Chapter 32: The Strict Camp Commander Huo_1
Chapter 32: Chapter 32: The Strict Camp Commander Huo_1
The passing soldiers all chose to keep their distance from the scene.
They felt that Commander Horne cared a lot about Miss Bluen, yet his demeanor was so cold it could freeze someone to death, leaving them utterly bewildered.
The distant soldiers didn’t want to miss this somewhat strange yet intriguing spectacle. Every one of them pricked up their ears like rabbits—long and sharp. Their eyes, keen as an eagle’s, could clearly make out Marcel Horne’s expressions from afar.
"One minute to get down here!" Marcel Horne’s face grew even tighter, his eyes deeper.
Everything around was deathly quiet, except for his commands echoing through the Military Camp Courtyard.
Marcel Horne was notoriously strict; how many soldiers hadn’t had a layer of skin peeled off by his tough training?
Ruby Bluen came back to her senses, her face still flushed red. She turned and hurried downstairs.
It was indeed her fault for littering!
Once in the Courtyard, she quickly squatted down and began picking up pieces of paper from the ground. But, as luck would have it, the wind kept blowing, scattering the pieces around, making it difficult for her to clean up.
Marcel Horne didn’t help, standing there like a mountain, his stern face devoid of any softness, though a trace of curiosity flickered in his deep eyes.
A soldier who often chatted with Ruby Bluen to keep her from feeling too bored couldn’t resist walking over to help her pick up the pieces. "Sis, let me help you," he offered.
"Andrew Carter, stand at attention right there!"
Marcel Horne’s cold voice suddenly rang out again.
The soldier who wanted to help, Andrew Carter, quickly stood at attention.
"At ease!"
Andrew Carter immediately relaxed.
"Right face!"
He promptly turned to his right.
"Run ten laps outside before you come back!"
Huh?
Andrew Carter, though confused, still responded loudly, "Yes, sir!"
Then he ran outside.
After that, no one dared to help Ruby Bluen pick up the paper.
Marcel Horne took a step and vanished from the Courtyard while Ruby Bluen continued to pick up the trash. By the time she had finally cleaned up, Marcel Horne was nowhere to be seen.
He’s clearly just trying to divert my attention! Ruby Bluen’s almond-shaped eyes lifted. A determined light flashed in them as she stared at the entrance of the Military Camp Courtyard, murmuring to herself, Marcel Horne, don’t think for a second you can drive me away! If you want me gone, you’ll have to leave with me!
She had run away from her wedding, abandoning everything to chase after him. If she didn’t get what she wanted, she wouldn’t leave.
Stubbornness was a trait shared among the Bluen sisters.
The plane ticket is torn. Let’s see if Marcel Horne still tries to send me away!
As long as she could stay in this Military Camp, she was confident she could successfully win her husband!
「Elsewhere:」
On a quiet afternoon, Julia Bluen once again sat by the small swimming pool on the rooftop of the Bluen family villa.
The families had all left, and Glades Horne had returned to Valence Group to deal with business matters.
She finally had some time to herself to quietly reflect.
The afternoon sun cast its light on the surface of the pool, and a gentle breeze caused it to glitter with ripples.
"Julia."
A warm, deep voice reached her. Chris Bluen sat down across from Julia.
Approaching sixty, Chris Bluen didn’t have the corpulent build common among other CEOs; he maintained a strong physique, neither fat nor thin. Dressed in a gray suit today, he retained the dapper elegance of his youth. His features weren’t as handsome as those of Glades Horne but were nonetheless well-proportioned. Julia’s eyes and brows bore a striking resemblance to his. His eyes were gentle, though at times they could flash with sharpness. In front of Julia, however, they were always filled with warmth.
"Dad," Julia called out and stood up, intending to go downstairs to get her father a drink.
Chris Bluen stopped her with a tender smile. "Julia, no need. I don’t want to drink anything; I had quite a bit of wine during lunch. Come, sit down. I just wanted to have a talk with you."
Julia returned and sat down again.
She looked at her father, not asking anything, just waiting for him to speak.
Gazing at his beloved youngest daughter, Chris Bluen’s face showed a touch of solemnity, his brows furrowed as if pondering something. After a long pause, he finally said softly, "Julia, your relationship with Glades... Are you sure he doesn’t see you as a substitute for your sister?"
He worried about the repercussions for the Bluen family if their ties with the Horne family were severed and they faced retaliation from Glades Horne. He was also concerned that Glades Horne might only see Julia as a stand-in for her older sister.
"Dad, don’t worry, I’ll be fine," Julia reassured him with a smile. She was confident Glades Horne did not see her as a substitute for her sister, yet this part perplexed her. Her three-year relationship with Nicholas Coldwell, though she had been forced to end it, was too recent; the pain still lingered in her heart like a knot. Glades Horne’s relationship with her sister had lasted even longer. Could he truly have moved on in just a few days? Yet, his affection for her felt so real, without a hint of pretense, as if she were the one he genuinely loved.
Chris Bluen wanted to say more. However, seeing the confidence on his daughter’s face and knowing her character—that she wouldn’t let herself be wronged—he ultimately didn’t pursue the topic further.
Chris Bluen changed the subject. Gazing deeply at Julia, he said in an instructive tone, "Julia, these are things your mother should be discussing with you, but I still want to say them personally. Being a daughter-in-law is different from being a daughter. Once you’re married into the Horne family, you must be filial to your parents-in-law and courteous to your sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. At home, be a good wife and daughter-in-law. Outside, as a lady of the Upper Class Society, you must be mindful of your words and actions. Not many in the upper echelons have met you. And while you dislike pretense, as a lady of the esteemed Horne family, you must carry yourself as such. You mustn’t lose your true self, but you also mustn’t bring shame upon your husband’s family..."
Like any parent, Chris Bluen couldn’t resist giving his daughter premarital guidance, instructing her on what to be mindful of after marriage.
No matter how much he adored his daughter, once she was married, she wasn’t just his daughter anymore.
She would also be someone else’s daughter-in-law and someone else’s wife, playing multiple roles.
