Part-time Boss -
Chapter 26 - 26 26 Shadowfang
26: Chapter 26 Shadowfang 26: Chapter 26 Shadowfang Mo Fei lay in bed, pondering for quite a while.
In the past, he had many dreams about black dragons, including some terrible nightmares, but none of them had been as vivid and realistic as this one, even causing him to confuse whether he was a human or a dragon.
When he became Morphis, it was the first time he completely forgot his identity in reality.
All he wanted to do was to use dragonfire to burn everything to ashes, to kill those tiny mortals who dared to offend him…
When he realized that he was actually a human, he even felt a sense of disappointment, a sense of difference.
Of course, he could attribute this strange dream to some mischief of the subconscious or as a projection of his conscious mind coping with the predicaments of reality in a dream.
However, Mo Fei felt that this time, things were probably not that simple.
In the dream, he seemed to be another person, or rather another dragon, which felt unfamiliar to him yet also very familiar at the same time, Morphis… Yes, the guy who only existed in the game, the role he had always been playing.
It was vivid, too lively, too evil and arrogant.
It could no longer be explained by the subconscious.
When Mo Fei saw those crimson eyes outside the window, he clearly knew he was not the same person as the other, that it definitely was not some kind of projection of his mind.
It was a living, evil black dragon.
Could it be that characters in the game really developed souls and even began to affect their real-life counterparts?
This bizarre speculation, which only existed in science fiction movies, was something he found hard to accept.
It was too far-fetched.
But then again, the game “World of Sky” itself was a very strange thing.
Were not holographic virtual games something that only existed in science fiction stories?
No, he must figure out what was going on; otherwise, Mo Fei had a feeling that he was probably going to be in big trouble.
If this incident were an isolated case, it could be explained by his mental instability or some kind of supernatural event he had encountered.
But if it was not an isolated case, then it was obviously a problem with the game.
He decided to ask around on the forum.
He quickly got out of bed, went to the computer, and opened the forum.
Because of the high popularity of World of Sky, there were many forums and bars, but Mo Fei’s favorite forum to browse was still the official game forum, “Sky Universe.” The forum required a game account and password to log in, and when posting, it would directly display the player’s gamer ID.
This meant that there wouldn’t be random people causing confusion and disrupting the discussion.
Mo Fei logged into the forum and immediately checked the historical posts, searching for information about dreams, but he didn’t find what he was looking for.
Most of the posts were about strategies for the “Emerald Dream,” which had nothing to do with what he was after.
After thinking for a bit, he figured that most people probably wouldn’t post something like this.
It would be better to ask someone directly.
So, Mo Fei entered his favorite section—the Boss Bar.
This section was accessible only by players with boss templates, making it a VIP area.
System notification: Morphis (World Boss) has entered the bar.
Niga Heijiao (Tauren Druid/Quest Boss): Welcome, welcome.
Linden Wan (Rebel Knight/Elite): Holy shit, it’s a big shot.
Fishlur (Murloc Lord/Skeleton Boss): Welcome, welcome.
Long Aotian (Blue Dragonling/Elite): Dragon Bro, have you advanced again?
A world-class boss, that’s awesome!
Lagrios (Flame Demon Lord/Calamity Boss): Old Mo, haven’t seen you in a few days and you’ve become a world boss.
Impressive!
But why run to the forum instead of streaming live?
Morphis (Black Dragon Lord/World Boss): I’ve encountered some strange things recently and wanted to have a chat about it.
Speaking of which, have you ever dreamed about your own game character?
Lagrios (Flame Demon Lord/Calamity Boss): Of course, I have.
Just last night, I had a nightmare where two hero players brought a bunch of adventurers to my dungeon to take me down.
No matter how nicely I spoke, they wouldn’t listen, hell-bent on killing me.
In the end, out of anger, I self-destructed to take them down with me…
Damn, it scared the life out of me.
My livelihood, thank god it was just a dream.
Niga Heijiao (Tauren Druid/Quest Boss): I’ve had them too.
I often dream of turning into a bird and flying in the sky.
Toothbreak (Deep Sea Giant Shark/Rare Elite): Sometimes I dream that I’m in a movie.
Ever seen Jaws?
