Pampered by my Billionaire CEO Husband -
Chapter 89: The police is here!
Chapter 89: Chapter 89: The police is here!
I looked up to see that the police had burst through the doors, leaving a loud bang that echoed through the exhibition hall. It was almost as if it was a scene right out of an action movie. Their faces each bore a serious expression and a frown was etched between their brows as their eyes swept over the crowd that formed.
The people who witnessed everything shifted their gaze anxiously with a hint of excitement twinkling in their eyes. And soon enough, they broke into whispers and murmurs once again, the atmosphere remained tense.
Despite my racing heart, my dark eyes were gleaming with a knowing look while a smirk appeared on Evelyn’s lips and her eyes lit up the moment she noticed the police officers standing in front of us.
"Oh my god... the police are here..." one pointed out, his low voice laced with anticipation.
"Are they here to arrest her?" Another questioned with a raised brow while the woman beside her nodded.
"It must be! Who else could it be? I bet his wife called the cops on her, after all, she did just assault him."
Endless speculation filled the air in an instant and to say it was chaotic, was an understatement.
As if on cue, I watched as the police officers marched towards me, closing the gap between us in a few large strides in no more than a few seconds. The officer right before me and we locked eyes as silence lapsed between us momentarily, causing the smirk that was plastered across Evelyn’s face to widen, thinking I was about to get arrested. But instead, the officer only looked concerned.
"Mrs Wilder," he began. "Are you okay?" He questioned, a hint of worry laced his voice but he was just being professional and asking the questions he needed to.
I nodded with a slight smile etched onto my face.
"I’m okay," I said and Xavier reached down to interlace his fingers with mine.
I watched from the corners of my eyes as Evelyn’s face fell in a split second and the smirk was wiped off her face in an instant, replaced with a puzzled expression and a deep frown. It was clear that she had mistakenly thought that the police must have been here for me, just like everyone else who also had the same confused look swirling in the depths of their eyes.
The rest of the officers behind walked past me and headed straight towards Henry who was still on the ground, grimacing in pain from the aftermath.
As the officers approached him and got closer, Estella shifted herself to shield her husband from the officers. Spreading her arms out wide, her eyes widened as she remained on guard. "What do you think you are doing?" Her shrill voice carried a slight edge to it, but mostly it was fear and worry. Her eyes darted around nervously as her lips were pressed into a thin line.
They ignored her. "Henry Jones, you are under arrest for suspicion of bribery and sexual harassment," the officer announced, her words shocking everyone at the scene.
"No, you are not arresting my husband and taking him away from me!" Estella screamed this time, her voice cracking towards the end of the sentence, desperation evident in her shaky voice. "He didn’t do anything wrong! This must be some kind of mistake or misunderstanding!" She continued to proclaim, believing that her husband must be innocent.
"Ma’am, please step aside," one of the officers demanded, her voice steady as their gazes matched. "We need you to cooperate with us."
Estella shook her head vigorously. "No, why do I need to cooperate with you?" The frown resting between her brows deepened as she glared at them and her eyes were narrowed into thin slits. Seeing that the officers wouldn’t budge, she lowered her head and muttered under her breath. "No... this can’t be real... this is just a nightmare..."
Left with no choice, one of the officers had to pull her aside while the rest tried to hold Henry down. They grabbed his arms forcefully, twisting and pushing them behind his back before they pushed him down, letting his cheek press against the cold hard ground. His voice was muffled as a loud yelp emerged from his throat and pain shot through his body.
"What do you think you are doing?!" He spat, his voice dripping with malice. They then pulled him up from the ground despite his struggles and protests, and he was now standing on both his feet.
"Hey! Let me go!" He protested as he continued to shove and push against the officers’ tight hold on him while Xavier and I watched with amusement dancing in our dark eyes and a slight smirk tugging at the corners of our lips. "I’m innocent, I didn’t do anything wrong! You are making a grave mistake!" He yelled again this time, his voice heavy with a threat.
A cold chuckle left my lips as I watched on. "You were the one who made the grave mistake. You touched me and threatened me, do you remember?" I snarled as I kept my eyes fixed on him, watching his eyes burn with a fiery blaze.
"I did not touch you! It did not mean anything!" He retorted, his voice held a sense of urgency. "Tell them! Tell the officers it was nothing!" He pleaded desperately with wide eyes but the officers’ grip on him only tightened while Estella watched with tears glistening in her light green eyes.
Xavier’s eyes darkened as he clenched his jaw. "You know what you did, Jones."
"Exactly. I’m not going to lie to the police," I stated, my voice icy as my expression remained indifferent and cold as Henry’s desperate eyes held mine captive. There was a brief pause before I continued. "And don’t forget, you accepted Mr Lloyd’s bribe to feature his daughter’s art at the exhibition too," I reminded crudely, a slight smile playing on my lips.
"I returned the money back to her! It doesn’t count!" He blurted out before he could even stop himself and a hint of regret flashed past his eyes the moment he realised it a tad bit too late.
A soft gasp left Evelyn’s lips as her eyes grew wide and anger pulsed through every single vein in her body.
"Wait... is she saying that Evelyn’s father tried to bribe Jones? That’s pathetic!" A voice emerged from the crowd when realisation finally dawned upon them.
"Is her art really that bad that she needed to bribe her way through?" Another snickered, casting Evelyn a judgemental stare before breaking into a smile. "I can’t believe she would do something like this...She should be ashamed of herself!"
Upon hearing the insults and accusations being hurled right at her, she clenched her fists tightly by her side and her features hardened. She jutted her finger out to point at Henry.
"Don’t go spouting nonsense!" She demanded through gritted teeth as her voice trembled with rage. "I know nothing about this, it wasn’t me who bribed him, I wasn’t involved at all!"
"You know damn well what happened," he hissed as his eyes narrowed at her and the officers continued to pull him away from the crowd.
"Move it. Jones," one of the officers instructed.
Estella broke free from the officer’s grip and ran towards her husband, tugging and pulling, trying to get him to break free too. But she was quickly held back and she could only watch helplessly as her husband was taken away with a defeated look on her face.
"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
The crowd parted to make way and everyone watched as the officers led Henry out of the exhibition hall in handcuffs with his head hung low while his wife screamed and cried.
She whipped her head around and we locked eyes. "How could you be so heartless?!" She spat, the words that left her lips were coated with a thick layer of venom as she eyed me with an intense look in her eyes. "It is your fault that my husband is being taken away!" As soon as those words left her lips, she turned around and chased after her husband who was already being shoved into the backseat of the police car.
I looked her right in her eyes. "It is his own fault, Estella."

It didn’t take too long for the news to reach me.
It was only the next morning when I found out that a few other women, all aspiring artists just like me, came forward and spoke out against Jones. He was quickly fired from his job, losing his title and arrested for sexual harassment charges and also found guilty of accepting bribes over the course of his career.
Xavier couldn’t hold back his snicker when he saw the news, a satisfied smirk appeared on his lips in the next second. "He deserves it, that bastard."
A soft chuckle left my lips too. "You are right..." my voice trailed off. "He definitely does."
I couldn’t be happier. The bad guy got his punishment and everything was going well. But that was only until the next day when I walked into the same exhibition hall and my eyes landed on a woman destroying my painting that was hanging on the wall.
"What are you doing?!"
