Chapter 177: Did you do it?
Chapter 177: Chapter 177: Did you do it?
I whipped my head around within the next second and my eyes landed on none other than my ex-husband, Blake Carson. Of course he had to appear at my office again, I need to make a mental note to ban him from ever appearing here ever again.
His icy blue eyes were burning with fury as he marched towards me with his fists clenched tightly beside him. He closed the distance between us in a few large strides, stopping just right in front of me.
A cold chuckle left my parted lips as we locked eyes and I kept my gaze steady. "I was happy until you showed up... here," I retorted, my tone laced with a hint of disgust and frustration.
A bitter chuckle emerged from his throat as he looked at me.
"Funny," he deadpanned.
It was only now did I realise that he looked like a...mess. His long blonde locks were dishevelled and messy, the dark circles under his eyes were growing darker and he looked as though he hadn’t slept in weeks. To say that he looked miserable was an understatement.
He leaned in closer towards me, his face now merely inches away from mine as his eyes were narrowed into thin slits. I could feel the heat of his fury and anger radiating off every inch of his skin but I didn’t budge, remained rooted to where I was standing.
"It is your fault that I ended up in this state!" He shouted, his loud voice echoing in the lobby and dripping with accusation. People turned to fix their attention on us, their faces plastered with looks of anticipation and their eyes twinkling with curiosity. "Because of you, I lost my job, my career and future is ruined! Everybody hates me now!" He yelled, his voice cracking towards the end of the sentence.
I looked at him, my expression remained cold and indifferent. "How is it my fault that your career and future is ruined?" I questioned as I arched my brow at him. "I didn’t do anything, did I?"
He snorted as his eyes grew wide with anger. "Didn’t do anything?" He repeated, tossing my words right back at me with an incredulous look etched onto his face. "You were the one who called the police on us and you were the one who tipped off the paparazzi," he said, spitting the words out like they were poison in his mouth.
But the truth is, he didn’t have any evidence to prove it at all.
"Is this all part of your revenge?" He continued to question me, his tone carrying a sharp edge to it, slicing through the tension that was lingering in the air between us. "Because you are angry at me or jealous of me for whatever fucking reason!"
Silence stretched between us for a brief moment before I let the words leave the tip of my tongue.
"Angry at you? Yeah," I admitted. "I used to be. Mad at you for always choosing your first love over me, mad at you for never spending any time with me or caring about me."
He was looking at me with wide eyes, maybe even a hint of shame and guilt flashed past his eyes for a split second before it quickly faded. He remained silent, simply watching me with a blank expression that masked his features.
"But jealous of you? Never," I stated. "I’m not the woman you used to know. I’m not the woman who stayed home to tend to your needs and make you meals, waiting for you to get home after work."
A laughter slipped through the gaps of my fingers. "I am the vice President of a multi-million company. Why would I ever be jealous of you?"
I watched as anger and rage spread inside of him like a wildfire he couldn’t seem to control. "What are you trying to say?" He asked, stepping forward as he reached out to wrap his fingers around my wrist in a tight grip as he glared at me.
I yanked my arm out of his grip as I maintained a calm demeanour. "I’m just saying that I am not jealous of you. What happened between us..." I said, gesturing between the two of us. "Was over long ago. Why would I need revenge? Leaving you was the best decision I have ever made in my life."
As soon as the words left my lips, his palm came down to slap me across my cheek without a single warning as a loud gasp erupted from the crowd.
I turned back around to meet his eyes that were burning with anger. The corners of my lips were twisted upwards into the smirk. Before anyone could utter another word, I too raised my arm and slapped him right across his face as hard as I could.
An even louder gasp rose from the crowd. Whispers and murmurs began to fill the place as the air crackled with unspoken tension.
"Did you just slap me?" He asked, his voice shaking from anger as we locked eyes.
"What else did you think I did?"
He gritted his teeth. "You–!"
I punched him right in his stomach, and before he could even react, I lifted my knee and kicked him right in his crotch. Looks of surprise and shock crossed everyone’s face as they watched while a loud yelp left his lips. I watched with a satisfied smile as he tumbled over in pain and collapsed onto the ground in an instant.
He lifted his head to look at me, his face still wore a pained expression.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?! You crazy bitch!" He cussed, his hands still covering his crotch as he winced in pain.
I let a smile grace my lips as I looked down to meet his eyes.
"Yeah, maybe I am." Silence lapsed between us for a while before my words broke the silence. "I wish you all the best in your future endeavours, Blake Carson," I said before spinning on my heels and walking away.
