Chapter 187: The Mystery of Greed
Chapter 187: The Mystery of Greed
(Sunny Hills)
"AAaaaargh!!! Hggh!"
The woman crashed onto the rooftop with a resounding thud, her armor in ruins. In a swift motion, she rose to her feet, gasping for air, only to be startled by the sudden appearance of a sword tip, mere inches away from her trembling foot.
"Barrier"
As her hands intertwined, a burst of energy unfurled, manifesting as a brilliant yellow staff encircling her. The thunderous impact of four elongated spears crashing down created a formidable prison, confining her within its confines. With her heavy breathing and trembling shoulders, she struggled to regain her composure, a shadowy figure crouching atop one of the spears, silently observing her from behind.
"... Iron Body!"
(Baltigate)
The civilian rushed, panicking and screaming loudly before their feet lifted off the ground. They flew back and forth between vehicles, passing skyscrapers. Farther away, an emissary jumped onto a building and hurried towards a shadow.
"Exclamation!"
With a swift motion, he shaped a perfect square with his hands, channeling the power of electricity within. A sudden surge of energy was released, striking the shadow with a powerful blast. The man’s eyes gleamed with determination as he gathered more lightning in his hands, leaping towards the looming shadow.
"Die, you bastard... huh?!"
Much to his surprise, where the shadow should have been, now lay the electrocuted corpse of an elderly man. The emissary trembled, but behind him, his own shadow grew and rose from the ground, his hands becoming sharp claws. Meanwhile, in the distance, another shadow took on the stance of a sword finger.
(New Veridian)
The edifices crumbled beneath the weight of the darkness, as a black ocean crept over the land, swallowing everything in its path. In the sky, a monstrous black cloud loomed over the city, releasing chains that cascaded down to the ground, tearing everything in their wake. The buildings dissolved into the black sea below, only to be resurrected from the cloud above and flung back onto the city alongside the chains.
A knight, covered in wounds from various weapons, was strangling an emissary who was taking his final breaths. With a swift motion, she threw him off the rooftop, sending him plummeting into the pandemonium below. Kneeling down, the knight opened her mouth wide, causing a dark substance to ooze out from within her. The eerie material expanded and solidified into a humanoid shape, as the lifeless body of the woman collapsed to the ground.
The parliamentarians were overcome with despair. The weight of the situation hung heavily in the air, as panic and gloom took hold. Each moment that passed brought with it more apprehension and uncertainty, as they struggled to maintain contact with the cities under attack.
One by one, the connections were lost, leaving the room engulfed in a sense of helplessness. The tension in the air was palpable.
"My God... What’s happening? We just had new hope and now... what the hell?" A tall man put his hands on his head.
"At this rate, it won’t be necessary for a Player to completely wipe Ambrosia." Said another man.
Agiel crossed his arms, looking thoughtful. His eyes scanned the map and after a moment, his eyes opened wide.
"... Greed has the ability to teleport, we don’t know exactly how or to what extent but we do know that he is capable of this feat. This could explain how he is in different locations...but there is a problem."
On her side, Agharita, trembling, was already aware.
"... He doesn’t disappear, he is in different places simultaneously. Teleportation can’t explain that."
"Exactly," said Agiel. "The current situation is that Greed is in several places at the same time. There is no other explanation."
People at the agency and in Parliament were in immense despair. No one understood what was happening and time was not on their side with Dora expected to wipe out many cities.
Agiel kept his eyes on the map, his brain reaching new levels of racing.
"North... West... East... South... Northeast... Five locations... Five Greed."
He lowered his head, muttering, the members around him keeping their eyes glued to him and even Agharita, on the verge of despair, was doing her best to give as much information as she could.
"... Five Dora... Do we have any information on how they attacked? What techniques do they use."
[Unfortunately no, the calls were panicked and now we can’t reach anyone... but I see where you’re going. Five Doras, then...]
"Sigma, Beta, Gamma... um...."
[Alpha and Omega.] Agiel concluded.
The people looked at each other in disbelief.
"What is that? It sounds familiar."
"Greed’s ability to split his soul into multiple alter egos, it was in Candace’s report."
"That doesn’t make any sense! We’ve heard there are multiple people in one body, but here it’s the exact opposite!"
As they argued, Agiel narrowed his eyes. He walked towards the map and looked closely at a city.
"Actually, that makes sense. We have no real idea of the extent of his power. He can split his soul, but is it impossible for him to split his body as well? Besides, I remember that there was one more body, Delta."
"... My God, then he will attack another..."
"No, calm down. This body has been described as a vessel for alter-egos. I doubt he’ll fight, which is why I think he’s the one we should target. Now listen, everyone, I have an idea what’s going on. I can’t say for sure now but... if my hunch is correct, there should be another Greed either in the center of the kingdom, precisely in the ancient capital, or..."
[We have an emergency!!!] A new voice shook the room.
The parliamentarians seemed upset, then one of them flinched.
"It’s... It’s from Mistrallon..."
A sudden burst of distress filled the room. Agharita began to shake uncontrollably. Her body trembled so violently that two staff members had to intervene and take the phone from her hands. They put it on speaker, allowing everyone in the room to hear the conversation. As for the parliamentarians, their eyes turned towards Agiel, who acknowledged their gaze with a solemn nod.
"We are listening, what is the situation?"
