Chapter 120: And The Earth Moved

Chapter 120: And The Earth Moved

The news of Elisabeth’s death had the effect of a bomb and quickly spread throughout the Kingdom.

The strongest woman in the world, the legend, the symbol that united the noble class with that of the peasants had died out.

No one wanted to believe this announcement, especially since he had no body to confirm this statement.

It was only a deduction at first, she had disappeared and the last place she was supposed to be had been destroyed, but since all the citizens had left before, they clung tightly to the possibility that she had just run away and would stay. hide in shame.

But one day, this little hope was dashed by the return of some of the heroes who fought against the twilight of the gods.

Candace, alongside four Holy Knights including Agharita, was back.

The cause of their miraculous survival was a desperate attempt by the elder to save himself from the explosion of Fafnir’s body.

Faced with imminent destruction, she had created numerous synthetic rifts to hide but was knocked unconscious when the explosion reached her.

She woke up much later, miraculously inside a Rift.

She then went out to check the situation outside before collapsing.

The city was a crater of desolation, debris, puddles of laved, monsters everywhere.

She crouched because the lack of fight was a testament to their defeat, and she had suffered the cruel fate of staying alive.

After a few hours, she gathered all her remaining strength to go out, searching for her comrades, and so she spent days wandering the ruins.

She walked, returning each stone, but she didn’t even find a trace of a body. She stood still, understanding the meaning, and checked her Synthetic Rifts, knowing she wouldn’t find Elizabeth, Dora, or Midgard inside.

So she found Agharita and three holy knights in a pitiful state, and she healed them.

After that, she had the idea to leave the ruins using her Rifts consecutively, creating Rift after Rift, until they were far enough away.

They were asked of everyone, not just heroes, but everyone who had seen Twilight of Gods.

The four Holy Knights remained silent, having lost their will to live, and even Candace refused to speak to anyone for days.

The only thing she confirmed before locking herself away was that Elizabeth, Peters, Dora, and the absent Holy Knights were likely dead, even the guild leaders were completely decimated.

This news was a terrible blow for the Kingdom which had lost in one day the strongest fighters in its history.

The Parliament held numerous conferences to determine what was the cause of their failures and the appropriate course of action, once again asking Candace.

The young girl refused all invitations, even when representatives of each section came to ask her personally.

They wanted to convince her that nothing was lost, that there was still hope, but she knew deep down that none of them had seen what she had witnessed there.

The Holy Knights were like zombies and the dean was irritated. It seemed impossible to get anything from them, but when one of the representatives, in an attempt to explain their plan, admitted that Rhea had offered to help them, the dean lost her mind.

She rushed to Agharita’s room and slammed her to the ground, knocking over the cup the knight was holding.

Agharita was surprised by the sudden strength of her master and regained a little life.

"M... Master?"

"You... What’s this shit... Pride wanted to help us?"

Agharita flinched and lowered her head, gritting her teeth. It was more efficient than a confession.

The people present in this hospital testified that they heard a loud noise coming from the Knight’s room, followed by Candace, eyes reddening, rushing out and in the room, Agharita was on the ground, her right cheek red and disappointment in her eyes.

After that day, Candace traveled to a city in the North, were the Parliament was held and without an announcement burst in, making her way to the center, next to a man holding a stack of documents.

She took the mic and slammed the desk in front of her.

"You, are we on live?!" She asked the man. The latter, worried, confirmed with a gesture of the head while looking at a cameraman.

"Good, now listen, to every citizen from Ambrosia and above, I’m going to tell everything about this world, and the imbeciles who are dooming us. I am Candace, dean of the Royal Academy, but I will talk today as my other qualification: Sin Avatar representing Sloth."

This day marked a historic turning point in the world. Candace’s speech lasted about two hours and during it, people from all over the Kingdom came together.

Some stopped work to listen to the news, others went to their friends or neighbors to ask them to change the channel.

In the countryside, in the cities, everyone stopped their activities, minute by minute, and watched the dean’s speech.

The news reached Gloria, in a country mansion, the walls shaking and cracking as her anger increased.

"This little bitch..."

Beside her, Eryl’s hand was shaking, but not for the same reason. Behind the Queen, she gave her a murderous look.

In their rooms, Moonra and Solaria watched, trembling more and more with each revelation.

In another southern mansion, the nobles listened in shock. They were already aware of the truth about the Avatars but the revelations of what happened during the Twilight of the Gods hit their little resolve.

Mercy fell to the ground at the confirmation of Peters’ fate, Zuri felt unconscious at the mention of Dora’s erasure, Freya was frozen, struggling to breathe, and Iris felt her soul leave her body.

For Cid, it was the first time he heard the truth. Whether he here, or the other council members, Thomas, Sunnah, Lisa, Maxim and everyone else in the West, listened to the news in disbelief.

Everything was put on the table, Ancient Civilization, the first apocalypse, the Avatars, the Players, the Twilight of the Gods.

Tears flowed from Candace’s eyes, as she spoke of the struggle of these heroes who could no longer see the light, she spoke of each of them and their story, all starting when they were children, hoping to save the world and meeting a flaming death, she told the story of a Player abandoning her dreams to side with humanity, she told of a boy who fought for his loved ones and was rushed to his grave, and of a brother too protective to leave his sister in danger, but too cowardly to give her an explanation.

She finally spoke about the brightest star in the sky, the hero who inspired them all and who never stopped smiling.

She talked about how much tell of her strength was an understatement, she could injure a Player, she killed many Dragons, worrying only about her loved ones, and she met her end in the most flamboyant way.

During this speech, the Holy Knights in the hospital felt an immense guilt. Each listened to the dean’s speech, a burning desire birthing in them.

The news united people in tears of sadness, fear of the monsters around them and finally, hate toward the one above.

Candace did not spare her words to take down Gloria, noting all her actions against her and the Kingdom, how she was responsible for the tragedy and for the weakness of her people.

She also criticized Rhea for not intervening despite Gloria’s refusal and announced that from that point, she wouldn’t follow her orders anymore.

Outside, people’s voices rose. Aware of the truth, they went into the street in protest. Why did they lose loved people? Who took their heroes from them?

Someone had to pay for this and Candace had designed the perfect culprit.

For the dean, things would be different too. Her new goal in life, was to use her power to help the citizen and put an end to the Twilight of Gods.

She ended her speech, breathing heavily and wiping out her tears. A round of applause cheered her, she who was the only Avatar fighting for humanity.

She couldn’t care less about their opinion and prepared to leave when someone applauding behind her made her freeze.

".... Agiel?"

Farther away, in the frontier with the north, Demons laid on the ground, in pieces.

A young woman with long brown hair in military uniform walked nervously between the corpses and stopped in front of the biggest one’s body.

"Uhm... Sister? There are some news, and... I don’t think you will like it."

An object fell of the monster, the girl panicked and rushed to it, managing to catch it before it reached the ground.

She opened her hands and was surprised to see a mini radio.

"I already know."

A voice rose from above the demon. Standing on the body, Rhea wiped the blood from her golden infantry sword.

"But you are wrong, I’m liking this situation a lot. Don’t you too?"

In the bottom, cleaning her canon, another girl in uniform with short blond curly hairs raised her head.

"You mean the Code? You want to hunt Gluttony?"

Rhea put her sword away in her scabbard.

"Not in priority, I want to see her suffer the consequences of her actions first, but she is also on the list. I got another interesting information to take in priority."
