Chapter 9: The Dao of Qian Kun Astonishes the Two Immortals, Heading East
In truth, the Dao of Earth could evolve into the Dao of Qian Kun, a realization Zhong Yue should have had earlier, though he had not fully comprehended it.
After all, even in later times, Zhenyuanzi himself had cultivated the Dao of Qian Kun, the most famous example being his divine power, “The Universe in the Sleeve,” which shook the three realms.
Now, with Zhong Yue’s self-realization, his foundational Dao was firmly established.
Immortal light shone brightly, purple mist rose, and countless Dao principles intertwined behind Zhong Yue, where, vaguely, a great realm seemed to rise.
In this vast realm, mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, insects, fish, birds, beasts, the sun, the moon, and the stars all appeared.
Within Wuzhuang Temple, Zhenyuanzi and Hongyun were both stunned by the sight. They exchanged surprised glances, and their hearts were stirred by immense waves.
They could tell that this was the manifestation of establishing a Dao, a symbol of realizing one’s own path.
What remarkable talent and insight this was!
How long had they discussed the Dao?
Zhong Yue, though, had not only gained insight but had used this to realize his own Dao and walked a different path. Such talent was truly extraordinary.
If they were to speak honestly, neither of them could achieve this, even with their own cultivation.
After all, when Saint Hongjun lectured in the Purple Cloud Palace, they had barely grasped three or four principles, and that was with the advantage of their innate divine status.
From what they knew, others with slightly weaker backgrounds could only comprehend one or two principles at best.
As for using this insight to innovate and deduce further…
None had done it.
Even the Three Purities, said to inherit the bloodline of Pangu, had not achieved this; at most, they had gained a deeper understanding of the Dao.
After a moment, Zhenyuanzi and Hongyun both let out a wry smile.
Hongyun turned to Zhenyuanzi and teased,
“Old friend, aren’t you regretful?”
Zhenyuanzi shook his head with a sigh, his wry smile deepening.
“Do not mock me, my friend.”
“This matter, after all, depends on mutual will. There is no regret to speak of.”
Zhenyuanzi took a deep breath, trying to calm the turbulent emotions in his heart.
To say there was no regret would be a lie.
Such talent, not taking him as a disciple, was truly a loss.
But Zhenyuanzi, as an innate divine being, also had his own pride.
Since Zhong Yue had refused, it should end here.
As for the benefits he had offered, it was simply to form a good relationship. Establishing a good bond with such talent, even offering a few spirit fruits, was still worthwhile.
..
Because it was merely the realization of Dao, not actual cultivation, Zhong Yue’s meditation did not last long.
In just a few moments, he woke from his meditation.
Looking at Zhenyuanzi and Hongyun in front of him, Zhong Yue rose and bowed deeply.
“Thank you, two seniors. I am deeply grateful.”
This was a gesture of thanks for their guidance, and both of them were deserving of the bow.
On the main seat, Zhenyuanzi gave a slight bow, shaking his head.
“Young friend’s talent is extraordinary. We have only imparted a few basic Dao principles, and yet you have already comprehended your Dao. There is no need to thank us.”
Hongyun, on the other hand, seemed much more carefree. He laughed heartily,
“What my friend says is true. Your talent is outstanding, no need for thanks.”
“To celebrate our gathering, let’s drink! Let’s drink!”
With that, Hongyun raised his cup, filled with fine liquor, and without waiting for Zhong Yue and Zhenyuanzi’s response, drank it all in one go.
Zhenyuanzi, sitting nearby, couldn’t help but shake his head and laugh.
“You rascal, I see you’re not drinking to celebrate our gathering but purely for your love of wine.”
Though he said that, Zhenyuanzi still raised his cup and clinked it with Zhong Yue’s from a distance.
Zhong Yue, seeing this, promptly lifted his own cup and returned the gesture.
After three rounds of drinking, the three of them resumed discussing the Dao.
However, what followed was Zhong Yue speaking, sharing the Dao of Qian Kun that he had just realized.
The sound of the Dao was faint and ethereal, the rhythm of the Dao lingering in the air.
Zhong Yue’s cultivation was not on par with Zhenyuanzi and Hongyun, so it did not cause any extraordinary phenomena.
However, the essence of discussing the Dao has never been about appearances but about content.
Although the Dao of Qian Kun he spoke of was still in its nascent form, it encompassed everything, often causing Hongyun and Zhenyuanzi to deeply reflect.
Both of them were innate divine beings, and their insight and understanding were already quite strong, so after discussing the Dao, they actually gained a lot from it.
The more this happened, the more they were astonished by Zhong Yue’s insight, and they felt increasingly close to him.
They had always enjoyed making friends in the wilderness, and seeing Zhong Yue’s talent, they truly began to feel a sense of equality in their friendship with him.
Thus, the three of them spent two thousand years at Wuzhuang Temple, enjoying tea, discussing the Dao, burning incense, and playing the zither.
Occasionally, Zhong Yue would take out his long flute, and together with Zhenyuanzi’s zither, they would perform. Hongyun would dance to the music, creating a harmonious and joyful atmosphere.
And so, time passed for two thousand years.
…
“Young friend, why not stay a little longer? With your insight, wouldn’t it be wonderful to join us in going to the Purple Cloud Palace in a few days to listen to the Saint’s lecture?”
In front of Wuzhuang Temple, Zhenyuanzi looked at Zhong Yue and spoke, trying to persuade him to stay.
Hongyun, standing beside him, also nodded in agreement.
“What my friend says is right. Why don’t you come with us?”
Zhong Yue paused when he heard this.
To say he wasn’t moved would be a lie.
To listen to the Saint’s lecture was an extraordinary event.
Previously, his cultivation was not sufficient, so he had not considered it.
Now, although his cultivation was still lacking, with the protection of Zhenyuanzi and Hongyun, some chaotic energy wouldn’t be a problem.
Moreover, there were precedents for this, such as the two golden crows of the Sun Palace, the Three Purities, and Kunpeng, all of whom brought disciples along, though they hadn’t released them.
It could be said that if he agreed, he would soon be able to go to the Purple Cloud Palace and listen to Hongjun lecture on the Dao. The temptation was indeed great.
However, Zhong Yue quickly shook his head.
“Thank you both… for your kind offer, I am deeply grateful.”
After spending a thousand years together, their relationship had become very close, so calling them seniors was no longer appropriate; he could only address them as fellow Daoists.
“Indeed, cultivation relies on fate. Since my strength is insufficient, it’s not destined for me. If I were to force it, it might displease the Saint.”
“If this causes any trouble for you two Daoists, I would feel truly guilty.”
In truth, Zhong Yue did not think this way; he simply did not want to get involved in the matters of the Purple Cloud Palace.
The Saint’s lecture was indeed a grand occasion, but if one’s strength was insufficient, getting involved could bring disaster.
After all, the six Saint positions still carried unresolved karmic debts.
Thinking of this, Zhong Yue glanced at Hongyun and couldn’t help but sigh.
Spending two thousand years at Wuzhuang Temple not only helped him reach the perfected Golden Immortal realm but also allowed him to realize his Dao. The favor owed was not small.
If he had the ability in the future, he would surely help this honest Daoist.
At the front of Wuzhuang Temple, when Hongyun and Zhenyuanzi heard Zhong Yue’s words, they didn’t think much of it.
They simply felt that Zhong Yue had his own Dao, and after some pleasantries, they said no more.
“Fellow Daoists, it’s time for me to leave.”
“I’m departing now.”
Zhong Yue gave a respectful bow, and then, transformed into golden light, headed eastward.
