Chapter 429: Conflict

The weather in City A changed rapidly. It was sunny at noon, but by the afternoon, it had started to drizzle. After Riley Turner finished her job-seeking endeavors, Emma Hart returned to her position as Damian Sterling’s personal assistant.

During her free time, while Damian Sterling was taking a nap in his office, Emma Hart went down to the coffee shop on the first floor to buy some pastries.

As soon as she walked in, she saw three familiar figures: Logan Harrington, Amelia Davidson, and Ryan Garcia.

"Hey, Emma!" Amelia Davidson greeted her, joy evident in her eyes.

"Amelia and Logan Harrington, what a pleasant surprise!" Emma Hart exclaimed. She often came to buy things from Ryan Garcia’s coffee shop, but she hadn’t seen Amelia Davidson there since the grand reopening.

"Our bed and breakfast renovation is almost done, so we had some free time to grab a drink with this guy," Logan Harrington said. "Where’s Mr. Sterling?"

"He’s upstairs taking a nap. Ryan, I’ll have an Iced Mocha, not to go," Emma Hart said, sitting down next to Amelia Davidson.

"How about you? Have you kept in touch with your good friend?" Amelia Davidson asked, referring to Riley Turner.

"Yes, we sometimes chat on video calls. By the way, she just moved into the company’s single dormitory," Emma Hart said, then launched into a conversation about Riley Turner.

As they were chatting enthusiastically, Emma Hart’s phone suddenly beeped with a message notification. It was about a child abuse scandal at a well-known early education institution.

"Hold on a second," Emma Hart frowned and opened the message.

The news was about the early education institution her two beloved sons attended. The teacher involved was their homeroom teacher.

"This is bad, something serious has happened!" Emma Hart said, showing the phone to Amelia Davidson.

"Ingram... isn’t that where my two godsons go? What’s going on?" Amelia Davidson immediately recognized the school.

"Amelia, can you come with me to the school?" Emma Hart asked as she stood up.

"Of course, let’s go!" Amelia Davidson said, her expression serious. She grabbed her bag, said a few words to Logan Harrington, and left the coffee shop with Emma Hart.

They sped all the way to the early education institution. A large group of reporters had already gathered at the entrance.

"It looks like we can’t get in this way. I’ll take you through the back door," Amelia Davidson said, driving to the back entrance of the school.

Sometimes, Amelia had picked up the kids for Emma, so she knew the layout of the school. With a sharp turn, she reached the small back gate.

The security guard was napping, and they easily unlocked the door.

They sneaked past the guard and headed toward the teaching building.

"Sleeping so soundly, what kind of school is this? Kidnappers could walk right in," Amelia Davidson muttered as they reached the playground.

They made their way from the back garden to the teaching building without being noticed—or rather, without seeing anyone at all.

Outside the children’s classroom, Emma Hart and Amelia Davidson saw three kids happily building blocks. Two of them were the Sterling brothers, and a third teacher was with them.

"Gabriel, Joshua!" Emma Hart shouted as she rushed into the classroom and hugged the two children.

"Excuse me, who are you?" The teacher was startled to see a woman suddenly rushing in and hugging her students.

"We are family members of Gabriel and Joshua. We are here to take them home," Amelia Davidson said coldly. For schools that engage in child abuse, there was no need to show any courtesy.

The teacher was intimidated by Amelia Davidson’s presence. Trying to maintain her composure, she stood up, crossed her arms, and said, "I haven’t received any notification that the children are to be taken home early. If you claim to be their guardians, please provide proof. Otherwise, you cannot take them away."

Although the teacher’s request was reasonable, her arrogant attitude made Amelia Davidson unwilling to be polite.

Amelia was about to argue with the teacher, but Emma Hart stopped her. "Amelia, let’s just take the children and go."

"Oh, isn’t this Mrs. Sterling? Why have you come personally?" The principal, hearing the commotion, approached with a bright smile.

"Principal, we want to take the children home," Emma Hart said, holding the two boys.

"This isn’t quite according to protocol, Mrs. Sterling. Could you give me a reason?" the principal asked. The Sterling brothers were a great advertisement for his school, and he worried about the school’s reputation if something happened to them.

As Emma Hart pondered, she suddenly noticed bruises on the children’s arms. Tears welled up in her eyes.

Emma raised their arms, showing the bruises, and said angrily, "This is the reason! If you don’t let us leave now, don’t blame me for exposing this to the reporters."

The principal stood there, gritting his teeth. He was already stressed with the media crowding the school entrance. Letting them leave now would play right into the hands of the gossipers.

Initially, he thought he could just pay off the reporters to smooth things over, but he hadn’t anticipated Mrs. Sterling getting involved.

Emma Hart and Amelia Davidson picked up the children and headed toward the door, but the principal blocked their way. "No, no, you can’t leave now!"

"Why can’t we leave?" came a cold, low voice from behind the principal.

He turned around to see Damian Sterling standing there, his face ashen.

"Mr. Sterling!" The principal quickly turned and bowed to him.

"Mr. Sterling, look at what they did to the children!" Amelia Davidson said, raising the child’s arm to show the bruises.

The fury in Damian Sterling’s eyes was evident. He glared at the principal and suddenly grabbed her by the throat.

"You have some nerve," he said, his grip tightening with each word.

The principal’s face turned deathly pale, and the teacher standing nearby trembled in fear, pressing herself against the wall.

"No!" Emma Hart shouted, fearing that in his rage, Damian might do something drastic.

At Emma Hart’s voice, Damian released his grip. The principal collapsed onto the cold floor, her body limp.
