Chapter 98: You don’t deserve it

Chapter 98: Chapter 98: You don’t deserve it

Laura’s eyes blazed with intensity, her jaw tightly set as she glared right at me, an angry expression etched onto her face. I watched with wide eyes as she marched over to the stand in front of me, crossing the space between us in just a few strides.

She leaned in closer, her face hovered just inches away from mine. "Who do you think you are?!" She sneered with a disdainful scorn, spitting the words out like they were poison in her mouth.

I let out a breath and reached up to wipe the tears that were lingering at the brim of my eyes. "I’m the mother of my child," I replied firmly as I kept my gaze steady on her. "What are you doing here?" I questioned, my tone carrying a sharp edge to it.

It was at this moment when Blake rushed in behind her, his eyes darting around, scanning the space before they landed on me and we locked eyes. "And I’m the father of our child," he chimed in. "How could you try and hold a funeral service for our son without letting me know? Who gave you the right to do this without first consulting me?! After all, I am still the father!" He yelled, raising his voice this time, his tone laced with anger.

A cold chuckle left my lips with an incredulous look plastered across my face. Standing just next to me, Xavier’s face darkened significantly and his fists were clenched tightly beside him, and even his knuckles were starting to turn white from the pressure.

He stepped forward in Blake’s direction, his eyes boring directly into Blake’s cold blue eyes, forcing him to move back. Before I could say a word in retaliation to Blake, Xavier’s voice boomed loudly, echoing in the room. His deep voice dropped to a hush and deadly whisper, his tone was heavy with a threat.

"Try yelling at her one more time and see what happens," he warned through gritted teeth, their faces now dangerously close.

Witnessing the scene before her eyes, a frown crept onto Laura’s face within the next second and her brows were furrowed together in concern. She quickly stepped forward, her fingers wrapped around her son as she pulled him back in an instant, creating a distance between them. "Are you crazy?" She snarled, glancing over at Xavier with wide eyes swimming with anger. "Who are you to threaten my son?"

"I can do a whole lot more than just threaten him," he retorted, the words that left his lips were coated with a thick layer of malice and rage was spreading inside of him like a wildfire. There was a brief moment of pause as silence lapsed between them before he broke it once again. "Do you want to find out?"

Laura looked up at him, shock crossed her face as she stared at him with disbelief written all over her face. She cleared her throat audibly, letting a loud scoff erupt from her throat this time. "Are you seriously trying to threaten me now?" She asked with a raised brow.

She continued. "Don’t forget that you are just the man who married a woman who was pregnant with another man’s child! And the worst part is, she couldn’t even keep the baby," she hissed, eyeing me with disdain.

As soon as the words left her lips, rage surged through my body in an instant in an uncontrollable manner. Before I knew it, my arm was high up in the air and it came striking down on Laura’s cheek in a split second.

She stumbled back a couple of steps, and stared at me with shock swirling in the depths of her eyes as she was rendered speechless at that moment.

"Don’t you dare bring my son into this," I demanded through gritted teeth, as my voice shook with anger and I glared at her, my eyes filled with pure rage and contempt. "You have the audacity to show up here today. Couldn’t you just let me send my son off in peace? Why must you come here and ruin everything?! What the hell is wrong with you people?" I screamed, my voice faltering towards the end of the sentence as my sharp voice pierced through the tension that was brewing in the air.

Blake’s eyes widened with anger as he watched the scene unfold before him. "Did you just slap my mother? You are driving me crazy, Aurelia. Did you lose your fucking mind?!"

I didn’t say another word at that moment as I only raised my hand to slap him across his cheek as well. A loud yelp escaped from his parted lips and a surprise gasp left Laura’s lips too when she realised what had just happened.

"What the hell!" She shrieked. She rushed to his side, rubbing his face gently with a concerned look plastered across her face before she turned back to face me, her eyes met mine. "You bitch! You will pay for this!" She cussed, narrowing her eyes into thin slits as she glared at me with anger.

"I’m serious, Laura," I started, certainty filling my voice as I kept my gaze on her the entire time, never once breaking eye contact. "I want you and Blake to leave right this second. You two don’t deserve to be here."

Laura let out a loud scoff and so did Blake.

"Don’t deserve to be here?" She repeated, tossing my words right back at me, clearly agitated. "What makes you say that? No matter what, Blake is still the father of the child."

"Exactly," Blake chimed in in agreement with his mother.

"But he never acted like one," I answered, my voice cold and icy as I recalled the past times and the day at the hospital. "Just leave, I won’t let either of you see him," I insisted, my dark eyes gleaming with a mixture of determination and defiance.

Blake was at a loss of words for a moment and I could see the way the gears in his head were shifting as he thought of what to say next. "I could sue you for this, you know that right?" He threatened this time, as his lips were pressed into a thin line and he stared at me.

I was unfazed by his threat. "Go ahead," I urged. "And I will make sure to sue you for trespassing private property and harassment."

"Do it. My son is rich now, he is earning good money from his job and I will be sure that he finds the best lawyer in town if needed. I’m not worried about your little threat," she spat. "Now, let me see my grandson."

She tried to shove past me but I stuck my arm up to hold her back much to her dismay. "You are not seeing him," I repeated once again, my voice firm as the frown etched onto between her brows deepened. "Leave."

"You can’t just –"

"Did you not hear her?" Xavier’s voice reached my ears this time. "She told you two to leave," he reiterated as his gaze hardened.

"I meant every single word I said earlier," he continued as they stood there with disgruntled looks plastered across their faces, unsatisfied with the outcome. "Leave while I am still being nice."

I was back in the office soon enough. I wanted to distract myself from all the thoughts that were buzzing in my head, haunting me.

Instead, my eyes were fixated on the tiny baby clothes that were in my hands. I bought it not too long ago, I remembered when I walked past the boutique and this shirt caught my eyes effortlessly. It was still sitting in the paper bag in my office, right on my desk before I took it out. My lips were curved upwards into a bittersweet smile as I held the shirt close to my chest, my eyes began to water.

A single tear drop fell down my flushed cheeks and I lowered my head, taking in a deep breath as I let the silence engulf me.

I heard a knock and the door creaked open.

"Aurelia...?" The familiar voice reached my ears, his tone was laced with a hint of concern. The door closed shut and soft footsteps echoed in the office space as someone walked towards me. I finally looked up this time, it was Xavier. When he saw what I was clutching in my hands and the tears in my eyes, he wrapped his arms around me, letting me cry however much I wanted to.

"Maybe they were right..." I muttered under my breath. "Maybe it was my fault that I lost my child."

"Hey, don’t say that. It’s not your fault. It’s never your fault. Believe me," he said as his thumb reached up to wipe the tears coming down my face.

"If I didn’t say anything and left the washroom back then, maybe the argument wouldn’t have escalated and I wouldn’t have lost him."

"No, no. Don’t blame yourself for someone’s rash actions. Stella pushed you in a fit of anger, didn’t she? It’s her fault, not yours."

I sniffled. "She did... but there’s nothing I can do about it," I said in a defeated tone. "There’s no evidence of her doing anything to me at all."

"That’s alright. We don’t need that to mess with her and ruin her life. You have a plan don’t you? It’s time we do something about it."

There was a knock on the door. "Aurelia, there is a delivery for you."
