Chapter 122: The Night Is Made For Dream
A little later, the two entered a house and put the boy on a bed.
"I’m going to call an emissary from the association, you stay with your mother."
"Uh? Someone has to stay with him!"
"Maybe, but it’s not your..."
"Or I’ll tell everyone you shot a boy!"
"Maybe I’ll go see your mother."
He left the room groaning angry.
The girl sat down next to the boy, trying to see his face under his mask, but the boy weakly grabbed her hand.
"Uh? Oh, you’re awake! That’s good! Hey, are you okay?"
She leaned forward, almost touching his face.
He made a noise signaling that he had a hard time breathing.
"Hey, I just want to help you, stop pushing!"
She forced her way and took off his mask, then froze for a moment when she saw his face.
She looked at him for a moment and brought her fist to her face, looking away.
"Cute... I mean, how do you feel now? Isn’t it better?"
A little embarrassed, she rubbed her fingers.
"Um... are you okay?"
The boy, catching his breath, nodded.
"Ah... good. Huh... By the way, who are you? I’ve never seen you before. My name is Claudia, the best beetle hunter in the village! What’s your name?"
The boy looked at her and replied in a dry voice.
"Dora... Just Dora."
He lowered his head, his gray hair covered his face.
The girl turned and took a thoughtful stance.
"Dora? Hey, that’s a girl’s name! Haha, is that really your name?"
A slight smile appeared on his lips.
"I don’t know."
Claudia looked at Dora, a little worried to have offended him.
She coughed and tried to change the subject.
"Um... so, Dora, are you really ok? Dad can be clumsy sometimes but he really crossed the line! How could he shoot you with a special weapon? He says he keeps it for safety, to keep the danger away, but now he is the danger!"
Dora didn’t react, keeping his head low, which worried Claudia even more.
"Um... hey, if I give you my bracelet, will you forgive Dad? I got it in the pig contest, look."
She took off a bracelet, or rather a small iron hoop from her wrist.
"I’m very good at raising pigs, I completely crushed Paula’s king pig, she kept feeding him fruits, poor her, everyone knows pigs only eat dirt! So I won because my pig was better, and she was so jealous that she accused the judge of cheating because he was my friend. That’s stupid."
She took Dora’s hand and put the bracelet on his wrist.
The boy looked at the poorest winning trophy he had ever seen and suddenly his view blurred.
"Eh? Dora? Does it hurt? Did I put it too quickly?!"
She put her hand on his cheek, wiping tears.
As he saw her hand wet, he realized that he was crying and sighed.
He took off the bracelet and put it back on the girl.
"... You... don’t like it?"
He gently grabbed her hands and gave her a warm smile.
"This is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in a long time, but I’m tired of receiving things from people... Sorry."
He wiped his tears with one hand and looked out the window.
The sight of the falling night and the light in each house filled him with a warm sensation.
He felt something in his other hand and realized that he was still grabbing Claudia’s hand.
"Sorry." He said as he let go.
The girl put her hands on her reddening cheeks and looked away.
"Oh... huh... it’s... it’s not a big lov... Deal! Not a big deal!"
She covered her blushing face in embarrassment.
"B-by the way, Dora, you... Mom asked me to know if you had a girlfriend... so we could call her to tell her you’re fine." She spread the fingers of her right hand to take a peek at him.
Dora, a little surprised looked at her silently, embarrassing her even more.
The girl in her behavior reminded him of both his sister and Zuri.
His eyes became uncontrollable again, and Claudia hurried to wipe them.
"Thank you for... everything, Claudia, but I must leave now."
The girl jumped, a devastated expression on her face.
"What?! But we’ve just met! You can’t leave now.... Dad said he was going to call the doctor, and Mom is cooking dinner... you can’t go!... Is that because of the bracelet?... Or dad?"
Dora shook her head, with a sad smile.
"Absolutely no, you and your family are amazing, and I’m very impressed to meet the winner of the pig contest in person... and this is why I don’t want to see you close to a monster."
He tried to stand up, but Claudia hugged strongly his abdomen.
"No!.... I don’t want to! I want you to stay!"
Dora was very embarrassed by the situation.
The girl was sobbing in his stomach and showed a surprising strength.
He patted her head, feeling his heart torn apart.
"What’s about you having dinner first?" A woman entered the room.
She was a short lady, a little round, and had a brown bun.
"Mom, tell him that he must stay, he must stay here because he’s injured!"
"Are you sure, little lady? I don’t see a scar on this cute face, but I’m sure that if he’s not resentful he won’t refuse dinner, right?"
She put a bowl of soup with meats and potatoes next to Dora and gave one to her daughter.
"Go, eat together, and really sorry again for my stupid husband. Good that you’re not made in straw."
She gave them a wink and left the room.
Dora felt his chest tighten again and started trembling.
Claudia pouted at first, but seeing him crying again, she sat on his lap, not realizing how much that added salt to the wound.
They ate with appetite, chatting about casual things.
The girl’s energy gave life to the poor young boy, and without realizing it, his bowl fell to the ground as he fell asleep.
"Hey? Dora?" Claudia said in confusion.
In another room, the father hung up the phone and noticed his wife at the door.
"So? How is it going?"
"He has eaten everything, it shouldn’t be long."
The man nodded and looked at the newspaper.
"Good, the alliance said that they would send many emissaries, they should be here by tomorrow... you sure he won’t wake up at night?"
The woman raised her chest proudly.
"Please, are you doubting my cooking skills? I’m the best at cooking and debuffing."
The night passed swiftly and quietly, and Dora woke up to the gentle breeze of dawn.
As he opened his eyes, he felt a bit disoriented and sluggish. He got up and realized that he had fallen asleep in his room.
Trying not to wake anyone, he quietly left the room and walked around the house. He climbed down the stairs, walked through the kitchen, and went up again to the bathroom. After looking at himself in the mirror for a while, he let out a deep sigh face to a message written in blood on the mirror.
GREETING.
