to choose?
He yelled, "What kind of sick person are you?!"
I snorted, "Am I sick? Hmmm... if you say so. But even if I am sick, I am still better than you and your entire village. Can you understand something, Chief? A single lie destroyed your village. A single judgement made your village incur my wrath. Why don’t you reflect it now? Your houses were destroyed in the crossfire. These villagers made you their leader, right? Be decisive! You are a leader, feel pride in it. Although, there is nothing for you to feel proud about. I have destroyed everything. Ah, I remembered something. Tell me, why do you hate foreigners?"
Suddenly I spotted the kid, Jaffer, who was trying to hide himself in the covers of the crowd. I whistled loudly, attracting his attention. Seeing him looking at me, I motioned for him to come towards me.
Flinching, he walked towards me with the speed of a turtle. I sneered and slammed my sword on the ground, creating a loud noise which made him walk faster. He stopped in front of me, with his gaze stuck on the ground.
"Lift your head, kid. I need you to tell the truth."
Trembling, Jaffer opened his mouth. He stuttered, "I-I... w-was l-lying. I-I was the... one who w-wanted... y-you to k-kiss me."
These words caused the villagers to erupt in anger.
"This bastard! He is really an unlucky child!"
"Because of him, our village was destroyed by her. Why did you lie to her?"
"It’s because he is a bastard! A fatherless child always turns like this."
Jaffer’s eyes glistened with tears. It looks like the villagers’ words cut his heart too deep.
"Do you really believe he is the one responsible for all of this?" I shook my head, "yes, he is a culprit... but he isn’t the main culprit. The main culprit is not a single person. And definitely, he is not this kid. People always need someone to blame for all their miseries. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what humans are. You are blaming a kid... this kid can’t even handle a single punch from me. Do you think if I kill him everything will be back to normal? No. It won’t change anything."
Jaffer sobbed, "I-I... a-am s-sorry..."
I gave him a silent look and didn’t respond to his words. Instead, I turned towards the chief and asked, "So? What’s your decision? Oh my! You haven’t taken a single step till now. Don’t you love your son?" I stabbed his thigh with a dagger, "I am really sorry for you. It looks like your father doesn’t really love you. Ah, what a shame!"
The village chief said, "I-I d-don’t want to die. There will be another chance for me. Yes, I am still young and full of energy. I can impregnate any woman and have her give birth to my child—"
Before he could complete his words, I threw a dagger at his head, killing him instantly. His dead body fell on the ground with a thud.
"Oops! Both the father and son died at the same time, I guess. What a filial son! He held onto last breath until his father could die with him. My emotions are flowing like water. Ah! It’s really a touching story."
I looked at the villagers and said, "You chose this leader? I have to really applaud your choice."
Turning towards Jaffer, I said, "I have some questions for you. Will you answer them?"
Jaffer nodded frantically. He replied, "I will!"
"Why do these villagers hate foreigners?"
Jaffer looked stunned for a moment. But he immediately composed himself and answered, "A long time some foreigners came to our village and looted our village’s temple."
"What did they loot?"
"A relic of some sort. They even looted our houses, making our lives equivalent to hell."
I asked, "So, your villagers harboured hatred for every foreigner, those who didn’t know anything about your village’s ’history.’ What do you do with them?"
Jaffer hesitated for a moment before answering. "If the foreigner is a man, we killed him and if... it is a woman, we take her as our slave. In a specific day, we bid on them. The better a woman’s quality is, the higher she is sold. The village chief’s family takes all the good-looking woman. ’Premium goods’ is what they are called as."
"Continue, Jaffer. I think your village does something more, right?"
