Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead
Chapter 854 - 854: Fatal Inertia

Striking down upon Milo at full force were multiple, particularly nasty-looking undeads, amongst those who specialised in certain elements or techniques, there were naturally multiple levels to them, there were those with a natural affinity for it, those who learned sorcery to wield a particular element, and then there were those with innate talent on top of that, which was where most elite-level undeads fell, but above that, there were those who not only possessed the means to go far, but whose corpses were also specifically suited.

And it was those that were chipping away at the living's golden mana with full prejudice, corpses burnt to the point of resembling charcoal, that hardened flesh moving as underneath laid nearly liquid rot that popped and churned under the effects of the heat coming from within as they unleashed constant streams of Loimosfire.

Bloated cadavers with each of their organs in full display, all of them filled to the brim with seemingly inexhaustible black blood, with they sometimes puked out from their rotten mouths, or worse, sometimes just grabbed one of their organs, and pressed them to expel the foul liquid.

The time that passed in between Milo being blinded by the two mages and the moment he was thrown down was minuscule, barely a few seconds, but he was already reeling from it by the time, his golden mana kicked in, and managed to overpower the blindness, Milo's eyes flicking open as he forced through the barrage of attacks to stand back up.

Four undeads were responsible for the beating he had just endured, and indeed, it was worthy of being called as such as they had actually been hitting hard enough to leave bruises on him, two were of the burnt variety, one straight-up just looked like he was actually a coal golem, and the other two were of the bloody variety, one almost looking like a frog as there was an organ- Perhaps his stomach, up in his throat, which just bulged up with black blood before he spewed it forth.

With his right hand forming a chop, Milo sliced right through the throat-bulge, and kicked back at the charcoal-burnt corpse, the latter was thrown backward, but did not fall apart immediately even after being injected with golden mana.

'Strong bastard…' it had nothing to do with the mana that had been expanded on defence just prior, Milo still had enough to go around for now, he simply was facing enemies that would not go down easily, indeed, his kick had been a direct hit, and even with the undead having raised his arms in defence, Milo would have been able to just leave a hole through most other, this one hadn't even broken any bone.

If he even had bones at all.

The throat-pouch corpse said something in death tongue, or at least, Milo thought that the voice was coming from him, it was hard to tell with that awful language, as a result of the words being spoken, the two mages who were still hanging out in the back channelled their mana and attempted to repeat the same spell-combo as earlier, but this time, Milo knew what to expect, and it had no effect on him whatsoever.

Kicking against the ground, the living attempted to reach the mages, only for the other fire-wielder to burst forth with Loimosfire, tackling into him before manifesting a condensed ball of black flames the size of a fingernail, swiftly crushing it with a clap of both hands.

Milo saw the attack coming, but the flames were fast, and just as he tried to dodge away, he found his ankles trapped by fool tendrils of black blood, forcing him to take the dense spray of fire head-on.

The living seemed to disappear amidst the Loimosfire, all four undeads paying close attention to his life force, waiting for any movement or for the sign that he had succumbed, but instead, the life force seemed to just vanish instantly.

The steam of black flames seemed to burst from the inside-out, Milo had gone from being stuck in place and enduring a powerful, sustained attack from an element his golden mana had trouble handling, to slamming his knee directly into the undead's face, the charred corpse's head burst with a flash of gold, destroying him instantly as the gold travelled through the rest of his body in an instant.

Milo did not slow down, evading as more tendrils of black blood sprouted from the ground, rushed forth and stabbed right through the other fire user's skull with his outstretched palm, directly channelling golden mana to make the cadaver burst.

'Still no experience… Is it a trick? Or am I really fighting them for nothing?'

Rotten blood slammed right into his side, but Milo just pushed right through, picking the undead with the throat-pouch by the head, and crushing his skull, throwing the body that was falling apart from the inside at the other, narrowly avoided a surge of blood from the ground, and with a powerful kick, severed the last of the four in half.

'Ah… Shit' Milo healed rapidly, but the damage he had received was not small, and he had expanded more than half of his mana reserves, his energy flow wasn't as smooth as it should be too, and he was still amidst the ranks of the enemy, naturally, more undeads were going to come for him.

The flock of birds above didn't seem to thin out even as countless spells had crashed into them.

Focusing on channeling his mana, Milo decided that he would just force the way through the undeads, as at this point, staying here any longer was certain to end badly for him, he was already pretty lucky that they just weren't swarming over to him all at once.

It was then that he saw the spirits pushing back against the undeads in the distance, fighting spirits of past death hunters, soldiers and warriors, many of which had once been at odds with one another, all working together against the undead threat.

Although their united effort was effectively forcing the enemies back, things did not seem all that great either, the spirits were managing to achieve something by sheer force of numbers and will, but the enemy was steadily crushing their numbers, and soon enough, the stalemate resumed.

Milo was grateful still, the amount of ground he needed to cover had gotten smaller, and was, in fact, rather short, the only obstacle being the undeads in the way that he would have to carve through.

Launching himself forward, Milo moved in a straight line, just about to blast through the first corpse soldiers, when the very air seemed to break, a crack giving into pure darkness formed before him, opening up a way to an unfamiliar place, the timing alongside his momentum was simply perfect, he had no other choice but to go right through…
