Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead
Chapter 906 - 906: Putrescent Dragon

The situation of the attacking undead army was not as severe as Loimos's infiltration of the barrier, as even with so many of them gathered here, they could not simply break in, but the situation was still dire, especially because of the disaster beast, even with the grand roc not being around, there were still eight of them around, and these creatures were far from being simple.

All of them seemed to provide strength to all other surrounding undeads, and each of them seemed to possess some sort of ability capable of affecting livings within the life barrier, The Song's melody was an example of that, and its music alone would severely impede the livings if not for Ansonio countering it.

That the talent holder could compete with a disaster beast in its own domain was incredibly lucky, but out of the eight currently present, it really was the only one that could be locked into a one-on-one confrontation like this, as for the seven others, they needed to be dealt with the old fashioned way… The strongest fighters of the realm had to face these humongous creatures, whose sizes dwarfed even the most impressive of beasts in the Emerald Realm.

The simple fact that they were so atrociously large was a challenge in and of itself, even if they were living creatures, finding their weak points and actually targeting them would be difficult, but being scions of death, they had no weak points to begin with, so to be put down, they had to have the majority of their bodies destroyed, and whilst the heralds, priestesses and ancestors certainly had the means to do that, with seven of these creatures alongside many other undead beasts and soldiers, actually finding an occasion blast them with their strongest moves was complicated.

Also, to add to the fun, one of these disaster beasts had a sort of halo which prevented energy to swiftly circulate, meaning that actually preparing and condensing killing moves was complicated, and if they tried to focus to do it, they would be instantly targeted in priority, so overall, the battlefield was a huge mess, the warriors on the ground had to fend off against countless undeads of all sorts, and had already been pushed back nearly right into the barrier already.

Especially since any lieutenants that was not engaged in combat with any of the more powerful individuals would have no qualms running through regular warriors and slaughtering them, coupled with the fact that everyone had felt the oppressive presence of Loimos inside of the barrier, many were terrified of the idea that could get caught in between the endless army of corpses and their terrifying leader, which only made The Song's lullaby affect them more even through Ansonio's own music.

"Irlitimiz! Tell me your sharp nose knows which of those foul creatures is messing with my channelling of emerald light" the wolf-like priestess looked up at the one calling out to her, whilst still holding back some sort of rhinoceros with a silver horn that had its guts hanging out.

"Ioleznta, it's that big rotten mess over there!"

"Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?!"

"What did they call it again? Ah yes, the big dragon over there! With its pale rotten flesh and neck covered in feathers!" the Divine Dancing Priestess had never seen a dragon before today, but she had heard a few people from outside calling it at as it approached, apparently, even when facing a whole bunch of corpse, a huge dragon was still worth pointing out specifically, even with the slew of other abominable things around.

"Alright then- I'll beat its ass!" the Emerald Herald flew high up, the dragon did indeed behave suspiciously, it was hanging out in the back, and seemed more content roaring out, presumably shouting commands at other dragon-like undeads.

Honestly, if that thing was not flying high-up right now, she probably wouldn't be able to see it in its entirety without using the emerald light coming down from the sun, the scale of every disaster beast was simply absurd, if that dragon were too land, even if it did it in a gentle manner, the realm would tremble, at least, that was if that beast was as heavy as it looked.

Though, if there was any consolation to be had, it was that this one was definitely the largest out of the bunch…

As Ioleznta approached, the winds grew turbulent and hard to get through, this was merely due to the casual swing of the dragon's wings that it did to hover in place, looking around, she spotted the beast ancestor wrestling one of the disaster beast, literally, and she hadn't even left her humanoid form, she really just grabbed some sort of big malformed creature with much too many legs and a big light as a head, and flipped over her shoulders away from the battlefield.

'Oh boy…' the herald did not see her own ancestor anywhere though, but considering the chaos of the battlefield, it wasn't really that surprising.

Soon enough however, the dragon took notice of her, and it did not appreciate her approach, roaring in her direction, sending a powerful sound wave alongside all sorts of filth from its mouth straight at her, but the herald simply sped off in an arc.

Reeling its head back, the disaster beast's throat bulged up like that of a frog, making a swift turn through the air, being much too agile despite its size, it unleashed its draconic breath, but there was no fire to be seen anywhere, as instead, some of greyish putrescence was launched outward instead, travelling through the air with enough speed to nearly catch Ioleznta off guard, but she managed to avoid it anyways, though, the creature simply continued to spew its rancid breath.

The herald kept on moving forward however, and the dragon was smart enough to understand that this was not going anywhere, ceasing the flow of putrescence, leaving a wide line of acidic destruction upon the ground.

It instead went to flapping its wings with much strength, channelling mana into them, severely increasing the potency of the winds stirred up by their movements, but the beast underestimated the herald, she turned into green light, and in an instant, she was standing upon the creature's back.

'Now, how the hell does it destroy this thing? Even with all the others to help me, our strongest attack, even if unimpeded by its durability, wouldn't have the radius to blow even half of it away…' This was probably one of the reasons why Loimos had nurtured the disaster beasts into such gargantuans, the weakness of undeads in the empire was not really life these days as the skilled users of life force had all been crushed already.

But rather, attacks of great power that would blow them away entirely in an instant.

Most undeads would be able to keep going and not be sent back to The Graveyard, even with the majority of their body missing, but if they were destroyed completely, only the handful that were not completely corporeal might escape.

As such, with no one wielding powerful life force, size was a great asset to an undead.

'Well… I just need to figure out how to make it stop interfering with energies and the likes…'
