Chapter 94: An invitation
Chapter 94: Chapter 94: An invitation
There was another brief pause as it seemed for a second that his words had gotten to my mother. She was dumbfounded for a while, not knowing what to say and I could almost see the gears in her head shifting as she was wringing her hands together.
One would have thought that she was actually hiding something, that there was indeed a true motive behind all of her actions, but no one found out about it just yet.
Thoughts and questions were swirling in my mind like a damn hurricane at that moment when my mother scoffed loudly, snapping me back to reality in an instant.
There was a nonchalant look plastered across her face as she glared at Xavier. "What the hell are you talking about? I have no motive. How dare you accuse me of intentionally trying to ruin my own daughter’s life and career?!" She snarled as rage spread through her body like a wildfire.
Evelyn decided to chime in too as well, of course she was siding my mother with a slight smirk playing on her lips. "Exactly, how could you say such things, Xavier?" She asked with a deep frown etched onto her face and her lips pursed. "The auntie Jennifer I know wouldn’t do this on purpose," she added, her words of support putting a smile on my mother’s face as she held onto her arm.
He arched a brow at her, letting out a low chuckle. "Oh, really? What she did here today says otherwise."
She narrowed her eyes into thin slits, glaring at him. "You don’t know what you are talking about!"
"That’s enough!" I found myself shouting this time, my sharp voice piercing through the tension that was lingering in the air between us and gasps rose from the crowd. I sucked in a deep breath and stared right into her eyes. "We know exactly what we are talking about. I think the two of you have done enough today. Please leave, I just want to finish this interview."
There was silence that settled among us as the crowd continued to watch with anticipation, waiting to see what they would say.
"We are not leaving here until you apologise for what you said!" My mother demanded through gritted teeth, her voice laced with contempt as she kept her eyes on me.
"Fine," I said coldly with an indifferent look plastered across my face. For a second, my quick agreement shocked her, putting a surprised look on her face but it was quickly replaced with disbelief when I let the next few words roll off the tip of my tongue. "I will apologise for what I said if you apologise for what you did to me and Xavier."
My mother’s eyes widened with displease upon hearing the words that left my lips. "I... I..." she stammered, not knowing what to say. "I didn’t do anything wrong," she insisted, her tone filled with certainty as she kept her chin up.
"I told you that I did it for your own good, why couldn’t you understand that?" She continued explaining, her voice laced with a hint of desperation.
"It wasn’t for my own good," I snapped with frustration and clicked my tongue.
"I–"
"You know it yourself best," I interrupted before she could finish her sentence, my voice cold and icy. "You don’t have to try to explain and defend yourself. I have heard all of your excuses. I don’t think you will be saying anything new this time," I retorted and watched as her face turned red with anger while she clenched her jaws tightly and glared at me with a fiery blaze.
"They are not excuses!" Her shrill voice reached my ears, echoing in the studio.
I ignored her yells, and turned to face the guards who were only standing there and watching the entire time, because the host had stopped them earlier. We locked eyes from a distance this time. "Guards, could you please help to take these people out of the studio?" I asked in a calm demeanour as my expression remained stoic.
They nodded and quickly sprung to action, marching over to my mother and Evelyn. I didn’t care if people thought I was heartless or ruthless, I didn’t care about anything at all to be honest. All I knew was that I didn’t want to see their faces in the crowd.
I watched coldly as they were taken out of the studio in no time and the doors shut behind them, leaving an uncomfortable silence that settled among everyone here. I spun on my heels, turning around to walk back and plopped back down onto the chair prepared specially for me.
I turned to face the host who was still shocked and also excited at the same time and I let our gaze meet.
"So, you were asking about the thought process behind my artwork?"

Later that night when we were both lying in bed, the soft ding of my phone echoed in the room and reached my ears. My eyes naturally flickered down to glance at the screen of my phone and phone that someone had sent me a text.
Without thinking too much about it, I clicked into it to quickly find out that it was a text sent by my ex-husband, Blake. A frown crept onto my face to rest between my brows within the next second as I read the text.
I will be helping to direct and film one of the sets and I would like to invite you to come down to the studio tomorrow morning. Here’s the address.
I was staring at it intensely, the frown on my face deepening as the gears in my head started shifting and my mind buzzed with thoughts.
Curious, Xavier leaned over to look at my phone. "What’s that?"
"It’s Blake," I said. "He is inviting me to go down to the studio to watch him direct one of the sets."
He raised a brow. "Are you going?"
I thought about it for a while before I nodded. "Yeah," I muttered under my breath. "I think this might be a good opportunity to make more connections and really work on that revenge plan," I commented as a smirk started to tug at the corners of my lips and my eyes gleamed with a knowing look
A low chuckle left his lips. "That’s true."
That was how I found myself standing face to face with my ex-husband with a smile etched onto my face.
"Hey, Blake."
