Chapter 198: The Expedition Begins
The Queen’s Marina drifted leisurely along the coast, passengers clustered on the right side of the ship, observing the emergence of a new world bathed in the warm glow of the rising sun.
Silence fell upon the group after Grogard’s speech cast a shadow over their excitement. The land before them seemed like a phantom, a legendary relic destined to host the most significant events in history.
A land filled with myths, monstrous creatures, and secrets, and the lair of two Sin Avatars, now visible in the distance.
The Queen’s Marina gracefully anchored far from the coast. Mindful of the looming threat posed by the destructive forces in Kalaharis, a prudent decision was reached.
It was determined that the expedition would embark on canoes and approach the beach, ensuring the safety of the Queen’s Marina.
With tense hearts among the passengers, a flotilla of canoes braved the tempestuous sea and landed on the tranquil shores of the beach.
Grogard leaped onto the shore ahead of everyone else, his crew members close behind. One by one, the members of the expedition followed, setting foot on the new territory.
On the soft grains of sand, Hope found himself captivated by the alluring air that enveloped him. It was a symphony of scents, where the sweet fragrance of tropical fruits danced with the mysterious allure of pungent odors, creating an intoxicating blend.
His eyes darted towards the vast expanse of the majestic forest, and a shiver ran down his spine. This was not a game anymore; there were no cameras, and no audience to witness their journey. They found themselves deep within the treacherous heart of the fabled Hell on Earth.
"Alright everyone, get together, get together. From now on you will listen to me and I mean for real. Here you can forget your little way of life, your code, or whatever. Hand, finger, arm, S-rank, genius... whatever you are on Ambrosia means nothing here. Beasts don’t discuss their power before trying to tear you in two."
A palpable sense of eagerness filled the air, causing each person to nod in unison. Their faces were taut with impatience, their eyes fixed on Grogard.
Acknowledging their shared tension, Grogard nodded himself and grasped a rod tightly. He pressed it against the ground, leaving behind a trail of markings.
"We are currently in a location designated as safe land. After the battle with Wrath, the highest officials in Parliament decided that if we were to come to the Kalaharis, we would pass through an open beach. Right now, we don’t feel any monster around and that’s exactly why we should feel unsafe."
He skillfully traced a graceful curve and scattered an array of dots, each stroke representing them, the ship, and the people in the land.
"We have two main goals: to find the Elf Kingdom and to ensure the safety of our ship. So I propose that we split into two teams. The first will explore the lands in search of the elves, and the second will stay here and guard the... yeah of course, I’m already seeing smiles."
He rose to his feet, arms folded across his chest.
"Don’t think you’re safe here. Remember my story? This part could be infested with giants and who knows what other creatures. Plus, there’s always a chance that a sea monster will appear and target the boat. In each case, your role will be to defend our only way back. And since we don’t know how long this will last, we don’t know if our food supplies will be sufficient, so good luck when you run out. Now let’s divide our human forces!"
During a certain period, the group splintered into two separate factions, as mentioned earlier.
Understanding the significance of their ship, they made the decision to station some of their most formidable fighters on the team.
Consequently, the division was formed between Iris and Freya.
Freya’s team would stay on the sandy shores. With a total of 28 elite emissaries, among them, Hope, Cid, Eryl, and 25 dedicated volunteers, their strength was undeniable.
Meanwhile, Iris’s team to embark on the unknown, had a total of 29 elite emissaries. This group included the council members, Mercy, along with 25 volunteers. The fate of their mission hung in the balance as both teams prepared to face the challenges that awaited them.
After splitting their food supplies in half, the teams readied themselves to embark. But before they could set off, they found themselves facing one last unexpected dilemma.
"... So, what about you? Madam the self-proclaimed Avatar?" Grogard turned to Zuri, who was staring blankly at the ocean.
Ignoring everything around her, the young woman remained motionless, completely captivated by the vastness of the sea, or more precisely by what was beyond the sea.
"Hey, you joined too, so you better be a little cooperative!" A man groaned, quickly calmed by Grogard with a tap on the shoulder.
Freya and Iris exchanged a glance, with Freya giving a subtle nod to her team.
"Since we have no choice, might we just take her?"
"Yeah, Mercy and I are on one team, so can I leave this burden to you?"
Freya gave a slight nod before shifting her gaze towards Grogard.
"Let’s put her on the waiting squad, I doubt she’ll move anyway."
Grogard acknowledged with a nod and motioned toward his crew, however, Zuri nonchalantly brushed past them, her hurried steps betraying a sense of ennui.
"I’m going with the team that will look for a Sin Avatar."
The team let out a collective groan, while Mercy kept a watchful eye on her with concern.
"Well... whatever, let’s move on. Everyone, gather around your leader and here we go! This moment must be remembered, you are the heroes of the future and only you can give a glimmer of hope for the future. Let’s see you all again in the future and I wish you all good luck! The expedition to the Kalaharis is officially underway!"
