Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead
Chapter 823 - 823: Architecture In Progress

It did not take long for the emerald folks to get their first taste of the undead empire, but it was not done through a bitter battle or savage act of destruction, instead, they were made to witness death's talent for creation, a most odd thing considering that 'Destruction' was part of the aspects of death, but 'Creation' was not.

But who knew, the church of death was still growing and evolving, more aspects could always be added in the future, and more paths could open up, just like how halls were already in preparation for the living deities that were set to join an undead pantheon whether they liked it or not, the future could be surprising.

For now, the people of the realm did not wish to intervene, waiting to see the effects of the changes brought about by the ancestors and their effects on the dead, they had decided to wait a few days to assess the results.

Also due to the fact that they originally had no idea where the underground had gone to, but unlike the soldiers in white, their undead masters did not hide like rats, and in just a day, something grew in the south, a large and tall architecture rose over the horizon, a towering construction, its presence seeming utterly impossible, when night fell the day before, nothing was there, but once morning rose, it had already reached high enough to be visible from the ground.

An immense keep built from solid, black stone, somehow, the undeads had not stacked bricks, but simply shaped stone into their desired shape, granting their creation a most stalwart, and impenetrable appearance.

And the building was not over yet, the people of the realm could see it happen right before their eyes, the fort was growing with every second, the work of what must be thousands, if not hundreds of thousand of undeads working all at once, in perfect unison, truly, not even ants could pretend to be anywhere near as efficient as that.

"Aahahah! Fools! Undead workmanship is the world's finest! Of multiple worlds, in fact!"

"Ilyad, how come you are already shouting on top of the walls? We have barely even arrived"

"Oh hello, Gilnerm, I am merely expressing myself and letting the livings know that whatever they are thinking is worthless- A simple intimidation technique, really"

"I am not sure I understand, can they even hear you?"

"Who knows? I need to be doing something, I am not an architect and wasn't put in charge of any construction site, but I can't just sit on my hands can I? So shouting it is, I am still a rather recent addition to the ranks of lieutenant, I need to show that I am eager to make myself useful"

"You think too much, General Loimos wouldn't have given you this rank if he hadn't already foreseen your capabilities, be it mental or in combat"

"I envy the simplicity with which you view things, Gilnerm, you are right, General Loimos knows what he is doing- However!"

"However?"

"Even if I know this, I have to go beyond what is expected of me, how else can I catch his attention?"

Gilnerm stayed silent for a few seconds, only his heavy armour making any noise whatsoever as he stared at Ilyad, and then forward.

He and her had been lieutenants for less time than the likes of Frenand, Erestel or Sari, but 'not long' when spoken by an undead was still many years worth of time, but due to being given this rank at around the same time, they had ended up sticking together often, so Gilnerm, a knight garbed in armour so overwhelmingly heavy that the thinking skulls of the empire had had to devise new flooring techniques so that he did not fall right through, he was rather familiar with Ilyad.

Unlike him, she looked otherwise more graceful as she was more of a mage, and also put more importance into her appearance than most undeads, presumably due to the type of zombie she was.

Dressed in a pale blue attire, with a shoulder cape that was half red, half yellow, her clothing choice alone made her recognisable, which was a good thing as her actual looks rarely stayed the same for a long time.

Her body was covered in lines that resembled fresh scars, each of them placed around different parts of her body, Ilyad could just pull these off, and stick something else instead, her particular kind of zombie was custom-built for this exact purpose, and so, she varied in height and shape depending on the day.

Right now, she even had vampire fangs, in fact, if not for the fact that her skin always turned out to be pale blue, she would look very much like a vampire right now.

"I never realised you were an admirer of General Loimos in that way"

"All female undeads have a thing for him"

"I'm fairly certain that it is not quite the case- Don't tell me you are dressing as a vampire because…"

"Don't be an idiot, of course I am disguising as a vampire to get General Loimos's attention! One is nearly always near him, and they often discuss together in private! It is obvious that she is close to him, who else but her can just meet with him so easily?"

"He isn't that hard to speak to, I just passed by him earlier, and he isn't that busy right now, you could just go and ask directly"

"Now, don't be a fool, you can't just go and ask to be loved"

"General Loimos can perfectly embody the aspects of death, which 'Love' is a part of, I am certain that he absolutely can to it on command, I mean, he can do a lot of thing by just willing to"

"Very surface level understanding, don't let Grilt or Alisiana hear that, they'll drag you away and give you a lengthy run down of each aspects"

"No worries, Frenand is occupying Alisiana, and Grilt is preparing to send some holy texts to the livings… But do you really think looking like a vampire is all that it takes? Miss One has known him for a long time, I think she is the undead who has known him for the longest, in fact, the familiarity has nothing to do with the sort of undead she is"

"Are you going to dress up as all of the women that he interacts with often?"

"...I already tried Maliah, but I just can't manage to figure out what she is like"

"You concern me, Ilyad, but speaking of which, I heard that The Death Dealer has been out of commission since she returned from the soul realm, but like, she couldn't have gotten hurt, any idea what this is about?"

"I don't know either, but you can try to ask the other Fin-Limiers, General Loimos has brought them along for this trip"