I’m the lead actor in it, and the director even gives me pointers.
Mo Fei listened to everyone share their experiences with dreams but didn’t gain much from it.
These dreams were all fairly common, probably something that everyone experiences when daydreams turn to night dreams.
Morphis (Black Dragon Lord/World Boss): Let me give more details.
Have any of you ever dreamed that you became someone else, took on the role of a character in the game, and in reality, this character wasn’t you, doing things that you would never do, and you completely forgot who you actually were?
Lagrios (Flame Demon Lord/Calamity Boss): Old Mo, what exactly did you dream about?
Mo Fei then gave a brief description of his dream, especially the part where he lost his sense of self, which surprised everyone.
Nega Blackhorn (Tauren Druid/Quest Boss): I’ve never had such a strange dream; my dreams are all very blurry.
Fishsla (Murloc Lord/Skeleton Boss): Sounds interesting, but I’ve never had that kind of dream.
The responses from everyone were mostly the same, leaving Mo Fei somewhat disappointed.
Was he the only one who had this kind of experience?
Suddenly, someone sent a private message.
Shadowfang (Rare Elite): Add me on QQ.
I have some things to tell you.
My QQ is ********.
Huh?
Who is this person?
Mo Fei found the ID somewhat unfamiliar, but after a moment’s thought, he decided to see what the other person had to say, and so he added that QQ number.
The other person’s QQ avatar was a black panther, and the name was Shadowfang.
Shadowfang: “I’ve actually had similar dreams, and it was more than just dreams.
I originally didn’t want to say anything, but it sounds like you might have encountered something similar to me.”
Morphis: “Go on, I’m listening.”
Shadowfang: “When I first played the monster template of a beast-type black panther, you should know, playing as a beast-type monster is the most dangerous and hardcore.
It’s basically ‘jungle battle royale’ mode.”
Morphis: “I know.”
Mo Fei was well aware of this; other monsters could at least rely on their own kind, but beast-type monsters were all lone wolves.
Even within the same beast category, different types would attack and kill each other.
Add Adventurers and other monsters to the mix, and the gameplay was incredibly thrilling.
Moreover, controlling a beast was troublesome, a point that applied to most non-humanoid monsters.
Of course, beasts had their advantages too; they started with relatively high attributes and commonly had the ability to regain Health Points by devouring flesh.
Shadowfang: “When I first played as a black panther, I died a lot.
After dying many times, I summarized some experience.
The key was to change the thought process.
You can’t think like a human when playing a beast; you have to think like a beast.
Then I decided to fully immerse myself in my game character, to face the world with the mentality of a beast.
I became extremely vigilant, never overlooking any rustle of leaves or grass.
I trusted no one, wandered alone in the shadows, only striking when I was absolutely sure.
I became good at observing, hiding, and waiting.
At the same time, I was cold-blooded and decisive.
In reality, I am actually a very cheerful person, but during that period, I became gloomy, and even my family said I seemed neurotic.”
Some even said my eyes looked like those of a killer.
Maybe so, but to play the game well, I went all-in.
I constantly hunted, fought, gained experience, and devoured my prey.
I actually enjoyed returning to those raw, bestial instincts.
Later, I even evolved into a rare elite, getting my own name.
I called myself ‘Shadowfang.’
Many people knew me, especially Hunters who wanted to capture me as a pet.
I had more and more enemies, but I didn’t care.
Those Adventurers, no matter how high their level or how good their equipment, their thinking didn’t change at all.
They still treated it as an ordinary game.
But I had fully adapted to the black panther’s body and abilities, becoming a true ‘hunter.’ I walked in the dark, lurked patiently, and struck decisively.
I became more and more proficient until they all died at my hands.
It was during that time that I began to dream often, dreaming that I had become a black panther, that I had become ‘Shadowfang.’
At first, I didn’t pay much attention to it until these changes began to affect real life.
I started to develop a liking for eating fish, eating medium-rare steaks, sleeping during the day and working at night, and I also became very energetic.
I still didn’t take it too seriously until one night when I woke up and found myself standing in front of the refrigerator, holding a box of fresh meat, with more than half of the raw meat inside gone—I had eaten a whole kilogram of raw meat…”
