Chapter 173: Chapter 173: You might want to hear this
The second those words left Evelyn’s lips, she was starting to regret being so impulsive and reckless in choosing to blurt out those very words despite the wave of satisfaction that had washed over her less than a second ago.
Natalie took in a sharp breath as she felt her heart sink to the pit of her stomach within the next second. Her mind was busy trying to register the words that just left her lips while James was sitting beside her in a daze, his mind too, was racing with thoughts and questions.
"Wait, I didn’t –" Evelyn tried to backtrack and take her words back but it was much too late. Natalie interrupted, cutting her off before she could even complete her sentence.
They locked eyes as tension brewed in the air between them, hanging in the air like a thick blanket.
It finally clicked inside of her head and realisation dawned upon her as the image of Aurelia’s bandaged arm popped into her head at that moment. "So it was you..." She muttered softly under her breath, still trying to come to terms with reality. "You tried to run her over? Have you lost your mind?!" She shouted, raising her voice this time as her words shook with anger and her eyes grew wide.
"I... I was just..." Evelyn stammered, struggling to find the right words to say.
"Eve," James began as he dragged his eyes over to look at her. "What have you done? Why would you do that?" He questioned, the words that left his lips were heavy and a look of disappointment was plastered across his face. This was the first time he didn’t jump to defend her immediately like he had always done. "I trusted you when you said it was an accident, I didn’t think that this is something you planned and did on purpose."
At this moment, Evelyn’s face darkened visibly as she clenched her jaws tightly. Without a single warning, she slammed both her hands onto the metal table in front of her, the loud banging sound echoing inside the small room. Anger flashed past her dark green eyes as rage spread inside of her like a wildfire she couldn’t seem to control.
"I knew it," she sneered, letting a scoff erupt from her throat as her eyes darted around. A bitter smile was lingering on her lips as the words left a sour taste in her mouth. "You only care about Aurelia now that you find out that she’s your real daughter! You don’t care about me anymore, you have changed!" She shouted, her voice cracking towards the end of the sentence as the words that left her lips were dripping with accusation.
Her eyes were filled with disdain not only for Aurelia but her parents too as she glared at them with an intense look swirling in the depths of her eyes.
A cold chuckle left Natalie’s parted lips. "You are right, Aurelia is our biological daughter, that is a fact that simply cannot be changed. But that doesn’t mean we don’t care about you or love you any less. I can’t believe you would do such a thing," she said with disbelief written all over her face as she kept her gaze steady. "How could you do that? How could you try and kill her, Evelyn?"
"I didn’t know you were capable of murder, Eve," James muttered under his breath, a grim expression masked his features.
"I didn’t murder anyone! Nobody died!" She proclaimed, straining her voice as she yelled loudly.
"You tried to kill Aurelia," he pointed out, somehow he began to feel concern and worry for the daughter he used to despise. "She could have died."
"Why do you two care about her so much?!" She shouted, her eyes running wild with emotions. She clenched her fists together tightly, her fingernails pressing into her palms. "And so what if I did do that? So what if she died? She deserved it! I was just trying to protect what’s mine to begin with! What’s so wrong about that?" She defended her actions, thinking that she had done nothing wrong at all.
Her parents were staring at her speechless as she continued on. "Knowing Aurelia, she would have tried to steal everyone away from me! She would take away what’s mine and I would be left with nothing, and I simply cannot let that happen! I can’t!" She screamed as she rose from her seat, her high-pitched voice piercing through the tension that was lingering in the air between them.
Seeing this, the guard immediately rushed forward to hold her back before she could do anything rash. "Miss Lloyd, we need you to calm down," the woman demanded with a serious look that was stretched across her face, and her tone filled with finality.
A loud scoff emerged from Evelyn’s lips as she rolled her eyes dramatically. "Calm down?" She repeated, her words laced with sourness. "Why should I calm down?!" She retorted through gritted teeth. A bitter laugh escaped from her parted lips as her heart was pounding loudly against her chest, threatening to burst out at any second now.
"If you don’t calm down, we will have to take you back," the guard warned, her voice remained unwavering as she kept her eyes fixed on Evelyn who was shoving against her hold.
Silence settled among them this time as the atmosphere remained tense.
"Evelyn..." Her name left her mother’s lips. "Aurelia isn’t trying to take anyone away from you. I hope one day you can understand that."
"I don’t believe you!" She shouted loudly, clearly agitated as she remained stubborn.
"Alright, that’s enough," the guard’s voice boomed loudly. With that said, the guard tightened her grip on Evelyn. "You are done for today," the guard announced.
"I hate you! I hate you all!" She screamed as they watched as the guard pulled her away and dragged her back to where she came from, disappearing behind the door.
After her confession, her parents couldn’t look at her the same again. The sweet innocent girl they thought they raised was long gone, replaced with a girl full of hatred and anger, one that is capable of going to the extreme end for the craziest reasons.
But the truth is, they still love her despite what she has done, they simply couldn’t leave her in the lurch. They hired a lawyer to fight for her case but alas, karma came for her ass and she couldn’t dodge it this time. She still had to pay for what she had done, her wealth and money can do nothing to save her now.
Evelyn was ultimately sentenced to 2 years in prison for attempted murder and reckless driving. To her, that’s an eternity, an eternity of suffering she would have been stuck in for a while now.

First Person POV
I knocked on the door and pushed it open the next second. The corners of my lips were curved upwards into a huge bright grin that was stretched across my face. My eyes landed on Xavier who was sitting up on the bed. He was on a call but his eyes lit up immediately as he glanced over at me and shot me a smile.
"Alright, bye, I will talk to you soon."
He hung up on the phone and I walked over towards him, leaning down to give him a kiss on his lips, the smile still lingering on my lips.
"Who was that?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Just a partner we have been working with," he answered casually.
A playful look gleamed in my eyes and I reached out to grab the phone from his hand and shoved it into my bag. "No answering of business calls, you are supposed to be resting," I reminded him with a tiny frown etched between my brows.
He raised both his arms up in mock surrender, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he kept his eyes on me.
"Sure, anything for my love. How is my beautiful wife doing?" He asked with a smile on his face, eliciting a soft chuckle from me.
"Your beautiful wife is not doing great. I want you back home with me," I said, jutting out my bottom lip as I pouted. "I can’t wait for you to be back this weekend."
"Well, I can’t wait too," he said, shooting me a playful wink and I knew exactly what he was insinuating and my imagination started to run wild but I quickly stopped myself.
I punched him in the arm lightly. "Don’t give me that look."
"Why not? I have been thinking about it."
I arched my brow at him, a smirk morphing itself onto my lips. "Is that so? I will give you something to look forward to this weekend then."
A deep chuckle erupted from his throat when a familiar voice pierced through the air the moment the door was pushed open.
"Guys, you might want to hear this."
