Pampered by my Billionaire CEO Husband -
Chapter 87: Mrs Jones
Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Mrs Jones
The loud booming voice captured everyone’s attention effortlessly.
Everyone including myself whipped our heads around, our curious eyes filled with anticipation scanned the room in a hurry before it finally landed on an unfamiliar face.
Standing by the main entrance to the exhibition hall was a lady who looked like she was around her 40s. She was clad in a long black dress. She had long silky blonde hair tied back into a half updo and her light green gleamed with an intense look swirling in the depths of her eyes. Her lips were curled upwards into an angry expression that masked her sharp features as we locked eyes.
From the corners of my eyes, I could see the smirk starting to morph itself onto Evelyn’s face. I was sure she planned all of this, it was no wonder she had that smug and arrogant look plastered across her face the moment she walked into this place.
It was right there and then when it clicked in my head and realisation dawned upon me. This must have been Mrs Jones, Henry’s wife. I was certain she saw the picture of her husband and I and immediately accused me of seducing her husband, falling for the rumours that spread around like a wildfire that couldn’t be tamed. She was the type of woman who only blamed the other woman, but never her own husband.
Before I knew it, she was already marching towards me, closing the distance between us in long, large strides, no more than a couple of seconds. Soon enough, she was standing face to face with me, so close that I could see the freckles that dotted her face and the wrinkles in her forehead.
Everyone else held their breaths and watched, waiting to see how the situation would unfold next as tension hung in the air between us like a thick blanket.
"You shameless slut!" Her shrill voice pierced through the air, her tone dripping with accusation as she narrowed her eyes into thin slits. I watched as she raised her arm in the heat of a moment as impulse clouded her judgement and her face darkened in an instant.
Her palm was only inches away from my cheek when I reached up and wrapped my fingers around her wrist. Gasps erupted from the crowd. I tightened my grasp around her arm, holding her back as I kept my gaze steady and my voice remained unwavering. I arched my brow at her as I let the words roll off the tip of my tongue.
"I think you got it wrong, Mrs Jones," I declared, my tone laced with certainty as I never once tore my eyes off her or backed down.
"Are you crazy?!" Her high-pitched voice rang in my ears as she stared at me like she wanted me dead and buried six feet under. "Let go of my arm! Do you have a death wish?!" She threatened as her cheeks now turned red from anger.
I kept my hold on her. "Like I told you earlier... I wasn’t the one who seduced your husband," I insisted and this time, I finally released my grip on her arm, letting it fall back down to her side forcefully.
She let out a loud scoff this time as she glared at me with the same intense look as before.
"Why would I believe you?" She taunted as she raised her perfectly groomed brow at me. "I saw the pictures, I believe you have seen them too, right? How would you explain that?" She leaned closer towards me and I remained rooted to the ground.
She turned her attention to the crowd that surrounded us this time, seeking their support before I could utter another word. "You guys saw the pictures too, right? Was I wrong to say that this woman over here..." she trailed off, her tone laced with malice as she jutted out her finger and pointed at me. "She was the one who seduced my husband... Why else would he be touching her? She must have done something!" she accused me this time.
A cold chuckle escaped my parted lips. "I saw the pictures," I began. "But the reporters got it all wrong though."
She snapped her head back around to meet my gaze. She squinted her eyes, a frown starting to form between her brows, deepening the creases in her forehead. "What are you trying to say here?" She spat the words out like they were poison in her mouth. "Don’t try to play smug with me," she sneered with a disdainful scorn as she eyed me with great disdain.
A smirk tugged at the corners of my lips. "I’m not," there was a short pause as silence stretched between us for a brief moment and tension continued to brew in the air. "All I was trying to say is that your husband was the one who touched me without my consent," I revealed and loud gasps filled the room and looks of surprise crossed their faces within a split second.
I saw the way her face fell and shock flashed past her eyes for the first time. It was almost as if she believed the words that left my lips for a second there, but it didn’t take long before that shock turned into anger. She balled up her fists up tightly beside her and clenched her jaws as she glared at me.
"My husband did not touch you first!" She screamed out loud in denial, her body and voice shook with rage that was coursing through her body at that moment. She stepped forward once again. "I’m certain you did something," she hissed.
Another low chuckle left my lips once more. "Oh, yeah you are right," I agreed nonchalantly, unfazed by her threats and accusations hurled right at me. "I did do something. I told him that someone else would appreciate my art and not see me as a piece of meat after he threatened to take away my spot at this exhibition because I wouldn’t let him touch me."
It was at this moment when all hell broke loose. Gasps were much louder than before while murmurs and whispers started to fill the place almost instantly.
"Oh my god... is that true? Is what she said true?"
"That man is a disgusting creep! Ugh!"
"Exactly! I can’t believe he would do something like this!"
It was like a flip of the switch, suddenly everyone was on my side and my eyes flickered over to see the smirk that was once on Evelyn’s face started to falter and fade away. Maybe they could hear it in my voice that I wasn’t lying, after all, why would I lie about something so serious just to get myself fucked in the end?
She took a while to process my words but I knew for a fact that she still couldn’t believe me even if she wanted to. I’m sure they have kids and she wasn’t willing to let go of this marriage all because of ’one mistake’. I don’t blame her.
She looked up to meet my eyes this time, her eyes shifting around anxiously and I could see the way the gears were shifting in her head as she struggled to come to terms with reality and accept the truth that was thrown right at her.
"No..." her voice trailed off, faltering towards the end. "I don’t believe you. You are making these up! There is no way! He isn’t that kind of person, I know him! We have been married for almost 2 whole decades now, he wouldn’t do this, he wouldn’t do this to me!" I could tell that she was absolutely losing her mind.
I exhaled deeply as I let out a breath and I reached out to put my hand on her shoulder. "I’m telling the truth. He was the one who touched me first and then threatened me, I wanted nothing to do with it."
She angrily pushed my hand off her shoulder and shoved at me, causing me to stumble backwards a couple of steps before I felt someone catch me. "Woah there, don’t you dare push her!" The voice warned. I looked up to find myself staring into the pair of familiar dark brown eyes. Xavier was looking down at me with concern and worry swimming in his eyes. "You alright?"
I steadied myself and straightened my posture. "Yeah, I’m okay." My eyes gazed over to look at the woman who was still pacing up and down as she kept her head hung low while she muttered to herself, words that I couldn’t seem to make out or understand.
"It can’t be true..." I heard her mumble to herself this time.
Xavier gritted his teeth as he glared at me with narrowed eyes and an intense look etched onto his face.
"It is true! Face it!" He demanded as his eyes burned with a fiery blaze before he let the next few words leave his lips.
"I have proof that your husband did it."
