Chapter 159: That makes the two of us

Chapter 159: Chapter 159: That makes the two of us

A smirk morphed itself onto my lips as soon as the words rolled off the tip of my tongue. A wave of satisfaction washed over me within the next second and I watched as her eyes widened with anger and disbelief was written all over her face.

The air crackled with unspoken tension until her high-pitched voice pierced through the air.

"What are you trying to say, huh?!" She sneered with a disdainful scorn as contempt swirled in the depths of her eyes.

The smirk plastered across my face widened this time.

"I’m saying exactly what you are thinking," I began as my dark brown eye gleamed with a knowing look. I leaned in closer towards her, our faces were now merely inches away from one another as our gazes met. "In case you don’t know..." I drawled, savouring every syllable that left my lips as I spoke.

"I’m saying that you are the one seducing other women’s boyfriends... and husbands," I taunted. "Now you should know exactly what I am saying, right?" I taunted as a smirk tugged at the corners of my lips.

She clenched her jaws tightly as she glared at me while her eyes were narrowed into thin slits. "You!" She raised her hand but I quickly caught her wrist in my hand, wrapping my fingers around her and holding her tightly in one swift motion.

I raised my brow at her as I kept my gaze steady, holding her eyes captive. "Did I say something wrong, Stella Brooks?"

She scoffed loudly as she yanked her arm out of my grasp and glared at me with an intense look in her eyes. She lowered her voice, dropping to a hush whisper this time.

"Did you forget that I caught you acting all chummy with my boyfriend?" She asked, spitting the words out like they were poison in her mouth.

A cold chuckle erupted from my throat as I looked at her and an incredulous expression masked my features. "Did your friend tell you that? That I was acting chummy with Blake?" I asked, the words that left my lips were dripping with sarcasm. "Did your friend also tell you how I rejected him? I bet she was there watching the whole thing play out like it was some drama series, wasn’t it? Yet she couldn’t even narrate the story to you correctly."

She let out another scoff as anger quickly spread within her like a wild fire she couldn’t seem to control. "Oh please. You rejecting Blake? As if," she snarled. "I know women like you will take any chance to pounce on a man like him."

I couldn’t hold back the snicker that escaped from my lips, slipping through the gaps between my fingers. I arched my eyebrow at her.

"Pounce on a man like him?" I repeated, tossing her words right back at her and silence stretched between us like a rubber band as the words sat at the tip of my tongue. "You must be out of your mind if you think that I would pounce on that. The only man I wanna pounce on is my 6 ft 2 husband. Blake is all yours."

I could see the anger that was pulsing through every single vein inside of her as her heart was pounding loudly against her chest. My eyes flickered down to glance at her fists that were clenched tightly beside her.

"Don’t lie to me!" She shrieked as she gritted teeth and stared into my eyes. "I bet you are eyeing him for his fame and money now that he is becoming famous," she hissed, her voice laced with a hint of accusation.

A cold chuckle emerged from my lips once again. "I don’t need him for fame and money, I can do that myself," I retorted. "Can’t say the same for you though, you seem to be the one clinging onto him and dreaming of becoming the next big actress," I mocked.

"You can’t –" The words barely left her lips when we heard footsteps approaching us and a familiar voice reached my ears, slicing through the tension that was lingering in the air between us.

I whipped my head around in an instant and found myself coming face to face with Catherine. Her eyes were darting between the two of us with a slight smile etched onto her face.

"Aurelia? Stella? What are you two doing here? It’s time to eat."

Before I knew it, she closed the distance between us in a few steps and interlinked her arms with both of us and pulled us along. "Come on, let’s go," she urged in a cheery tone and we let her drag us out quietly without saying another word.

I couldn’t tell if she heard us or any part of the argument. But if she did, she did a great job in hiding it and pretending that nothing happened.

Outside, the buffet table was already set up by the corner and the place was filled with the aroma of the food that was specially catered for today.

"Let’s all welcome the star of today..." Catherine’s voice trailed off and she gestured towards me. "Aurelia and Xavier Wilder!" She announced playful with a mischievous glint twinkling in her eyes. The corners of my lips curled upwards into a smile as I gave them a wave while Xavier gave them a nod and the crowd erupted into cheers and applause.

"And of course, our dazzling actor and actress, Blake Carson and Stella Brooks!" Catherine continued to tease. Despite the bitter look, Stella forced her lips to curve upwards into a slight smile, so did Blake as the staff smiled and clapped, blissfully unaware of the situation that had unfolded not too long ago.

I let out a soft chuckle.

"Help yourself to the food guys," I said, gesturing to the table behind me with a small smile lingering on my lips. "Enjoy."

Xavier walked up to me, still clapping with an amused smile etched onto his handsome face. "The star of today... indeed," he teased with a deep chuckle and I laughed. "Come on, let’s go get my star some food," he said as he wrapped his fingers around me and pulled me along.

Xavier had just left me for one second when all of a sudden, I felt someone bumped into me and the cup that she was once holding slipped out of her hand. Without a single warning, cold liquid came dripping down my white dress, staining the front of it entirely within seconds.

Naturally, I let out a soft yelp. Everyone snapped their heads around and their attention was fixed on me as a loud gasp erupted from the crowd at that moment.

"Oh my god, I’m so sorry!" The familiar voice echoed in my ears, apologising profusely before I could even say another word. I lifted my head and looked up to find myself looking into the pair of dark brown eyes. Of course it had to be Stella. From that look on her face and the subtle smirk that disappeared from her face within a second, I knew it was for sure done intentionally. "I didn’t mean to... oh my god," she muttered under her breath as she continued to feign innocence and appear flustered in front of everyone else but I could see right through her act.

As though it had been all planned out in her head, she knew to reach for the tissues lying on the table next to us but Xavier quickly dashed over to my side with a tiny frown resting between his brows. Almost immediately, he removed his blazer and quickly put it over my shoulders to help me cover up.

He looked down at me to meet my eyes. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I’m okay, I could just get changed," I said nonchalantly. "It’s not a big deal."

Catherine rushed to chime in. "We have some clothes at the back, you can choose anything you like. I’m sure you can fit into Stella’s clothes comfortably," she said.

Somehow that irked Stella who glanced over at me for a split second before she nodded with a smile. "Yeah, of course. It’s all yours."

I spun on my heels to leave when at the last minute it appeared as though I changed my mind. "Let me grab some tissues," I mumbled softly.

Still holding onto my plate of food, I quickly turned around and stepped forward while reaching out at the same time. Catching Stella off guard, I pretended to slip on the liquid that was on the ground and fell forward, smashing the plate of food right onto her as I tried to grab onto her to catch my balance.

"Ahh! My dress!" Her high-pitched voice shrieked loudly, reverberating in the studio as she screamed. I watched as she was about to lose her cool when she realised that there were people around so she immediately kept her mouth shut.

"Oh my god, I’m so sorry Stella, I didn’t mean it. The liquid was all over the ground and I slipped," I quickly explained, trying my hardest to hold back a smirk. "It was an accident."

She forced her lips into a smile. "Yeah, no worries."

I laughed. "Guess that makes the two of us."
