Chapter 74: Black Market... Meeting Old Madman...
Javil changed his clothes, then used mana to purify himself, and they quickly rushed out while he led the way. Kranos noted the direction as they walked. From the initially tree-filled academy, they slowly reached a sparse encirclement of trees.
At first, Kranos was stunned. However, he soon realized that when they reached a tree, Javil proceeded to dig the ground, then took out something and handed it to him. Kranos was curious, however, Javil explained before he could ask.
"These are the tokens. Without this, you can’t enter the black market, as it is located in a secret realm. Besides, you can only use this thrice, after which you will have to purchase another one," Javil said as he led Kranos out of the sparse forest.
Kranos finally understood why the buried tokens he saw numbered up to ten. He couldn’t help but be curious where Javil got these tokens. He glanced at the tokens, then at Javil. At the same time, he was also on guard in case it was a trap. At the slightest trace of anything going wrong, he would quickly flee with his life.
After he and Javil reached the vibrant trees once again, he led him to a different corner of the school. In front of the portal, two guards were stationed there. Seeing them, his expression tensed up slightly. However, as soon as they approached, the guards didn’t make things difficult for them.
"The entrance fee is 1000 merit points," one of the guards spoke, taking out a mana device. Even though Kranos was slightly stunned, he didn’t think too much about it. For the black market to still be existing to this day, the academy must have known about it for a long time but just chose to stay silent about it.
Javil also handed them the corresponding points. When they were done, the guards stepped aside and signalled for Kranos and Mark to enter the portal.
...
Kranos opened his eyes and realized that they had been transported to a different place. Glancing around, it seemed like a small city. He felt a burning sensation, and upon glancing at his palm, he realized that the token in his hand had cracked slightly.
Recalling what Javil said about its usage, he immediately guessed the reason. With two more uses, it should burst apart, he understood. He turned his attention to Javil with a curious look and asked, "Second brother, what should we do next?"
"Look for a guide," Javil said and began walking to a corner of the city where a group of people were gathered. Upon seeing Kranos and Javil, their eyes lit up, and they immediately started speaking up.
"Young man, for just 5 low-grade mana stones, I can show you what you are looking for."
"Hmph! You’re still in the business of tricking strangers?" another man coldly snorted, then turned to Kranos and Javil. "Young man, for just two low-grade mana stones, I can show you whatever you are looking for. This is as low as any of us will go."
Kranos studied their facial expressions, and after sensing the honesty, he readily agreed. Withdrawing two mana stones from his spatial ring, he tossed them over to the man. With that, Kranos immediately told the man what he was looking for.
"Papers containing array languages? It would be better if they contained annotations?!" the man asked to clarify, to which Kranos nodded. Javil, on the other side, also got a guide after paying two mana stones and split up with Kranos after agreeing to meet back here before leaving the secret realm.
"In that case, we’ll have to go to Madman Wo’s place," the guide said after some thought, then proceeded to lead Kranos towards the direction of Madman Wo’s place.
Hearing the strange name, Kranos was curious. Why would someone be called a madman? He quickly asked the guide; he didn’t want to buy something fake after all.
"You don’t have to worry, the goods Madman Wo sells are real. The reason he got that name is because he loves rambling about a lot of strange things." At this, Kranos was intrigued, but he didn’t ask too much. He silently followed behind the guide, and soon the guide led him to an old wooden hut.
The hut was quite spacious. At a glance, Kranos realized that the hut seemed to contain many items. Just outside the hut, an old man sat in a reclining chair, mumbling something under his breath. "Old Madman Wo, I’ve brought you a customer."
Hearing the words, the old man quickly jumped up from his chair and glanced around. His gaze landed on Kranos and the guide. He immediately frowned, "I’ve told you, I’m not a madman, I only see visions of the future!"
"Yeah... yeah... and I’m the strongest cultivator in the immortal world," the guide joked, not believing the man in the slightest.
Seeing this, the old man just shook his head then turned to Kranos, "What?" Suddenly he exclaimed as though he had seen something terrifying. The next instant, he spurted out a mouthful of old blood. He pointed at Kranos, trembling, "Dea... death... Young man, your future path has been cut off! Your death is certain!"
The man seemed extremely serious, causing Kranos to furrow his brow. He faintly felt what the old man said was the truth, but... his path had been cut off? What did that mean? Kranos was extremely confused. However, just as he was about to ask the old man, the guide from the side interrupted.
"Old madman, why are you scaring your customers again? Don’t you know that by telling your customers they would die, you scare them off? Why else do you think they never come back?"
At this, the man retorted fiercely, "It’s obviously because they died!"
The guide, however, just shook his head and said, "Old madman, you still haven’t changed. Why do you say this young man will suddenly die?"
At these words, the old man seemed stumped, "Because... because..." Suddenly, the old man seemed to forget what he was saying, "What were we talking about? Oh, yes, you brought me a new customer!"
"See? Old madman, you really should get some treatment for this ailment of yours." Kranos, who was watching from the side, was stunned. At the same time, he couldn’t help but think the old man was truly a madman. However, as cautious as Kranos was, he also decided to keep the man’s words in his heart and be extremely cautious.
He couldn’t let the path he just started be cut off abruptly! In the time space, Eternal Hunger faintly trembled at Kranos’s thought, agreeing with him.
