Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 86: Bailey

Chapter 86: Bailey

This Labrador appeared significantly larger than its peers, acting as if it hadn’t seen humans for a long while, showing an exceptional "fondness" towards Damien Sterling.

Emma Hart found immense joy in watching Damien dodge the overly affectionate Labrador, a side of him she had never seen before, leaving her almost unable to stand straight from laughter.

"Emma Hart...you...get rid of it now!" With no one else around, Damien had no choice but to seek Emma’s help.

Emma tried to hold back her laughter, pressing her lips tightly together, yet she couldn’t contain her amusement.

"Emma Hart! Do you have a death wish?"

Emma simply rolled her eyes at Damien. Was this his way of asking for help?

Really, she didn’t want to bother.

"Emma Hart..." The man’s patience had worn thin, as if he was ready to leap up and confront her directly.

"Alright, alright," Emma relented under Damien’s threatening gaze.

She approached the Labrador and casually called out, "Bailey, come here."

The dog, which had been lavishing Damien with unwanted affection, immediately turned and ran towards her upon hearing her voice, then affectionately burrowed into her embrace.

Despite their first meeting, the Labrador seemed to instantly recognize Emma as its owner, nuzzling against her hand.

"Good, good baby."

Only then did Damien stand up, straightening his suit and adjusting his tie as if he had been freed from a burden.

However, his face still showed traces of embarrassment. "This dog can’t stay!"

What? How could he suddenly not tolerate her Bailey just as it arrived?

"You can’t do this!"

"And why can’t I?" Damien glanced at the visibly upset Emma and continued, "But if you want to keep it, that’s possible."

"What’s the condition?" Emma was already familiar with Damien’s tactics.

"Beg me!" Damien’s words were succinct, valuing every word.

Emma paused, beg him? How was she supposed to do that?

"What? You can’t?"

"Please," Emma said, her tone cold.

"That’s it?" Damien questioned, "Emma Hart, are you sure you’re begging? Are you even a woman?"

What woman doesn’t know how to sweet-talk a man?

"Please," Emma Hart thought of Bailey and reluctantly softened her voice, making it a bit more tender, yet it still wasn’t enough for Damien Sterling, who looked at her askance, "That’s it?"

Clearly, he was not satisfied.

Cursing internally at Damien’s audacity, Emma decided to endure it for Bailey’s sake. Wasn’t it just a matter of saying a few words?

She stepped forward, extending her hand awkwardly to touch the hem of Damien’s clothing.

Lowering her gaze, her dense, long eyelashes shadowed her eyes, and her lips pursed slightly, forming a pitiful plea, "Please, let me keep Bailey..."

Her voice was disarmingly sincere, not at all contrived, a true plea from the heart reflecting her aversion to loneliness and her desire for companionship.

Damien Sterling, observing her demure and soft demeanor, knew no man could resist such appeal.

Why resist when one could enjoy such tender moments without the usual defenses?

A smug smile played on Damien’s lips, "You barely made it."

After that, Emma quickly withdrew her hand from him; she had no intention of continuing to beg or maintain such a posture in front of him.

Seeing Damien’s smug look, Emma found him insufferable yet couldn’t help but remember the CEO’s comical struggle with the dog.

This "beautiful" scene made her want to burst into laughter again.

"Emma Hart, I warn you, laugh again and you’ll see what happens," Damien threatened with a dark gaze.

Emma felt the menacing vibe in his eyes, knowing well what his threats entailed.

Despicable man, without a doubt.

Emma shut her mouth, her face immediately losing its smile, choosing instead to laugh secretly behind his back.

Noticing the disappearance of her smile, Damien suddenly regretted his words.

Why had he deprived her of that long-missed laughter? He hadn’t seen Emma so genuinely happy in a long time, had he?

But then he remembered her laughter was at his expense, deciding it was better she didn’t laugh after all.

Emma crouched down, playfully calling out to the Labrador, "Bailey, Bailey..."

Damien cleared his throat, a flash of fear in his eyes at the sight of Bailey.

He wasn’t afraid of dogs, but the memory of the Labrador’s eager licks made him visibly disgusted.

"I’ll be sending this dog away this afternoon," the man abruptly announced.

"Why?" Emma Hart immediately showed strong opposition.

It had taken her a while to grow so fond of a dog, especially considering she had a strong aversion to them as a child.

Seeing Emma’s passionate objection, Damien Sterling challenged, "Then give me one reason to keep it."

"I... I’ve already named it!" Emma stated proudly, as if naming the dog was a sufficiently compelling reason.

"What name?"

"Bailey. Didn’t you hear me earlier?" Emma’s tone softened, clearly losing confidence. If Damien truly disliked the dog, there was little she could do.

"This dog has a pure lineage. Its previous owner called it John. What kind of name is Bailey?" Damien’s possessions often bore a touch of nobility, it seemed even the dog needed an air of sophistication.

But to Emma, it was merely a beloved dog, regardless of its breed or lineage; she felt a special connection to it.

"But look how much it likes the name I gave it."

"What’s so special about your name?" Damien inquired.

Emma pouted, puzzled. "Special? Does it need to be? I can’t just call it little Lab or little Bud, can I? Bailey seemed nice," she mused, reaching out to the Labrador, lost in the name she had chosen.

"Bailey, Bailey, you like the name, don’t you?"

Such a name made Damien think of a woman stepping out of a Maserati, clad in Chanel, only to be called out by a name as mundane as "Bobby Sue."

But he let it be; it was just a name, after all. Compared to the smile that spread across Emma’s face, the name was trivial.

"What does the dog eat?" Emma suddenly found herself with something to do, sparking a new question.

Thus, Damien was effortlessly diverted by Emma’s change of subject.

However, he had no intention of prolonging the argument with Emma. After all, the dog was brought here by his friend for a very clear purpose.
