Chapter 150: Expecting A Snake Not To Bite?
Thomas’s statement caused an abrupt and eerie silence to fall over the room. He was sitting with his arms crossed, looking proud and confident as Candace gave him a disinterested glance and rolled her eyes.
"Denied," Candace said with a dismissive wave of her hand. "So, as I said before, Greed is ready for any battle. We have not yet determined where he stands in comparison to the other Avatars, but based on his previous capabilities before his awakening, I am certain that..."
Suddenly, a burst of laughter erupted from the back of the room, where everyone had stopped listening to the dean’s speech upon hearing the most absurd thing imaginable.
Thomas, wiping his glasses, smiled broadly.
"Denied? Why? Are you afraid I’ll hurt him too much? I thought he was ready."
Iris looked at him with confusion. The nobles and council members followed suit, appearing annoyed or doubtful. Candace sighed and sat down, while Dora patted her on the shoulder.
"Maybe I’ll just stop giving you the freedom to speak and turn this debate into an announcement... Why are you all so unintelligent?" she exclaimed.
A teenager who was leaning against the wall near the entrance interjected.
"Instead of insulting us, why don’t we move forward with the Kalaharis expedition plan quickly?"
"Don’t give me a reason to insult you then!... So, like... Oh damn." Candace facepalmed as Thomas stood up.
"I swear, one more stupid word and you’re banned from any future debate."
"My deepest apologies, Dean, but please give me a chance. I think I’ve found a way to take control of Greed."
As he walked towards the dean’s desk, his steps were slow and measured, as if he were deep in thought.
"After hearing about the situation with Anesidora, I realized that there are some things that I couldn’t ignore. But now, I feel like there is a better way to deal with him. First of all, if I understand correctly, Dora is formatted, right?"
Candace, who was clearly beyond her limit, kept her hand on her face while Dora massaged her shoulder. Freya, noticing Candace’s distress, decided to speak on her behalf and second her.
"Yes, or more precisely, sent to his early years."
"Then he is still the same Dora, just with fewer memories. Or, if you want a better comparison, it’s like we have just turned back in time and found his younger self."
"... It sounds correct in a way."
"Yes, so we can conclude that trying to brainwash him is useless, and the operation will fail."
"Hold up, is it safe to say those things in front of him?" Another emissary said.
Murmurs arose once again. Dora looked around as if everyone was speaking another language. Freya shook her head and raised her right hand to silence the crowd.
"It’s okay," she said. "He barely understands what’s going on, and we’d rather he knows now than later believe we manipulated him. Now, Thomas, what are you trying to imply?"
"It’s a simple concept to understand if you follow my reasoning. The Dora we know is the future of a past Dora. The Dora we have with us today is this past version of Dora. Our plan is to help him remember who he was and how he should act little by little, learning from his future. However, there is a problem. No one forced Anesidora to become who he ended up being. His mother, friends, and teammates treated him differently, which means that if we teach him to be Anesidora with the same memories, it may work. He might become Anesidora, doing what he loved, tricking what he hated, and punishing anyone who attacked him."
Freya raised an eyebrow and looked at the dean for a moment, and the latter gave her a slow nod.
"So... This should be a perfect plan? Why did you say it would fail?"
Thomas passed by Iris and stopped right in front of Dora’s desk, adjusting his glasses, he leaned towards him.
"Because who exactly is this guy? The report says the Sin won, so this one isn’t Anesidora, but the monster with the yellow eyes."
The atmosphere in the room was tense as Thomas spoke, leaving everyone initially confused and struggling to comprehend what was being said.
However, as they realized, the confusion turned into panic, and voices began to rise in alarm, with some people even releasing their pent-up energy.
Amidst the chaos, Candace stood up and called for calm and control.
Her voice, though firm, carried a reassuring tone that helped to ease the tension in the room. Meanwhile, people began to leave the front row, sensing the need to distance themselves from Dora.
In the midst of this, Mercy, who had been sitting quietly, suddenly stood up and faced Thomas, her expression unreadable.
"Wasn’t that already known? Dora is Greed, so the plan is to turn Greed into Dora. That’s it."
"But that won’t work."
"... HOW?"
"Because this Greed became the murderer we know after following the same path. You are trying to create a different person using the same path that made him a monster."
The voices quieted and everyone concerted. Thomas’ point of view suddenly made sense. While Dora became the Dora they knew through his life experience, Greed became the monster by following the same path.
"Or rather, he could never be a good person, much less a great hero."
Dora tilted his head, Thomas’s gaze making him aware of all the attention on him.
"Hm? I can’t be a hero? Why? Candace said I could."
"Don’t make me laugh? You? A hero? It’s a shame you lost your memory, it’s hilarious."
"You don’t need to insult him!" Iris stepped forward.
"You don’t need to protect your friend, Iris, and I think he’s strong enough to defend himself."
Iris frowned, her face showing a bit of confusion. Thomas stood up and turned to Candace.
"Dean... no, Sloth Avatar. I have studied your species for a year and have come to a conclusion. I, a worthless human, may have found a way to direct the Sin of Greed to end the Twilight of Gods. Please give me your permission to act."
The dean, with tense eyes fixed on him, took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
"Explain."
