Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 465: Sensitivity

Chapter 465: Sensitivity

Matthew Taylor quickly arrived at the entrance of Emma Hart’s building. The door was left open, as Riley Turner had forgotten to close it when she left, perhaps intentionally.

Upon entering, he saw Emma Hart curled up in the living room. A bandage was on her forehead, with faint traces of blood seeping through, causing a deep ache in Matthew’s heart.

Emma Hart looked utterly disheveled, her face streaked with dried tears and blood, tangled in her hair, adding to her pitiful state.

A cold gleam flashed in Matthew Taylor’s eyes—Riley Turner had tormented Emma Hart to this extent!

He walked over quietly, carefully kneeling in front of Emma.

In a gentle voice, he called out, "Emma, how are you? Please don’t scare me." His voice was soft, as he feared startling her. Matthew was truly pained to see the woman he loved in such a state.

Matthew Taylor didn’t know if Damien Sterling was responsible for this injury, but if he was, Matthew wouldn’t let him off easily. How could a man hit a woman hard enough to draw blood, especially when that woman was his wife?

Seeing Matthew Taylor arrive, Harriet felt a sense of relief. Although her young master didn’t like Mr. Taylor much, Mrs. Hart usually had a good relationship with him, and at least he could try to console her.

Harriet, who initially didn’t know what had happened, had pieced together the situation after Riley Turner’s visit. She was surprised to learn that the usually polite Miss Turner had turned out to be a homewrecker—a formidable one at that.

Now that she understood, Harriet felt even more sympathy for Mrs. Hart. Although Mr. Sterling Senior didn’t like Mrs. Hart, he had never treated her so harshly when the young master was around. But now, taking advantage of the young master’s amnesia, they had followed Miss Turner’s lead and driven Mrs. Hart out of the house. What would happen to the two children left behind? It was truly tragic, and Mrs. Hart was too distraught to handle it.

Harriet had been with Mrs. Hart for a long time and knew that despite her modest background, she was a kind and gentle person who treated others well and never made things difficult for the servants.

Seeing Mr. Taylor arrive, Harriet felt reassured. Mrs. Hart hadn’t eaten much since the night before, barely taking in any water. Harriet approached and said, "Mr. Taylor, please try to talk to Mrs. Hart. She needs to find a way to move on."

Matthew Taylor nodded, understanding Emma Hart’s nature. If she hadn’t developed feelings for Damien Sterling, she wouldn’t be this upset. She even had two children with him. Continuing like this was no solution.

No matter what Matthew Taylor said, Emma Hart didn’t respond. Her eyes were vacant, devoid of focus, which made Matthew increasingly worried. Desperate, he said, "Emma, you need to pull yourself together. You have two children—what will happen to them if you collapse?"

The mention of her children finally elicited a reaction from Emma Hart. She suddenly remembered that she hadn’t cared for her children in a long time. They were at the Gu family’s home because Damien Sterling had sent them away, believing they disrupted their relationship.

Thinking of this, tears welled up in Emma’s eyes again. Now she had lost her children and Damien Sterling. She was left with nothing, clinging to the house and desperately holding onto her wedding ring.

Emma Hart couldn’t even explain why she was doing this. Was it to spite Riley Turner or a futile hope that Damien Sterling might remember something through the ring?

Seeing that Emma’s eyes were finally showing some movement, Matthew knew his words had reached her. He sighed with relief and continued, "Emma, get up and freshen up. Let me take you out to eat. You need to eat something to have the strength to figure things out."

Emma Hart finally focused on Matthew Taylor, giving him a bitter smile. "What’s there to figure out? I don’t want to eat anything. Thank you, but you should go. I’ll be fine."

Hearing the polite and distant tone in Emma’s voice, Matthew Taylor couldn’t help but frown. "Emma, are you mad at me? Do you think I did this on purpose? I only happened to see you about to do something drastic and then worried about what Damien Sterling might do to you."

Emma Hart was truly not in the mood. "Please, Matthew Taylor, just go home. I’m really fine. I’m just tired and want to rest. I prefer being alone, and you don’t need to worry—I won’t do anything drastic again."

Seeing that he couldn’t persuade her, Matthew Taylor felt a bit helpless. He finally said, "Alright, but at least get up and eat something. I’ll leave after I see you finish your meal. Harriet is really worried about you; you haven’t eaten or drunk anything all day."

Emma caught the hint in Matthew’s words. It was true—Harriet had been taking care of her for a long time, reheating the food over and over, all dishes she liked. Emma couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty.

She gave a weak, apologetic smile. Her pale face showed the toll of not eating for days, and she realized she had been neglecting Harriet, acting too selfishly.

With effort, Emma Hart forced herself to sit up, feeling weak all over. She looked at Matthew Taylor and said sincerely, "Thank you, really."

Matthew could see the seriousness in Emma’s eyes and nodded, accepting her thanks. He knew that if he didn’t, Emma wouldn’t let it go.

Harriet, seeing that Matthew had managed to get Emma to eat, was relieved and happy. She quickly brought out the warm food, saying, "Ma’am, it’s all your favorites. Please, have a little, Bailey and I have been worrying about you."

Emma Hart gave a faint smile. "I’m sorry, Harriet, for making you worry." Harriet felt a surge of emotion seeing Emma respond. This child, as usual, was bearing everything on her own.

With that, Harriet shot Matthew a grateful look. If it weren’t for him, Mrs. Hart might have ended up in the hospital. She quickly set the table and prepared the meal for her.

Matthew and Emma both sat down, and once Harriet had served the food, she tactfully stepped away, leaving Matthew to talk to Emma.

Matthew Taylor remained silent, watching Emma eat, clearly deep in thought about how to broach the topic. After a long pause, he finally said, "Emma, could I see your ring?"

At the mention of the ring, Emma immediately looked up, her face filled with suspicion. Matthew Taylor gave a wry smile. "What, you don’t trust me either? I don’t mean anything by it. I just noticed how protective you are of it, so I was curious."

Emma wondered if she was being too sensitive, reacting at the mere mention of the ring. Based on what she knew of Matthew Taylor, it was unlikely he would conspire with anyone to steal it from her.

But even with these thoughts, she couldn’t let her guard down—what if Mr. Sterling Senior had made some kind of promise to him?
