Powerless Boy is reborn as Lustful Elf -
Chapter 104: New special quest
Chapter 104: New special quest
The scene before Sir Orion was a chaotic tableau: Alex on his knees, battered and panting, two masked elves writhing in agony under the grip of his infliction, a third standing frozen with indecision, and a smoldering shrub casting faint shadows across the path.
The professor’s sharp demand "What in the name of the stars is going on here?" still hung in the air, his voice a blade that sliced through the tension.
Alex’s head throbbed, his scorched arm and bruised side pulsing with pain, but the sudden arrival of Sir Orion jolted him, his focus wavering.
In his surprise, Alex’s grip on his infliction faltered, the mental effort slipping like sand through his fingers.
The invisible wave of power dissipated, and the two elves caught in its grasp staggered upright, their groans fading.
The third elf, already poised to flee, seized the moment. Without a word, the trio bolted, their paper bag masks crumpling as they sprinted into the dense trees lining the path.
Their footsteps faded quickly, swallowed by the rustle of leaves, leaving Alex and Sir Orion alone in the aftermath.
Alex swayed, his knees trembling as the adrenaline ebbed, leaving him drained and aching.
Sir Orion was at his side in an instant, his wiry frame surprisingly steady as he gripped Alex’s uninjured arm and helped him to his feet.
"Easy, now," the professor said, his tone a mix of concern and authority.
His sharp eyes scanned Alex’s injuries, the reddened, blistered skin on his arm, the way he clutched his side, and his brow furrowed. "It seems you’ve made some very strong enemies in this school, Alex."
Alex’s chest heaved, each breath a struggle as anger and pain churned within him. "No kidding," he panted, his voice rough with frustration.
His fists clenched, the sting of the attack and the weight of Vaelen’s accusations from earlier fueling his rage. "They came out of nowhere. I couldn’t even..."
He trailed off, wincing as a fresh wave of pain shot through his ribs. "Sir Orion, can you teach me how to use my abilities in combat? I need to know how to fight back."
Sir Orion’s expression tightened, his lips pressing into a thin line. "No," he said firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
He adjusted his grip on Alex’s arm, guiding him toward the main school building, his steps brisk but careful to match Alex’s unsteady pace.
Alex’s shoulders slumped, a mix of exhaustion and defiance flaring in his chest.
"What’s the point of having abilities if I can’t defend myself with them?" he muttered, his voice low but laced with bitterness. "They’re useless if I’m just a target."
Sir Orion sighed, his gaze softening slightly, though his posture remained rigid. "It’s not that simple, Alex. Using abilities in combat without mastering the basics is like handing a child a sword, they’re more likely to hurt themselves than their opponent.
It’s dangerous." He paused, his eyes flicking to the scorched patch on Alex’s arm, then to the path where the elves had vanished. "But... given the urgency of your situation, I’ll consider a way to incorporate some defensive techniques. Nothing advanced, mind you, but enough to give you a fighting chance. I’ll need to discuss it with the principal first."
Alex nodded, too tired to argue further, though a spark of hope flickered in his chest.
Sir Orion’s promise, however vague, was something to cling to.
The professor’s expression hardened again as he continued, "For now, I’m going to the principal to see about improving your security.
No student should be ambushed like this on academy grounds." He shook his head, muttering under his breath, "Paper bag masks, of all things..."
They reached the main building, and Sir Orion steered Alex toward the healing center, his grip steady but gentle. "Get yourself patched up," he said, his tone firm but not unkind. "And stay out of trouble until I sort this out."
Alex managed a weak nod, his body screaming for rest as the professor turned and strode off, his scroll still lying forgotten on the path behind them.
That night, Alex lay restless in his narrow bed, the events of the day replaying in his mind like a relentless storm.
The healing center had treated his burns and bruises, leaving his arm bandaged and his ribs sore but manageable.
Yet the pain lingered, not just in his body but in his thoughts Vaelen’s accusation, Bastian’s doubt, the masked elves’ attack. Sleep eluded him, his mind too tangled with anger and fear to find peace.
The darkness of his small dorm room felt oppressive, the silence broken only by the faint creak of the academy’s ancient walls.
A sudden chime shattered the quiet, startling him.
A notification flashed in his mind, glowing with an urgency that made his heart skip: <New Special Quest>.
Alex sat up, his bandaged arm protesting as he focused on the system. He opened the quest, and the words appeared, stark and surreal: <Special Quest: Bed a Teacher>.
Below it: <reward: Unlocking Combat Mode>.
Alex blinked, his mouth falling open. "What is combat mode?" he muttered, his voice barely a whisper in the dark.
The system responded instantly, a new message unfolding: <Combat Mode: When activated, this mode enhances the user’s battle abilities and stats, increasing strength, speed, and precision in combat scenarios.>
He stared at the words, his mind racing.
The system had seen his predicament. the ambush, his desperate need to fight back, and it had evolved, offering a solution tailored to his crisis.
Combat mode sounded like exactly what he needed, a way to turn the tables on his enemies and protect himself.
It could mean the difference between surviving another attack and being overwhelmed.
He thought of the masked elves, their calculated ambush, and the searing pain of the fireball.
If he could unlock this mode, he might finally have the edge he needed.
Or maybe... He shook his head, pushing the thought away. For now, he needed rest, a chance to clear his head and face the impossible task with fresh eyes.
