Powerless Boy is reborn as Lustful Elf -
Chapter 20: Eclispe
Chapter 20: Eclispe
They stepped closer to the poster, their eyes narrowing as they took in the bold, striking letters printed across its surface.
Alex could now see the message clearly, the words standing out against the slightly crumpled paper.
The ink was dark, almost as if someone had pressed the letters into the material with force, making sure no one could ignore them.
It read: "The Time for Change Is Now. ECLIPSE of the Old Things..."
Alex frowned, his eyes flicking back to the poster.
The words still loomed over him, heavy with meaning he couldn’t quite grasp.
He turned to Sylra, his voice low with curiosity and concern.
"What does it mean?" he asked.
Sylra shrugged, her expression unreadable.
"There’s this new group of radical elves," she said casually, though there was a hint of caution in her tone. "They believe some kind of danger is coming, something big enough to change everything. And they think our leaders aren’t doing a good enough job handling things. They’re convinced the elven world is heading for disaster."
Alex sighed, shaking his head.
"Let me guess, they think they’ll do a better job?"
"Precisely," Sylra replied, a wry smile tugging at her lips. "They believe they have the answers, that they can fix everything our leaders are supposedly failing at. That’s why they’ve been holding secret meetings, gathering followers, and spreading their new ideologies."
Alex glanced back at the poster, its words pressing into his mind like an unspoken threat.
Sylra’s voice dropped slightly as she continued, her expression turning more serious.
"Anyways, it’s considered illegal to be part of the Eclipse. The leaders signed a decree against it. Anyone caught supporting them, even in secret, can be punished."
Alex raised an eyebrow.
"Punished how?"
Sylra’s gaze flickered to the poster again before returning to him.
"Banishment." The word hung in the air like a heavy stone dropping into deep water. "If someone is found to be involved with the Eclipse, they’re cast out. Permanently. Stripped of their status, their home, their connections, everything. They have to leave the elven lands and survive on their own, and for most, that’s as good as a death sentence."
Alex exhaled sharply.
The elven world was vast, but outside the safety of its cities and enchanted forests, there were dangers lurking, unpredictable magic, wild creatures, and lands untouched by civilization.
Being banished wasn’t just exile; it was a form of slow, merciless punishment.
He narrowed his eyes.
"By leaders, you mean the Council?"
Sylra nodded but then added, "Yes, but not just them. The Council is the governing body, and they have the constitutional authority to make laws. But there are other elves, older, more powerful, who hold just as much, if not more, influence."
She folded her arms, her tone thoughtful.
"These are the ancient families, the ones whose bloodlines go back to the earliest days of our kind. Some of them don’t hold official titles, but they don’t need to. Their word can sway entire cities. Their wealth and magical prowess make them untouchable. If they support a decision, the Council rarely opposes it. If they oppose something, well... let’s just say it doesn’t last long."
Alex listened carefully, piecing it together.
"I see," Alex muttered, his mind swirling with thoughts.
There was so much to learn about the elves, so much history woven into their world, layers of power, tradition, and unspoken rules that shaped their lives.
He had barely scratched the surface, and already, he could feel the weight of it pressing down on him.
This wasn’t just a simple society; it was a complex web of influence, ancient grudges, and silent struggles for control.
He glanced around, taking in the towering trees that framed the city in the distance, their silver-green leaves whispering softly in the breeze.
The elven lands were beautiful, filled with magic and elegance, but beneath that graceful exterior, there was tension, fractures hidden beneath centuries of order.
Alex knew it would take time to understand it all.
The politics, the unspoken alliances, the quiet war between progress and tradition.
However, since elves were almost practically immortal, Alex was sure he would have enough time.
Unlike humans, whose lives were fleeting in comparison, elves had centuries, millennia even, to build their knowledge, strengthen their power, and entrench themselves in their ways.
That was both their greatest strength and their greatest weakness.
Change was slow among them, resisted by those who had lived long enough to see the rise and fall of countless ideas.
The Eclipse group lingered in his mind, refusing to fade even as he tried to focus on other things.
The more he thought about them, the more questions bubbled to the surface.
What could drive the elves to form such a group in a highly regulated society like the elven one?
Elves were not like humans.
Their society was built on stability, carefully maintained traditions, and an order that had lasted for thousands of years.
Unlike mortal civilizations that rose and fell within a handful of generations, the elven world remained, unchanging, unyielding.
The laws were strict, the leadership deeply rooted, and the power balanced in a way that ensured control stayed in the hands of the same families, the same institutions, the same way of life.
And yet, despite all of that, a faction had emerged.
A group bold enough to defy those ancient rules.
What had driven them to do it?
Alex had seen rebellion before, in stories and in history books.
It usually stemmed from oppression, suffering, or desperation, things that didn’t seem to apply to the elves.
They were practically immortal, they lived in some of the most advanced and beautiful cities in existence, and they had access to magic that most other races could only dream of.
By all accounts, they should have been content.
But they weren’t.
Something had pushed them to this point.
Something had made them believe that even an immortal civilization needed change.
Was it corruption?
Had the leaders grown too comfortable, too blind to the shifting tides?
Or was it something else entirely, something unseen, lurking beneath the surface of elven society like a hidden fault line, waiting to break?
