Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 855 - 855: Copper Throne
The crack in reality disappeared as soon as Milo went through, and the living was sent rolling against a harsh stone ground, such a mundane thing was something he barely even felt, but he felt disorientated, rapidly standing upright to look around, finding himself in a place that seemed somewhat familiar.
"This…"
It was the throne room of the Copper King, Agilulf Wanneck- Also known as the merchant king, and once called 'Roitelet' by his contemporaries as an insult, Milo had not often seen this place during his time in the palace, and he had not gotten to meet the king in person many times, but it made no doubt to him that Agilulf Wanneck had been a man worthy of respect, the Copper King had not bowed his head to the threat that had already swallowed all of the continent besides his own nation, and it made no doubt that he had not gone down without a fight.
He had been old, but he had been far from weak, for all his deals and focus on economy, Agilulf Wanneck had believe that a crown was only warranted with strength, one who could not extinguish the life of an usurper by their own hands, did not deserve to bear the weight upon their head.
Milo was instantly reminded of the man, but he did not understand what he was doing here, or why it looked the exact same as he remembered, where was the fool miasma? The palace should have been warped by the undead, if not completely demolished… But there was sunlight peering through the windows, and-
'There is no life in the air…' Milo realised what was wrong with this place.
And as though his understanding was linked to it, it was then that he noticed the figure facing away from him, seemingly looking at the throne.
There was no doubt in Milo's head that he had been successfully tricked and separated from his allies, no amount of golden mana circulated through his body was dispelling any illusions so this had to all be real.
"Have you brought me here to kill me, Loimos?!"
"Loimos? Please, if the general was here, you wouldn't have even lived long enough to pass through the portal"
"You… You are Frenand?"
"I am happy that you remember my name, I go out of my way to always introduce myself, so it would have hurt my feelings if I was so easily forgettable" turning around, flinging his cape back with maximum theatricalism, the lieutenant spread his arms out.
"Welcome, Golden One! You are now standing within one of the artificial realms of our glorious empire, the purpose of this one, I hear you asking?"
"I didn't say anything-"
"Well, it's purpose is simple, a little pet project of our lovely architects" the corpse looked left and right "To be frank, the idea was suggested so that we could get the most insane of them busy so that we could work with the stable ones, don't get be wrong, I love their inverted, floating towers that are submerged with water but are home to flying creatures, but sometimes, we just want a regular tower"
"Anyways, this realm here is set to be a perfect replica of Viridis before our glorious empire took over, you could say that it is one, giant museum, it just lacks the life, really, there are even golems of the people, but I stashed them in a closet for now"
Frenand crossed his arms.
"I am a merciful one, you could say that I am a rather nice undead, any other of the lieutenants would have instantly went for your throat, honestly, I shouldn't have even been around this first battle, but I am just too kind, so I have come to discuss" Milo narrowed his eyes.
"If you are going to try and do the same thing the headless did, then spare yourself the effort" he replied, and Frenand tilted his head to the side.
"Oh, did Griar speak with you? This kid is such an emotional corpse, I swear, but you have to cut him some slack, he merely wishes to spread the goodness of death to his friend, General Loimos saved him from an existence of life in death after all, the boy is very grateful to have been guided back to the truth-"
"Bullshit! He was just brainwashed!"
Frenand raised both of his hands up as though surrendering.
"Alright, alright… No need to get so mad at me- Listen… As I said, I am a merciful one, but I am afraid that I am not very bright, I may be able to string together very verbose sentences, but convincing anyone? That is far beyond my capabilities, so I can only give a demonstration and let you think about it on your own"
"What do you mean?" Milo raised up his arms.
"It's obvious, Golden One, I'll show you the error of your ways, I'll impart upon you, the knowledge that should have been obvious- You wish to defeat us? Very well, if we are to be considered a hydra, General Loimos would be the golden head, you have to bury him to achieve your goal, but you also need to get past everything else before even attempting"
Milo merely blinked, and the lieutenant was now right in front of him, the living tried to defend, but an uppercut connected with his chin anyways, knocking out a tooth and sending him flying into the ceiling, and then into the wall opposite the throne.
"As I already stated, I am Frenand, one lieutenant of the vanguard, if you wish to have a right to appear before our general, you'll have to crush me to dust first" the undead allowed Milo to come and crash down upon the ground.
Milo stood up, spitting blood, what he had left of golden mana coursed through his body faster than before, his every wound vanishing, and his lost tooth even regrowing.
Frenand laughed boisterously.
"Good, very good!" once again, he sped away in an instant, the undead barely even needing to move at all to be able to kick off the ground, without any respect for the concepts of inertia and momentum, Frenand moved sharply in between the pillars of the throne room.
Milo's eyes darted around as he did not budge, he might be able to avoid his foe's attacks reliably by simply moving around as well, but if he wanted to win, he needed to get a grasp of the enemy's speed and pattern of movement.
So he did not move, and that resulted in him being punched right in the head, a good chunk of his face was blasted off despite his defences, only to regrow shortly after.
'My golden mana did not manage to latch onto him… Is it because he is too fast? Or does he have a trick to prevent that?'
Milo was kicked right in the back, his spine making a concerning sound as he was launched right through one of the pillars.
'Third time's a charm'
