Chapter 449: Unspeakable, Unclear
Emma Hart’s voice reverberated throughout the entire hospital room, leaving both Grandma Hart and Max stunned. She had never spoken to them so harshly before.
Recently, her relationship with Damien Sterling had been extremely tumultuous. After hearing what her grandmother said today, it was already commendable that he managed to refrain from hitting anyone. Constantly holding back made everyone think he was just a pushover.
Right after Emma Hart finished yelling, she turned and left the room.
There were no bodyguards outside; she had come alone by taxi to the seaside. This place was close to Green Mountain Retreat, but ever since Brianna Baker left, no one had lived there, and Ryan Garcia only returned occasionally.
The seaside air was still a bit salty, and the cool breeze was piercing. If it weren’t for the light jacket she was wearing, she might have caught a cold by now. She stood on the beach, gazing into the distance, wondering about the meaning of life. She didn’t know.
Maybe if she buried her tired body deep in the sea, all her troubles would disappear, and her heart would become more open.
With these thoughts, Emma Hart unconsciously took off her high heels, stepping barefoot onto the soft sand. Step by step, she moved closer to the sound of the waves, closer to the water. Her short skirt fluttered slightly in the sea breeze, brushing against her as her hair, dampened by tears, flew wildly.
She wasn’t sure if it was because of the late hour and the cold sea air irritating her eyes and nose, or for some other reason, but her eyes and nose were completely red, and snot dripped from her nostrils. Yet, she didn’t mind at all and continued walking alone.
Suddenly, a pair of strong arms grabbed Emma Hart’s slender arm.
"Emma Hart? What are you doing?" Emma Hart turned her head in surprise to see the last person she wanted to encounter: Matthew Taylor.
"Mr. Taylor, what are you doing here?" Emma Hart asked weakly, her voice hollow and devoid of emotion, as if half of her soul had already sunk into the sea.
"I should be asking you that. What’s gotten into you?" Matthew Taylor’s voice trembled. He had been longing for her day and night and never expected to meet her in such an unexpected place and manner.
As he spoke, Matthew Taylor began to pull Emma Hart back towards the shore.
"Are you trying to die?" Matthew Taylor scolded Emma Hart. He immediately took off his suit jacket and draped it over her, using a tissue to wipe the seawater from her face and legs.
Emma Hart remained like a block of wood throughout the entire process, standing there motionless. Matthew Taylor held her as they walked towards the car. In his arms, Emma Hart appeared so small and fragile, like a little rabbit that could be captured at any moment.
She continued crying like a rain-drenched flower, and Matthew Taylor couldn’t understand what was happening. He had silently vowed that if Emma Hart was unhappy with Damien Sterling, he would take her away.
By the time they left the beach, a black Bugatti Veyron was parked next to Matthew Taylor’s Rolls-Royce. Damien Sterling stood there, his eyes bloodshot, glaring furiously at Emma Hart and Matthew Taylor. With his long legs, he quickly strode over, forcefully pulling her away, causing Matthew Taylor’s jacket to fall to the ground. Damien Sterling growled, "Come home with me."
"Ah!" Emma Hart exclaimed. She lost her balance and nearly fell to the ground.
Matthew Taylor hurriedly stepped forward to support Emma Hart and began a battle of tug-of-war with Damien Sterling. "Mr. Sterling, please be more civilized," Matthew Taylor said as he held onto Emma Hart. How could Damien Sterling be so insensitive?
"Thanks for your concern, Mr. Taylor," Damien Sterling replied. With that, he forcefully pulled Emma Hart into his car, locked the door, and drove away.
Matthew Taylor stood alone in the sea breeze, lost in thought. Frustrated, he raked his hands through his hair before driving away from the beach.
Meanwhile, the black Bugatti Veyron sped down the highway. This was Damien Sterling’s first time racing this year. Emma Hart sat in the passenger seat, terrified by Damien Sterling’s aggressive driving. After fastening her seatbelt, she clung to the handle with her arm, which was red from Damien Sterling’s rough grip. With each sharp turn, Emma Hart felt as if her heart would leap out of her chest. "Please, can you slow down?" Emma Hart finally couldn’t take it anymore and pleaded with Damien Sterling.
However, Damien Sterling didn’t respond and continued racing down the highway. The car reached the Sterling family villa in just half an hour. As soon as they arrived in the garage, Damien Sterling hurried out and walked to the passenger side. Before Emma Hart could finish unbuckling her seatbelt, he yanked the car door open and dragged her out.
Emma Hart didn’t dare to speak; she feared saying something that would anger this tyrant. "Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling, you’re back?" Mrs. Harris rushed to greet them upon hearing the door.
But before she could finish, Damien Sterling was already dragging Emma Hart upstairs and locking her in the bedroom. "Bang, bang, bang," the door pounded. "Damien Sterling, what are you doing? Open the door!" Emma Hart protested, banging her fists against the door. But Damien Sterling ignored her cries and screams.
He quickly left the house, got back into his sports car, and sped down the highway again. In his life, he had only driven recklessly twice: once when he learned the true cause of his parents’ death and today.
His mind kept replaying the heartbreaking scene he had just witnessed. After Emma Hart left, Grandma Hart called Damien Sterling, informing him that Emma had left without her phone and she had no idea where she was headed.
Upon receiving the call, Damien Sterling immediately turned around and checked the surveillance footage near the hospital. Discovering that Emma was heading to the beach alone sent a chill down his spine; he had a terrible premonition that she was about to leave him.
He raced to the beach and found Matthew Taylor with Emma Hart, with Matthew’s coat draped over her shoulders. His mind nearly snapped; he wanted nothing more than to pin Matthew Taylor to the ground and beat him up.
