Chapter 470: Forced to Leave the Country
Emma Hart first appeared surprised, but her expression quickly returned to a calm demeanor. Damien Sterling looked at Emma Hart with confusion and couldn’t help but ask, "Have we met before?"
Emma Hart’s lips curled into a cold smile. "Mr. Sterling, you really are forgetful. But your way of flirting is a bit too cliché. If I remember correctly, you were out shopping with your wife just a few days ago."
When Damien Sterling heard Emma Hart emphasize the words "your wife," he instinctively wanted to clarify, "I’m not with her..." But then he suddenly remembered that he had amnesia.
Damien Sterling felt a bit frustrated. He truly couldn’t remember where those two children had gone. Somehow, he had a feeling that Emma Hart might know. "Do you know I have two children?"
Emma Hart was surprised that Damien Sterling still remembered the two children, but she maintained her composure and replied, "Sorry, sir, whether you have children or not is something you should ask your wife at home."
Damien Sterling felt that Emma Hart harbored some inexplicable hostility towards him. He frowned and asked, "Miss, do you have some kind of misunderstanding about me? I can’t shake the feeling that you’re antagonistic towards me."
Emma Hart looked at Damien Sterling with a confused expression, and her heart softened for a moment. She sighed and said, "It’s nothing. I’m sorry, I forgot you have amnesia. I have something to do, so I’ll be going now."
Damien Sterling, however, was even more puzzled. "I don’t think I mentioned that I have amnesia. How did you know?"
Emma Hart was startled, realizing she had slipped up. She quickly covered it up by saying, "I work at the hospital. You seemed confused and were trying to get information out of me, so I guessed you might be missing some memories."
Though Damien Sterling’s doubts weren’t completely dispelled, he had no choice but to let it go, as he had no evidence to prove she was lying—except for his intuition.
As Damien Sterling watched Emma Hart’s retreating figure, he felt as if something in his mind was trying to surface, but he still couldn’t remember anything.
After rounding the corner, Emma Hart started trembling violently. Facing Damien Sterling, she had almost been discovered. She couldn’t bear to think what would happen if he found out—would the children be taken away?
Emma Hart dug her nails into her skin, but the pain couldn’t suppress the fear in her heart. She couldn’t understand how Mr. Sterling Senior had allowed Damien Sterling to come here.
Damien Sterling looked around at the familiar surroundings, feeling a greater sense of belonging here than at the old mansion. When the driver found him, Damien Sterling was still lingering at the gate of Emma Hart’s yard.
The driver gasped. How did they end up here? If the old man found out, he might skin him alive. The old man seemed to have a deep-seated aversion to the young master recalling past events, and no one dared to provoke this bad luck.
The driver regretted not following the young master more closely earlier. Now that they were here, he could only hope the old man wouldn’t find out.
Damien Sterling noticed the driver and, thinking about the children, acted nonchalant. "The scenery here is nice, with flowers inside. I’ll buy the place later."
The driver quickly nodded, relieved that Damien didn’t seem to remember anything. "Young master, it’s time to go back. The old man asked me to inform you that dinner is ready. Let’s get you home soon."
Damien Sterling didn’t object, nodding as he spoke tiredly, "Indeed, it feels like I’m getting old. My body can’t keep up. Let’s go back; I’m exhausted after walking around all day."
Emma Hart sat in the corner for a long time before slowly getting up. She needed to pick up the two children now—they were her only source of strength.
When Emma Hart arrived at the school, it was just as classes were ending. She waited for a long time but didn’t see her children. Growing concerned, she approached the entrance and saw a teacher. She asked, "Excuse me, why haven’t my children come out yet?"
The teacher looked at Emma Hart and said, "Weren’t the children taken abroad for school? The transfer paperwork was all handled already. As their mother, you really should be more involved in their affairs—it was the housekeeper who managed everything."
Upon hearing this, Emma Hart felt her mind go completely blank. Her children had been sent away, and she hadn’t even known. Suddenly, she grabbed the teacher’s hand in a panic, "Do you know what day they left? Or which school they were sent to?"
The teacher shook her head, "I’m sorry, I don’t know the details. They left a few days ago, on the same day as their flight. But if you don’t mind me asking, are you two divorced?"
Emma Hart forced a bitter smile, "Thank you, teacher." Then she turned and left.
The driver, upon returning, reported everything in detail to Mr. Sterling Senior. Mr. Sterling Senior stood with his hands behind his back, deep in thought.
When Riley Turner entered the room and saw Mr. Sterling Senior standing there, he couldn’t discern the old man’s expression. Unsure of what was going on, he asked, "Grandfather?"
Mr. Sterling Senior turned at the sound of Riley’s voice. "Riley, we need to send Emma Hart away. Do you think she’ll agree to leave?"
Riley Turner looked at his grandfather in disbelief. Since when had his grandfather become so ruthless, willing to do anything to achieve his goals? Feeling uneasy, Riley replied dismissively, "Do whatever you think is best."
Mr. Sterling Senior nodded. He couldn’t allow Emma Hart, a ticking time bomb, to remain. He decided to send her to Country A to take care of the two children. After all, she was their biological mother, which made her more reliable than any nanny.
Once he had made up his mind, Mr. Sterling Senior, known for his decisive actions, wasted no time. He immediately ordered his subordinates to handle the matter without delay.
Since returning home, Damien Sterling had locked himself in his room, with no one knowing what he was doing. Riley Turner had knocked on his door several times but received no response, so he gave up.
Emma Hart walked down the street, heartbroken, lamenting how ruthless the old man had been. Suddenly, she received a phone call, "Is this Miss Emma? I can arrange for you to reunite with your children abroad, but you must promise never to return."
Hearing about her children made Emma Hart waver. But knowing she might never have the chance to return made her hesitate, as she still hoped to see Damien Sterling again.
Emma Hart knew in her heart that Mr. Sterling Senior must have heard something and was now using this despicable tactic to force her out of Damien Sterling’s life for good. Yet, she had to admit, the old man was shrewd. For the sake of her children, she would have to give in.
