Chapter 25: Drawing Her Blood
Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Drawing Her Blood
[...]
The night was deep.
Sophie Sullivan lay on the bed, her mind still somewhat hazy. Her escape attempt had failed, as had her attempt to injure Thomas Shannon. For these two crimes, she truly deserved whatever punishment awaited her.Surprisingly, she was now lying on the bed, safe and sound, without having suffered any punishment. This made her extremely uneasy. Thomas Shannon was cold-hearted and ruthless; he would not easily let off anyone who wanted to kill him.
Late that night, chaotic and hurried footsteps were heard from outside the bedroom, followed by a loud bang. The bedroom door was kicked open. The door panel slammed against the wall, the impact producing a deafening noise.
Men in black burst in, roughly pulling Sophie from the bed and dragging her out.
Inside the brilliantly lit castle, servants bustled about as the men in black dragged Sophie upstairs and brought her to a bedroom.
"Young Master, we’ve brought her."
Inside the bedroom, several doctors in white lab coats were reporting the latest situation to Thomas Shannon. Hearing this, Thomas Shannon raised his hand, signaling the doctors to pause.
In a flat voice that betrayed no emotion, he said, "Bring her in."
Receiving the order, the men in black dragged Sophie into the bedroom.
Sophie, who had been fearful and sleepless all night, had a haggard complexion. Her eyes were unfocused, as if they had lost their clarity.
"Charlie River, what’s her blood type?"
Charlie River glanced at Sophie. "Young Master, her last examination showed she is indeed Type A blood."
Without wasting words, Thomas Shannon flicked his cigarette ash. "Draw her blood," he ordered.
The doctors immediately nodded. "Yes, Young Master."
Thomas Shannon stood up. His tall, imposing figure looked past the others at the woman lying on the bed. His eyes darkened. "Whatever it takes, spare no expense—she must be saved!"
The intelligence hasn’t been obtained yet. Minimus Hart cannot die.
Thomas Shannon stubbed out his cigarette butt and left without a sideways glance. From beginning to end, he never once looked directly at Sophie.
Before Sophie had a chance to think, the doctors had already begun drawing her blood with great efficiency. The needle pierced her blood vessel. The pain made her want to shrink away, but she was roughly held down by one of the men in black, who gripped her shoulders and scolded, "Behave! Don’t move!"
That night, a total of 600 CC of blood was drawn from Sophie. The color drained from her face, and she began to feel dizzy. A wave of profound weakness, a feeling of being utterly depleted, surged from deep within her.
She was like a mobile blood bank; once the blood was drawn, she was cast aside. She couldn’t leave yet.Until the wounded woman lying on the bed was out of danger, Sophie could not depart.
All night long, Sophie could only sit on the sofa. She was exhausted and on the verge of falling asleep.
In a daze, she was suddenly jolted awake by a slap from one of the men in black. "Come with us!" he ordered.
Sophie numbly got up and followed the men in black to the scenic lake in the flower garden. A few crocodiles were lying on the shallow shore. Servants, holding brushes and water hoses, were scrubbing the crocodiles’ bodies.
Sophie stood motionless. One of the men in black pushed her shoulder, shoving her forward.
"You want me to scrub this?"
"This is your task." One of the men in black thrust a brush into her hand and then passed her the hose. "Take it."
Sophie scoffed, grabbed the brush, and turned towards the crocodiles. The crocodiles lying on the shallow shore appeared harmless and docile, but Sophie knew that wasn’t the case.Otherwise, the servants wouldn’t be so cautious and tense-looking.Clearly, the servants were also afraid.
Sophie chose a relatively small crocodile and slowly approached it. The crocodile remained motionless. Only then did she feel at ease enough to continue approaching, though she didn’t get too close, maintaining a safe distance.
