Chapter 464: Let It Go

Emma Hart shook her head, looking painfully at Riley Turner. She knew Riley was trying to trick her into giving up her ring, but hearing about Damien Sterling’s condition still made her waver. Fortunately, she managed to keep her composure.

After a moment of internal struggle, she firmly shook her head. "I don’t need to know how he’s doing. I trust you all will take good care of him. As I’ve said before, if you want the ring, since Damien Sterling was the one who put it on my finger, he needs to be the one to take it off."

Riley Turner saw that Emma Hart was resolute, leaving no room for negotiation, and started to feel anxious. Getting this ring wasn’t easy, but she couldn’t involve the old man, as it would make her look incompetent.

Riley Turner’s face paled. She hadn’t realized before how stubborn Emma Hart could be, clinging to something that wasn’t hers. But given what she knew about Emma, she couldn’t use force either.

Riley Turner felt a mix of emotions, including guilt. She was also afraid that Emma Hart might simply give up. After all, Emma had two children, and knowing Mr. Sterling Senior as she did, she was certain he would never give up custody. The Sterling family children could never be left to wander outside.

Emma Hart noticed that Riley Turner had been silent for a long time. The feelings of suppressed grievance began to resurface, and her eyes started to well up again. She stubbornly turned her head away, not wanting Riley to see her vulnerability.

Seeing Emma Hart like this, Riley Turner also turned her head away, afraid of softening her stance.

Faced with Emma Hart’s demeanor, Riley Turner couldn’t bring herself to continue demanding the ring. Emma Hart already looked so defeated. Reluctantly, she compromised, "Emma, I know I’ve wronged you, but you know how Grandpa is. Could you at least let me see the ring?"

Emma Hart remained unmoved. Ever since Riley Turner, together with Mr. Sterling Senior, had forced her out of that hospital room, she no longer considered Riley her friend.

Emma Hart felt a deep sense of sadness. For the first time, she thought she had a friend she could talk to in this strange and wealthy world, only to realize she had foolishly believed in a friendship that didn’t exist.

Riley Turner still wanted to persuade Emma Hart, despite the current estrangement, "Emma, don’t be like this. You’re not suited for this environment. You could find a good man and enjoy a simple, peaceful life."

Emma Hart coldly looked at Riley Turner, finally seeing through her sanctimonious facade. In a weak voice, she called out, "Harriet, show her out. And don’t ever let this woman into my home again."

Harriet, flustered, hurried over and saw the two women facing off. She couldn’t understand how things had suddenly turned sour between them—they used to be on good terms.

Harriet stood there, uncertain about what to do, until Emma Hart immediately added, "Harriet, didn’t you hear me? Or are you eager to serve a new master?"

Hearing the resolve in Emma Hart’s tone, Harriet could only sigh and say, "Ms. Turner, please leave. Come back another time. Mrs. Hart hasn’t been in a good mood since last night, and you saw she hurt herself. Please be understanding."

Riley Turner understood what had happened but was surprised that Emma Hart hadn’t told Harriet about last night. She glanced at Emma Hart one last time before leaving, saying, "Forget about the ring, Emma. Try to let things go."

Emma Hart coldly watched Riley Turner leave. Once she confirmed Riley had exited through the front door, she collapsed onto the couch, tears streaming down her cheeks. It had been truly exhausting, but she knew she had to stay strong, at least for the sake of her children.

Harriet sighed internally and tried to console her, "Ma’am, why go through all this? If she wants the ring, just give it to her. The truth will come out eventually, and Mr. Sterling will remember someday. Why make things harder for yourself?"

Emma Hart shook her head, the bitterness in her heart known only to herself. If it hadn’t been for her, Damien Sterling wouldn’t have gone street racing or even left the hospital, and none of this would have happened.

After stepping outside, Riley Turner felt dejected. Without the ring, she couldn’t fulfill her morning promise, which meant Damien Sterling would start to suspect her, and then her grandfather would have to step in. If that happened, Emma Hart would be even more devastated.

Riley Turner frowned. She had already caused Emma Hart so much pain, and Emma’s resistance to her was intense. Still, Riley wanted to minimize the harm as much as possible, even if Emma couldn’t understand her intentions.

Riley pulled out her phone and suddenly thought of someone who might be able to get the ring from Emma. She scrolled down her contacts, found the name, hesitated for a moment, and then made the call.

After several rings, the call was finally answered. "I want to make a deal with you. All I need is the ring from Emma Hart’s hand, and you can take care of Emma."

A deep voice on the other end chuckled, "Miss Turner, what makes you think I’d make this deal with you? From a business standpoint, this transaction offers me no benefit."

Riley Turner smiled slightly, "Think it over. I believe you’ll give me a satisfactory answer. Damien Sterling has amnesia, and Grandpa isn’t very accepting of Emma Hart. You need an opportunity, don’t you?"

Matthew Taylor couldn’t help but be tempted. The only reason he hadn’t won Emma Hart’s heart yet was Damien Sterling’s interference. Now that Damien had amnesia, it was the perfect opportunity. However, he replied, "But if Damien Sterling has amnesia, I can get close to Emma without any deal. The biggest winner in this transaction is you, Miss Turner."

Riley Turner smiled, half-threatening, "You’re mistaken. Damien Sterling isn’t that important to me. I could just as easily tell him the truth, and then you’d have no chance."

A cold glint flashed in Matthew Taylor’s eyes, but he eventually agreed, "Alright then, a pleasure doing business with you."

Riley Turner smiled as she ended the call. She knew Matthew Taylor would agree because his feelings for Emma Hart were much deeper than she had anticipated. Otherwise, Damien Sterling wouldn’t have been so furious.

A man’s instinct toward his rival is sharp, which is why Damien had such animosity toward Matthew Taylor.

Satisfied, Riley Turner went shopping. Everything was falling into place perfectly. After things settled down, she’d stock up on essentials, as she’d be spending some time at the hospital with Damien Sterling. Now, it was just a matter of waiting for Matthew Taylor to deliver the good news.

True to Riley Turner’s expectations, as soon as Matthew Taylor hung up, he immediately called Emma Hart. Emma, lying on the couch, let the phone ring without answering.

After several unsuccessful attempts, Matthew Taylor decided to go to Emma’s house in person.
