Chapter 94: Promise Me One Condition

Chapter 94: Promise Me One Condition

Damian Sterling rose to stand beside Emma Hart, his presence nearly enveloping her slight frame.

Leaning in as Emma attempted to step away, Damian’s strong arms swiftly encircled her waist.

His eyes narrowed into a mischievous squint, "I’m lonely, so..." his voice, magnetic and sultry, whispered into her ear, "that’s why I came looking for you."

Emma turned, trying to pull away from the space between Damian’s body and her own. But her efforts were in vain against his strength.

Suddenly, she remembered something and yelled out, "Bailey..."

Hearing Emma’s call, Bailey dashed from afar, circling around Damian.

Bailey latched onto Damian’s pant leg, but even a large Labrador was no match for Damian.

Looking down at Bailey, Damian taunted, "You’re relying on this dog to help you?" With a flick of his leg, Bailey was sent rolling to the side.

Emma watched, thinking to herself that once Bailey grew a bit bigger, he wouldn’t just tear through Damian’s custom suits but would be immovable by kicks.

"I’ll sell you tomorrow!" Damian yelled at Bailey, intentionally provoking him.

"You only dare to take it out on a dog."

"Yes, and there’s a little female dog here too," Damian said seriously before turning to leave.

Left alone, Emma exclaimed, "You’re calling me a little dog!" as she realized what he said and turned to confront him.

"That’s right, Emma Hart. You’d better deal with Bailey quickly, or I’ll take care of it myself."

His cold voice echoed through the spacious living room. Damian Sterling was utterly heartless, showing no affection for animals.

Emma stared at Damian’s receding figure, sensing something amiss...

The following day, Emma Hart, with a heavy heart, gathered all of Bailey’s belongings.

The new owner, who seemed genuinely fond of Bailey, was already waiting outside, ready to move house today.

Unaware of Emma’s intentions to give him away, Bailey affectionately nuzzled her hand, leaving Emma filled with a sense of loss.

Understanding the domino effect her actions might trigger, especially concerning Damian Sterling, Emma proceeded with caution.

A single misstep that upset Damian could lead to unforeseen consequences.

Handing Bailey over, Emma’s eyes lingered on him, her heart aching with worry as she entrusted him to the new owner, "Please take good care of Bailey. I truly love him. If it weren’t for... never mind, just please ensure he’s well cared for. Here are his favorite toys and the canned food he likes."

The new owner, taking the items from Emma, reassured her, "Don’t worry, I’ll take great care of him. We should get going, it’s getting late."

Eager to take Bailey away, perhaps fearing Emma’s potential change of heart over such a valuable dog, the girl turned to leave.

It was only then that Bailey realized what was happening, jumping up from his cage, barking anxiously, and looking back at Emma.

Tears filled Emma’s eyes, rendering her powerless. She raised her hand but let it fall back down, lacking even the courage to say goodbye.

"Mrs. Harris, please close the door," Emma choked out.

Mrs. Harris hurriedly shut the door, understanding that Emma didn’t want to watch Bailey leave, fearing it would deepen her sorrow.

Once back in her room, Emma collapsed on the sofa, sobbing.

Mrs. Harris watched, heartbroken, remembering how just a few days ago, Emma was drowning in sorrow. Bailey’s arrival had been the only thing to lift her spirits, and now, with Bailey gone, Mrs. Harris worried whether Emma would sink back into despair.

That evening, when Damian Sterling returned, Mrs. Harris looked upstairs worriedly.

"Mr. Sterling, Miss Emma hasn’t eaten anything since she sent Bailey away this morning."

Damian paused, asking carefully, "She sent Bailey away?"

Mrs. Harris nodded, confirming the news.

This woman, who always seemed to oppose him, who had sworn to defend her position, had personally sent Bailey away?

"Do you need me to go upstairs and call Miss Emma?"

Damian gestured dismissively, not bothering to remove his coat, and strode directly upstairs.

The door was unlocked, allowing Damian Sterling to walk in directly.

"Not locking the door?" he inquired with interest, his gaze landing on Emma Hart’s listless face.

It was evident that she was again letting that little dog take a toll on her health, something he had never seen her do for him.

"What’s the point of locking it?" she responded indifferently.

Damian chuckled coldly, "Glad you understand."

Emma turned away, clearly not in the mood to entertain Damian.

"Are you planning to starve yourself again?" he asked, his tone more accusatory than concerned.

"No, I’m just not in the mood."

"Why is that?" he probed.

Did he really feel entitled to control her moods as well? Emma thought, frustrated.

Turning to face him, she saw Damian had approached her.

With a cold tone, she warned, "Mr. Sterling, I touched Bailey today and forgot to wash my hands. Oh, and I might still carry Bailey’s scent. You’d better stay away from me."

Damian listened to her defiant tone, suspecting she was still harboring resentment towards him over Bailey. "You like that dog so much?"

"What do you think?" Emma felt uncomfortable just thinking about Bailey.

"Let’s make a deal then."

"What kind of deal?" She suspected he was up to something.

"You agree to a condition, and I’ll let you keep Bailey."

Emma sat up in shock, a brief moment of joy crossing her face before it clouded over again, "You never keep your word."

"Always?" Wasn’t it just this once because of his allergy that he didn’t allow Bailey?

Frustrated but determined, Damian continued, "Forget the rest. Just tell me if you agree or not."

Emma stared at his serious face, unsure whether to believe him. "What’s the condition?"

"I haven’t decided yet," Damian mused. "Just agree, and I’ll have the dog you sent away brought back."

She knew he must be scheming something with his condition, unpredictable as it might be.

But the thought of Bailey made Emma reluctantly agree. "Fine, I agree!"

Even if Damian didn’t resort to such tactics, if he wanted something done, it would inevitably happen. A condition for a condition seemed fair to her.

"But... I’ve already agreed to give Bailey to someone else. What should I do?" Emma didn’t want to act in bad faith like Damian.
