Chapter 10: You Just Found a Treasure and Now You’re Courting Death?
Wuzhuang Temple sat at the crossroads of east and west. Beyond it, the surrounding spiritual energy became noticeably more vibrant, and all manner of spiritual flora bloomed in abundance.
Without a particular destination, Zhong Yue wandered leisurely through the mountain forests. Just as he had done in the West, he absorbed the essence of the local ley lines to replenish his own foundational energy. The only difference was that the ley lines in the East were intact—each one vast and powerful—offering far greater efficiency than those he had encountered in the West.
And so, he walked on for about a hundred years.
One day, Zhong Yue arrived at a particular location.
This place was blessed with towering mountains and flowing waters, imbued with spiritual energy that filled the valleys. Cranes cried in unison and auspicious beasts roamed freely. One glance was enough to tell it was a land of blessed fortune and spiritual vitality.
Just as Zhong Yue was preparing to search for ley lines in the area, a flash of spiritual light caught his eye.
“Hmm? What’s this?”
Startled, Zhong Yue quickly channelled his internal spiritual power into his eyes.
In that instant, his pupils shone with dazzling golden light, radiating beams of divine brilliance as though they could pierce through the fabric of space itself.
This was the Piercing Illusion Golden Eyes, a great divine technique he had created years ago while restoring ley lines in the West. Back then, he had encountered all manner of ignorant creatures that disturbed his work. Frustrated by the endless trouble, he developed this technique to ward off such nuisances.
As time passed and his cultivation deepened, the eye technique evolved and matured. He refined it thoroughly and named it the Piercing Illusion Golden Eyes—capable of seeing through all illusions.
“A blessed cave-dwelling? No, wait—the aura here resembles that of my birthplace… This must be a land where a spiritual object is being nurtured.”
Zhong Yue studied the distant curtain of light, a mixture of delight and anticipation rising in his chest.
Ever since leaving the mountain valley where he was born, he had encountered a few spiritual treasures, but none had manifested with such grandeur as this.
Sensing he might have stumbled upon something truly extraordinary, he immediately strode forward and soon arrived before the glowing screen.
Cross-legged, he sat down and activated his internal power. The golden glow of his Piercing Illusion Golden Eyes flared again as he began to study the innate formation array before him.
Before long, he had a rudimentary grasp of the formation’s structure.
The array was rooted in the Element of Wu Earth, interwoven with the laws of earth. It was vast and unyielding, resembling a mountainous presence.
To Zhong Yue, who cultivated the Dao of Earth, this kind of formation posed no significant challenge.
In just a few dozen years, he had thoroughly comprehended the entire array.
“Now then, let’s see what treasure this formation was nurturing.”
Zhong Yue chuckled softly and stepped forward, moving towards the light curtain ahead.
Strangely enough, as soon as he touched it, the barrier that had separated this world from the outside dissolved automatically.
This was the natural effect of having cracked the formation. While it looked like he had simply taken a step, in reality, his divine soul had already seeped into the array and unraveled the concealed mysteries.
With every step, the array gradually receded, and in no time, Zhong Yue disappeared from sight.
Upon entering, a wave of fragrant aroma enveloped him, and his eyes were greeted with a panorama of lush spiritual herbs and radiant flowers.
Looking around, clouds of spiritual energy floated about, sacred grasses covered the ground, and elemental essence of Wu Earth danced through the air—this place was beyond extraordinary.
“What a magnificent blessed land.”
Zhong Yue could not help but praise it aloud. With the innate array guarding it, this place far surpassed the conditions of his birthplace.
Exploring thoroughly, he reaped substantial gains.
First were the various spiritual flowers and herbs—more than he had gathered over the years combined.
Next were the essence fragments of Wu Earth, which resonated closely with his own spiritual origin. They could be refined to strengthen his physical body and even used to nurture the five internal energies in preparation for his future breakthrough to Taiyi Golden Immortal.
Lastly—and most significantly—was a piece of innate spiritual treasure.
Remarkably, this treasure was a pearl, named the Innate Earth Spirit Pearl.
It contained the primordial power of Wu Earth, dense and boundless, able to command the power of mountains and ley lines. It was highly compatible with Zhong Yue’s cultivation path.
Even more crucially, this Earth Spirit Pearl was part of a set, matching the Wood Spirit Pearl he had acquired earlier.
Beyond these two, the Great Desolation also held three more: the Metal, Fire, and Water Spirit Pearls. Together, they formed the Five Elemental Spirit Pearls—a supreme-grade set of innate spiritual treasures.
However, even obtaining one more was cause for great joy. Zhong Yue did not dare to hope he might eventually collect the full set.
Although there was more than one set of the Five Elemental Spirit Pearls in existence, they were extremely rare. Assembling the complete set would be no easy feat.
After storing the treasure, he roamed the mountain one more time to ensure he hadn’t missed anything, then entered the ley lines.
Activating the Origin Heaven Divine Technique, he extracted the essence of the ley lines, fused it into his being, and replenished his core energy.
Once the entire process was complete, Zhong Yue was about to leave the area.
Suddenly, tremors echoed in his ears.
Upon close inspection, he realised that outside the array, a large demon beast was relentlessly attacking the formation.
Earlier, when Zhong Yue had entered the blessed land, he had not removed the array. As a result, any outsider who discovered it would naturally be blocked by the Innate Wu Earth Formation.
Indeed, that was exactly what this array was—the core of which had been the Earth Spirit Pearl. Zhong Yue had realised this the moment he saw the pearl.
However, now that he had removed the Earth Spirit Pearl, the array’s power had diminished dramatically.
And during his brief moment of hesitation, the demon outside had already blasted a massive hole in the array.
Their eyes met. The beast clearly hadn’t expected anyone to be inside already.
Just as Zhong Yue was about to speak, the other suddenly narrowed his eyes and snarled viciously:
“You damned brat! You dare steal this opportunity from your Grandpa Tiger? Hand over the treasure, and maybe I’ll let you live. Otherwise, don’t even think about leaving here alive.”
Hearing this, Zhong Yue’s brows furrowed slightly.
Would you like me to continue with the next part?
He was no longer the fledgling youth he once was. Within the vast realm of the Primordial Wilds, there existed an unspoken rule: fortune belonged to the one who discovered it first.
Yet the tiger demon before him clearly had no intention of honouring that principle.
However, in the next moment, Zhong Yue understood why—because the aura radiating from the tiger demon made everything clear: the opponent was a Taiyi Golden Immortal.
Reflecting upon his own cultivation level—merely a Golden Immortal—Zhong Yue immediately grasped the situation.
This was blatant bullying of the weak by the strong.
The moment that realisation dawned, Zhong Yue’s expression darkened completely.
“You seek death the moment I obtain a treasure?”
He sneered coldly, flipped his palm deliberately, and brought out the newly refined Innate Earth Spirit Pearl.
As soon as the spirit pearl appeared, it radiated resplendent divine light, the dense innate prohibitions within it laid bare in all their splendour.
The tiger demon’s eyes widened at once upon witnessing this sight, exclaiming in shock—
“Innate spirit treasure?!”
“Boy, hand it over to me!”
As his words fell, the greed in his eyes was no longer concealed.
Immediately, a violent demonic mist burst forth from his body, boundless bloodlust surging into the sky, as though it could crush the very heavens.
